Until the mob of angry city dwellers comes and loots the f outta it before you even ahve a chance, and then they move to your house and loot it.
#BugOUT not in a city. If you stay in a city when shit hits the fan your setting yourself up for failure.

man, how big is your bag?
If you live even remotely close to metropolitan areas you're already fucked, even more fucked if you underestimate the potential of mobilized militia comprised of local rural rednecks who have been planning on shit like this for decades and actually live life beyond the weekend warrior heroes sure to be coming out for the slaughter in droves when the apocalypse starts. One sentence.
If you really want a chance, at least at genetic survival, nut in your girl before the rape camps start up.

He afraid of getting PvP'd in RL now too!! See what red does to people.
Having an emergency kit for a disaster = reasonable.
Having a survival kit for your redneck (Zombie / Red Dawn / Nuclear war / Anarchy) apocalypse survival fantasy = 'Murica.
I should have started selling this gear online years ago

One persons crazy is another persons normal. My "emergency kit" definitely contains firearms / ammunition.
Look at what happened during hurricane Katrina when people were out of food / water / shelter.... they'll get it by any means necessary, sucks for them cause they wont be getting mine~

Yeah that distinction is not so much about what you pack, as it is about your mentality.
I wonder, out of all these people who packed thousands of dollars worth of guns and ammunition to shoot desperate people, who packed extra supplies to help the desperate?
Also in this situation the people who win wouldn't be those with the most guns/ammo, but the people with the most connections / biggest or most well-organized group. You won't be getting attacked by a bunch of soloists like you, it would be groups of extended family clans / small ad hoc social networks. Humans are an extremely gregarious, social race. The individualism that characterizes our high-tech society would break down along with everything else.
So really the best 'prepping' you could do would be to have a very healthy, wide, and close-knit social circle of people who are also 'prepared'.

Agreed for sure, but it definitely makes you less of a target when you're able to defend yourself vs the guy that cant.

Well, the people who stocked the food will be teaming up with the people who stocked up on guns and ammunition.

Seriously would be organizing the zerg to guarantee no contest. RL fungus covered tunics for all.

You can use the ones people use in their fish tanks if that helps for easy access

Yes, silly. What do you think looting is for?
(I have clearly read waayyy too many post-apocalyptic novels... They always end up raiding pharmacies.) :)

As much as I am optimistic that men in a post-apocalyptic America would remain civilized, there will always be a few "rapey" types to be wary of, so I'd like to introduce you to these anti-rape devices that really exist (http://cu.viralnova.com/anti-rape-devices/).
First, we have the anti-rape dress, for hiding in plain sight. ("Haha! I'm a vending machine -- nothing to rape here, move along!")
http://images.viralnova.com/000/040/036/anti-rape.jpg
Next we have these vomit-inducing hairy-leg tights, guaranteed to make any would-be rapist throw up in their mouths and run away in horror with a shriveled boner. ("C'mon baby, don't run away. You know you wanna meet "Blackbeard".)
http://images.viralnova.com/000/040/037/anti-rape2.jpg
This gruesome item is a female condom with teeth... Ouch... It can only be removed by a doctor once the offending organ is "engaged". (That would be an awkward hospital visit...)
http://images.viralnova.com/000/040/040/anti-rape5.jpg
Perhaps this one could be useful (and fun!) -- lingerie that can shock an attacker who tries to grab you. If you don't accidentally shock yourself first, that is... Unless you're into that.
http://images.viralnova.com/000/040/041/anti-rape6.jpg
That's just a few of the things from around the world that women are said to be using to thwart rapists. They're pretty much ridiculous, but good for a bit of a laugh.
Personally, my focus would be on weapons; they'd make much better anti-rape/anti-robbery devices. :D
My hypothetical bug-out bag would contain my gun & some extra ammo, a couple daggers (to wear strapped to my thighs like in the movies, of course -- LOL), trail mix, jerky, dried mangos, and my strawberry-flavored Carmex lip balm. Must have lip balm.
Would definitely bring my fishing gear. I'd be gtg.

Many require refridgeration and other special protections. Even the broad spectrum pill antibiotics would last what, a year? You've got bigger problems than a staph infection right now.

Not really. Those are just things I carry in my truck now for work in remote places, or after natural disasters. Good enough for a few days though I guess.

Those who are MORE likely to survive have this.
bug out bags lol
This is the mentality of someone who either plans to prey on others or is prepared to starve to death.
My plan A, the bug out plan: light weight high quality backpacking gear suited to withstand all conditions in the northwest mountaints around coos bay. With enough fuel for my wife's escape stored in the garage to make it.
Plan B the stay in put plan: 2 months supply of food\water hidden under the house. 12 gauge with 200 rounds. 3x .22 rifles with 2000 rounds. I know everyone in my neighborhood. Chances of me defending against the hoard is zero. It's all about who is the biggest bloodthirstiest warlord in the area. Beware Reno, going to be a slaughter if the power goes out.
But really, you only have to survive the first two months. 90% of people will die from violence, dysentery, or starvation in the first month and a half.
