View Full Version : Game Mechanics: Deepwater Barracuda no longer attacks mobs (on land)

Hello there,
Maybe this was by design, but I didn't see it in the patch notes .. and I didn't think this was an exploit so here goes.
For awhile I have been able to charm (druid - Call of Karana) the Deepwater barracuda and have him help me clear mobs around the lake (most notably to kill mobs trying to get the silly courier ring). I was gone awhile, and come back to the 3 patches. I patched up my system, and logged in. someone was camping the marauder so I thought I would have a go at the courier ring again. Charmed my pet, then went to go do my business. Found out quickly that the Barracuda would not attack any mob, even if the mob was attacking him. Charm broke, recharmed, and still no luck. I logged, recharmed, and no luck. Left that pet and got another deepwater barracuda, same thing.
Just wondering if this was by intended with the patches? (Dec 1,3,4).

It is intended that water npcs should no longer be able to leave the water, after the last patch.

Alright,
Well, water mobs still leave the water.
Thanks for confirming this was intended though
You guys rock -- even if the patch hurts!

Hm, apparently I didn't read into your issue enough.
Might be something going on with this, due to the underwater creature flags.

Charmed barracudas can leave the water, but won't attack anything. Uncharmed ones will lose all aggro the second you leave water or even surface for air, which can't be right.

Isn't that's how it's supposed to work? Breaking surface on underwater mobs was a mem wipe.

if that were the case wouldn't every underwater encounter be trivial because you memwipe the second you get air? anyways - the bloodgills along side them don't have any of these behavior or aggro problems and are also aquatic, so something's up there.

Bloodgills have legs though, makes sense they can come up on land.

some mobs can navigate land and water. a fish cannot.

shouldn't the druid epic version of it be able to follow and attack on water ?

The Tainted Barracuda that comes on land is part of the druid epic quest. If you kill the Tainted Barracuda he will spawn the Corrupted Barracuda. The Tainted Barracuda that spawns the corrupted Barracuda is the only that will come up on land.

_I think it was a way to tell if you had a real one or a fake one, just tag it an pull it up to land if it followed, just kill it and it would spawn the corrupted.

This is confirmed classic. I distinctly remember this tactic being utilized for the druid epic.
Now if only we could get classic projectile flight time / collision functioning. We could do the druid strategy where you stand behind Deep NPC as the Aqua goblins shoot arrows at you, Deep would get hit and immediately own the Aqua goblins.
I just submitted a thread about this - going to close it now that this one has gotten attention. So it sounds like deepwater barracuda's shouldn't come on land but the tainted one should, yes?

Sort of.
There are two Tainteds. Only the one that would spawn the corrupted would land walk. The fake one would reset back into the water. As mentioned with the quote posted previously.
So hypothetically the one tained that should land walk should also be charm-able and can attack other npc's on land? I guess it would be kind of rude to hold hostage the mob that spawns the corrupted for the druid epic quest.

Correct. Dunno why you're really needing a charmed pet in LoIO though. I used the corrupted for a Xenovorash fight once, that was neat.
You farming courier or something?
Bingo Daldaen! Courier is pretty relaxed camp if you can use a barracuda to kill the PH'ers.. I can maintain mana supply using my 56 root and ES vambs to kill the PH's but its a lot slower than sicking the cuda on them.
I'm actually farming it for plat at the moment. I already have a goblin gaz ring I bought by selling my lumi staff.
