Is this possible? Any sleuths want to way in?

Can we make this happen as a community?

the question is not can we, but rather should we? is this too far beyond classic? has science gone too far?

It's a shame we don't have the classic boats, but from what I remember they're not easy to get hold of

Is there a different boat system on the server? I have never seen the boat in BB and usually have to beg for a port.

Both the boat from EFP and Timorous Deep/FV come to BBM.

I can confirm that the boat in BB does in fact exist. I rode it yesterday and although I didn't time it, It felt like it was exceptionally long. I kept thinking I must have missed it or something it was taking forever it felt like. I am not complaining though! By the time my lvl 1 made it to Freeport that in itself felt like a big giant accomplishment! especially considering I somehow lagged off the side of the boat and fell in the water and then had to swim to an island and wait for the boat to arrive again. :P

We need something like this

http://www.pyogenes.com/ffxi/timer/v2.html

for P99.

From our wiki:

NOTE: Veteran EverQuest players are not only likely to recall two boats, but Sister Isle being the first stop out of West Freeport. Though the second boat was not added until the Kunark era, the latter recollection is entirely correct: even though Antonica lies west of Faydwer, boats departing Butcherblock Mountains mysteriously traveled east to reach Freeport--the wrong direction. Project 1999 has corrected the direction of the boat so that it travels eastward to reach Faydwer from Antonica, and vice versa; this explains why Zach Reigh isle is the first stop out of Freeport, rather than Sister Isle as most remember.

Shouldn't be that hard. Just need to make a timer for each and sync it with boats. Will have to find a way to sync it back up on server resets and what not. I would be willing to host the site if someone set it up, depending on prices of course. I dunno anything about that.

I frequent the boats frequently.

Wasn't it possible at one point to cast Spirit of Wolf on boats/barges/canoes?

easiest solution is for folks to just park a toon (I suggest a nome) at each dock and stream live a video feed with a timer...incoming new guild <Coast Guard>.

I remember when Nalkin had his boat service in OOT back when the boats were broken. Maybe <Coast Guard> can commandeer the little boats and keep watch of the larger vessels and provide shuttle services between islands.

That would rock; zoning on a row boat & making it all the way across the ocean.

<Coast Guard> should be made up of bards so that they can quickly rescue travelers who fall off the boats and recover bodies from shark attacks.

You ought to be happy the boats work at all on here. On live they sucked ass. And it was only till the Devs did the Levitate trick did they work on here.

But I may be wrong but I also think they are too long zone to zone copared to live. But really who really remembers that far back other than Ele and Rogean lol.

It was never that short on live, at least not during classic.

I do kinda miss the original boat models, I wonder why they aren't usable here. At least the kunark and velious boats are right though :)

Only way to have a boat tracker would be to have a "mule" on the boat 24x7 hitting loc every so often - then post the log file data on a page.

You could slum it by having the community click a button or something on a page site when the boat shows at one dock or another. /shrug

Don't the boats have a regular schedule? It seems like once you know when one is arriving you could calculate all future boat stops, until the server comes down or something.

True, if someone calculated it exactly and recalibrated every day or so, that would work.
