Orginially in Saecula Omnimodus Bellum (anyone remember them?) until they merged with Tides of Wrath. Neutral team was great! It was awesome how places like Runnyeye, North Karana, and the Gorge were always full of people since each faction had their own lands.

I was playing as Nizzarr, human enchanter. I was in Ruin until it collasped, probably about 6 month into the server. It was a lot of fun =)

The "30 vs 80" in crystal caverns against TDC,ToW,Darkenbane etc :P that was hilarious.

The skyshrine debacle with keke(guilds main tank) dieing inside there and newts corpse camping him for a week straight.

Getting our cleric epic 30 days into the server, that took a lot of commitment back then.

Hanging out with the goodies in everfrost/greater faydark, I wouldnt attack them.. but people like alawen would always attack me and I'd always end up owning like 6 of them at once.

The sullon zek message boards made that server even more hilarious. We had some good trolls back then!

I didn't actually fight you. You were a deep red con for me the entire time you played on the server. Kat and I were always run to Halas to fight Pumpkin or to Greater Faydark to try to drive that crazy necro (what was his name?) out of Crushbone, so we leveled even slower than most of the good team. It was excellent fun but I never did get to see end game on SZ.

@Allazar: sad day when SOB merged with TOW. Neutral team had so many awesome people and soooo many fucktards. The worst was the entire "leadership" of the team basically consisted of a bunch of ex-Darkenbane from Rallos whose entire notion of raiding up until that point was dying to Elder Wurms in Skyfire. So as soon as the team transitioned from ganking people while XPing to actually needing to raid to continue being "competitive" with Ruin, Hate etc (I use the term "competitive" loosely since we all know how those competitions went), the wheels started falling off the wagon.

For my part, when Milt came a calling offering me the enc to switch teams, I jumped ship in a hurry :p

Ahh nostalgia... what a crap pit of a server SZ was. And we all loved every minute of it :)

Totally remember you Nizzarr! You guys in ruin were NUTS! I was actually unemployed at the time SZ launched, so I played EQ all day and I still couldn't keep up with you guys. I simply was unable to clock that many hours in per day. You guys leveled so fast it was crazy.

Ah, many long long nights in SSRA and VT Korensky. I totally remember you, but I didn't know you'd come from the neut team! The best part of those message boards was Gayrage and "clearly a darkenbane victory".

Everytime Gayrage's guild would get owned, we'd post multiple screenshots of corpse piles. Then he'd post on the boards his version of events and how he had won somehow even though everyone on his side was dead with 5+ corpses. He'd always say "this was clearly a Darkenbane victory". That became a meme on the server meaning any epic failure spun as a victory. Kind of like Bush and "Mission Accomplished".

Ah, so many great memories.

bahaha, we barely held on, i remember the big fight in EJ for Sev, with myself Rahmza, and i think an enchanter hiding up on the cliff trying to scout and pick off people who got separated. Straega plays here as well now as a halfling rogue, Siffun.

Haha, yes frumpyfrank! There were a couple of neut clerics that pvped a lot, that was pretty cool.

I also remember Rahmza very well. There was a period in luclin where I would solo scouts in echo caverns, and I would keep running into Rahmza and this other ToW cleric. We would do some pvp pretty much every night for a month or so in that area, it was a lot of fun.

I also remember when I got my VT bracer (the one that dispells 4 buffs as a clicky). I would pvp in the grey and dispell people, and watch them drown. Haha so broken and so fun though :)

I'm pretty sure the neut team kept a list of who had VT bracers, because word got around quickly and once a VT bracer geared evil team guy would engage pvp, most people would just zone to avoid losing all their buffs :)

Lovey Carebear was my favorite PVP partner ever! He totally got the part where when you die and get camped, you don't freak out about your corpse, you hide in the zone and talk mad shit to the people camping you!

I thought SZ was such a dope server. I played VZ for 2 years as a purist and was so bummed that the server wasn't locked into the teams. When I found out about SZ, I made the switch and loved it. I appreciated the "no rules", but it was frustrated that no matter what time we set our raids for, Speedd??? would log on and train our raids. NO MATTER THE TIME. It was nuts, he was on call 24/7 and we couldnt do dick about it. My main reason for quitting when I did was the continued expansions. I couldn't keep up, we had so much left to do in the Planes and SOE kept shitting out expansions to appease the PvE servers.

I'm not playing this server yet, just looking into it. Any suggestions? Which classes are really needed?

Speedd was nuts wasn't he? He called himself the terrorist of SZ and he really was.

I think it will be hard for people who didn't play on SZ to understand the nightmare he was. I thought I was bad for disrupting a dozen or so cleric epics in Chardok with trains, but Speedd disrupted raids at any hour of the night. Truly a nightmare!

I was Klori Wood Elf Ranger in Northern Lights of Halas, Wolves of Legend, Bringers of Retribution, and Wolves of Retribution. I did not stay long enough for our alltime "large" guild, Divine Vigilance.

To be on good team was to be tiny in numbers and geographically disadvantaged in every way. Newts and team evil had a bit of ground, no lie there.

