Sup homies -

Me and a friend and looking to put in work on red and wanted some quick advice.

We planned to roll mage/mage to just wreck shop on mobs, but I'm afraid I will get terribly bored of the mage. Would mage/ench be a better route or is this just a "play what you love" thing? He is dead set on playing a mage, so I will have to work around that.

Yes mage/mage is pointless. If he is dead set on mage, roll an enc for some cc abilities and so on. I would have him roll druid/cleric with that enc though. Enc and cleric so nice for pve.

snare kite w/ flame lick using druid / fire pet

Ports are goog if you are new, sow obvi

Yeah I would recommend mage/druid as well. I've played that combo a few times on other servers that allow 2 boxing and while not as effective as mage/cleric 39+, the out of combat utility of SoW and ports more than make up for it.

p.s. you can fear kite animals as well as do what Nirgon said

Our thought was that the pets would steal no xp since we were grouped and we could just use them to safely mow through mobs. Also, we could do this as a broke new char. I'd love to do cleric/ench, but he doesn't want to play either. I used to play a druid on live so that may be the route I take.

The mage/mage combo works like you think with the pet exp, but it becomes less effective as you level up. Sure, at level 12 or 16 you'll blow through packs of mobs but when you hit your 30s and 40s your down time will be significant.

Not really. With focus items you can burn through mobs at those levels.
50+ it slows down though.

Enc/Mage is a much better choice.

Ench + Cleric is dream team trust me. Shaman Monk is a perfect duo too. Mage Druid is good too but...why be a mage? Shaman + Any melee is great.

Really any duo is pretty good besides just 2 melee. For high level team ench and cleric and for normal team shaman monk. You can even do necro rogue and just fear kite. That combo is better for leveling than dominatimg tricky content tho.

Oh shoot didnt read full first post...

Yeah mage ench or mage druid or even mage shaman. All the mage will do is chain cast pets and the other adds some dps and mainly does CC. The ench mage combo is best.

tru but dont seem like they wanna be able to break camps in dungeons just wanna get fast levels duoing with broke ass starter robes. in that case go mage/mage.

ENC + SHM. Fuck ports, you buy them cause you'll be rich enough cruising though dungeons with this duo. Charm a pet, SHM buffs + baby haste from ENC. SHM roots the pets, ENC single pulls and root the mob on top of pet. Tash + malo + SHM slow mob. Keep both mobs rooted. Rince, repeat. Too much mana ? DD and DOT the mobs. Pixel and xp shower.

Against single mobs mage-mage will tear things up and be easy mode. Just lacks cc really. If well coordinated though a mage-mage duo doesn't need cc for 2-3 pulls since you can burn down quick with nukes if needed (key part well coordinated). Only thing annoying with pet duos is it always is a pain trying to get the mob to focus on the pet you want it to. For the most part just sit back and chain pet when needed.

2 mage maybe, mage/NEC prolly better then mage/enc because they can do a Lil of everything

used to root park multiple mobs with my earthie on blue all the time
ghetto cc

some creativity with pets and taunts and it's quite do-able

Why do people keep talking about PVE bs when my post clearly says that duo sucks fat balls in PVP...on a PVP server.

Because 2 mages jumping one dude is actually not that bad. Defensive they kinda suck but a couple of air pets and a couple of nukes coming outa no where is really powerful...and in addition to that it will he ezpz to level up as opposed to the medding up requirements of being a 2x wizzie duo or something else better for murder.

As far as humerox post goes...its doable but in dungeons its totally marginal and makes tasks that are pretty ez for any root casting class totally tricky as a mage. With 2 mages it would be okay.

things op was asking about:
1. good pve duo
2. doesnt need good items to get up and going

things op was not asking about that were discussed for 4 pages of thread
1. being not the best combo to farm cash camps
2. hypothetical pvp matchups
3. needing cc to break dungeons at level 50+
4. not being the 1000% most optimized possible duo in everquest

While I also agree with that, bein on red they really should consider the pvp element. This is another reason why I say mage and necro. A decent combo all around for pvp and pve

Also akalak is right. Necromancer can pull and do the cc a mage lacks.