Lauranathalasa could hold her own. And Infecting, Infectis, Infector, etc.. What we had goin in Kunark. Can't forget Frosthound. I will not play another pvp again. To me Sullon Zek was really the only experience of a "pvp" bc of the team comradery

/salute Sect and what we had going for us- the alltime famous Fancy.

I played on Sullon Zek long long as an Ogre Shaman on evil team named Buddhathe Actionfigure. Was in no guild but rather a bunch of us RL friends and some others we knew that played there simply all had Actionfigure last names lol. Then one day a large grp of us ambushed a large grp of goodies crossing the invis bridge in The Deep to go after the named boss dude on other side and knocked em all in with GFlux (prenerf). To be on good team was to be tiny in numbers and geographically disadvantaged in every way. Newts and team evil had a bit of ground, no lie there.

Lauranathalasa could hold her own. And Infecting, Infectis, Infector, etc.. What we had goin in Kunark. Can't forget Frosthound. I will not play another pvp again. To me Sullon Zek was really the only experience of a "pvp" bc of the team comradery

I definitely considered it. But reading the forums it sounded like there is a low population. Also I think that having ffa pvp as opposed to teams leads to a few problems:

* OOR clerics healing your target. This (and the related problem of cross team healing on vt/tz) is the main reason I never played on rallos. You can't have people helping your target that you can't attack.

* No friends. The team makeup of SZ brings about very strong ties. I found that people on my team were (in general) much more helpful than people on blue servers. On SZ, you never knew when you might REALLY need someone. So it incentivised people to help each other, group together. On an FFA pvp server, people are incentivised to solo, because you never know when a random person might kill you.

I think the red99 server is a great idea, and I hope it does well. I don't think it's for me, even though I had a great time on SZ. For me, it would have to be a teams server that has no "immortal healing". That would give the environment an incentive to pve together (teams) as well as a good incentive to pvp (no immortal healers).

That's just my opinion of course.

Seriously fuck speedd. I thought I was terrified of* him when he only had Kirban. I swear he made it a point to manaburn me atleast twice a day in velks, and of course nobody would even see him.

Once he got Speedd, with all that crazy runspeed ghosting and the millions of ways to charmburn someone, I couldn't even camp fast enough before he'd find me and poop all over me. Fansy was annoying, but Speedd was a raid target.

Hell, sometimes he'd just melee/chant me down if he had the time.

Your opinion is very strong and has generally been 100% sublimated by anyone that has actually ever played on an EverQuest PvP server. Unfortunately, the developers of Red 99 did not share our experience. I'm sorry guys but that server is an utter failure, for so many reasons.

Won't say who I was, but I remember my group getting blasted by Kirban.

I remember being in Rathe Mts and meeting Kirban, maybe hte first time. He was killing giants. He had that skeelton illusion :)

I met him much much later in 2009-10 in the bazaar.

I would bump into SZ people on live and they alays were friendly. It was like we were all part of the hells angels or something. Every Sz looks after every other SZ.

I always wish I had kept screenshots from my early days in EQ (started in 99).

Myself stoic and straega came from VZ when SZ opened. I can't remember if they also had Vantis back then, a gnome cleric that they usually shared but was primarily Stoic's. I think after SZ had its death throes at PoP we took a hiatus then eventually came back to play on the Stromm server for a little while.

Straega had a gnome SK, Stoic was an enchanter again I think under Stoicism, or maybe he remade Vantis its a bit fuzzy with those toons. I toyed with a beastlord but never did much and we all were gone for good by the end of LDoN.

Before I rerolled kure to the good team, I had an iksar monk with the name Kure in Apathy.

I do miss that server. Pyrate Pete, Marathe, Speedd (Kirban), the Sams. All those guys made that server awesome.

I think it was mostly just the pure hatred all the teams had for each other. You don't just find that kind of nerd rage anywhere. It takes some really specific circumstances to create such a thing.

Ahh, Nalir! Good to see a familiar name from the past.

We did used to have some pretty crazy fights around CC/EW. That was definitely the hotbed of newt leveling for the 40s, as I recall. I knew that place like the back of my hand. I still remember the layout. I used to swim through the underwater tunnels to pop out and ambush people, then hide down there to heal up with my Fishbone earring if I got in trouble. I loved those hit and run kills where you would take out one group member and disappear before the others could mount an effective response.

And yeah, that was definitely a deadly PK crew when we would run together. I recall a few times the four of us cleaning the zone out and shutting it down until they had to call in the high level newt big guns to drive us out, haha. SZ was the best.

Everyone knows RZ was the bluebie Zek. Honestly I don't know much about the TZ/VZ scenes. But I don't see how they could have possibly been pvping more than the top guilds of the three hard coded teams.
When Zek did its trail run SZ was the clear winner...despite that the players all came from different teams. When TZ/VZ emulator opened up it was SZer Crazycloud that basically raped that server.
I don't really know what happened when the Zek merger went through...I was playing WOW. Which is what a lot of the top PvP players of all the Zeks were doing by then. But I'm sure the big names of the server owned there just like they always did...at least on an individual/small group basis.

So far just having a blast doing insane long quests which reward me with like 1 gold, getting killed by Holly Windstalker in Qeynos Hills, looking forward to once being able to fight and do corpse runs in Blackburrow and just loving how tough and unforgiving this game is even on a pve server.
