View Full Version : Sleeper World Event

I realize this is going to make the hardcore raiders mad, because I can imagine when this beta goes live, first thing what will happen is the race to awaken the sleeper and claim that legacy between the raider guilds.

For the rest of us who want to experience the guardians and all of the things, pre-awakening, please make it so he doesn't awaken at least for a while? Maybe make them all respawn? I heard some of the best gear drops off those guys and once he's awake, nobody else can get them..

I like to relive things and try things I never got to do in live and I would like to experience this event.

Thanks :)

I believe Covered in Bees can do it

The Sleeper is pretty easy to awaken. The hardest warder is Ventani and he's much easier than AoW, Yelinak, or a bunch of stuff in NToV.

Ventani also drops some of the best gear in Sleeper's Tomb, so he'll probably be killed. What most guilds do is leave Nanzata up since it has the worst loot. The problem with Nanzata is that he's very easy and could be killed by most of the guilds on the server. So once a guild clears ST for loot and leaves with Nanzata up, there's the potential for pretty much any raid guild on the server to wake the Sleeper.

The only "defense" to this so-to-speak is controlling Sleeper's Tomb keys. Getting enough keys to get a raid force into Sleeper's Tomb will be more difficult than actually killing anything in there. In this manner it's similar to Veeshan's Peak, but since there are several raid mobs that drop keys every Class R or Class C guild will have complete access to ST within a few months if we keep the raid class system in Velious.

This shouldn't be a worry, because we're all about classic. Classic Kerafym had a regeneration issue, hence not killable.

So.. solved.

Except on live after he was spawned he was despawned and never came back. Not sure if thats what the crew plan to do here, but thats why it was such a big deal on live.

It's not about him being killable - waking him makes the warders stop spawning, which means some of the best loot in Velious goes away.

Hopefully that part won't happen on this server since there is no Luclin.

Doesn't waking the sleep introduce new quests as well? (I'm fuzzy here, but something having to do with turning in the key? are these quests classic?)

It's a shitty situation: wake him, miss out on loot. don't wake him, miss out on loot.

There were quests and new warders with different loot but pretty sure they weren't released during velious.

What are the new items on the loot table as well? Doesn't some other crap start dropping?

Either way, still a shitty situation

Original loot that stops dropping:

Primal Weapons (http://wiki.project1999.com/Primal_Velium_Weapons) (kinda, can still get them from The Progenitor and The Final Arbiter)
White Resistance Stone (http://wiki.project1999.com/White_Resistance_Stone)
Red Resistance Stone (http://wiki.project1999.com/Red_Resistance_Stone)
Blue Resistance Stone (http://wiki.project1999.com/Blue_Resistance_Stone)
Green Resistance Stone (http://wiki.project1999.com/Green_Resistance_Stone)
Dragon Scaled Mask (http://wiki.project1999.com/Dragon_Scaled_Mask)
Smolder (http://wiki.project1999.com/Smolder)
Staff of the elder Claws (http://wiki.project1999.com/Staff_of_the_Elder_Claws)
Mask of Tinkering (http://wiki.project1999.com/Mask_of_Tinkering)
Dainty Gloves (http://wiki.project1999.com/Dainty_Gloves)
Staff of the Morning Dew (http://wiki.project1999.com/Staff_of_the_Morning_Dew)
Writ of Dragonkind (http://wiki.project1999.com/Writ_of_Dragonkind)
Sceptre of Destruction (http://wiki.project1999.com/Sceptre_of_Destruction)
Clawed Guardian Bracer (http://wiki.project1999.com/Clawed_Guardian_Bracer)
Shield of the Clawed Guardian (http://wiki.project1999.com/Shield_of_the_Clawed_Guardian)
Shroud of Longevity (http://wiki.project1999.com/Shroud_of_Longevity)
Salindrite Dagger (http://wiki.project1999.com/Salindrite_Dagger)

The classes affected are: Warrior (2x Scepter of Destruction is BIS for aggro), Monk (Shroud of Longevity), and Rogue/Bard (Mask of Tinkering). Melees also for easy Primal weapon farm, but they're still obtainable after the Sleeper is awoken.

Do the Ancients immediately take the place of the Warders when The Sleeper is awoken? Because they still drop some pretty nice stuff. I think the Sleeper was up for awhile on my server so I'm not sure. All the comments on the loot on Allakhazam is from around the same time in 2002 so it makes me think that after the Warders are killed all you can do is turn in your key for the quest piece (which isn't bad, I consider the Essence Earring a BIS for Shamans).

Classic or no, the warders need to respawn. It basically screws the rest of the server when a singe guild dominates the spawn till they get their toys and then destroy the loot for the rest of the community. This will be a huge problem since there will never be another expansion to set things right.

considering one of the top guilds already ruined a sleeper on another locked prog server id say its worth talking about

ownrage

I propose sleepersa and sleepersb

Normal keying for original sleepers, then a zone in within sleepersa and additional quest implemented by devs to turn in their sleepersa keys for a sleepersb key.

Obviously sleepersb is itemized for post wakening loots/quests

Make the guild that progresses to sleepersb zone have a lore key that only gives them access to b zone.

Then if guild wants access to sleepersa, they can have alts do it...which is a pita anyways

NOT CLASSIC!!! But at least compromises on all this shit.

1) if ventani is easier than yelinek it's coded wrong Ventani should be harder than LY by quite a bit, even Hraashna should be very tough since there will not be any resist boost from aa's or AE songs

2) ancients aren't put in until mid Luclin maybe even later than that

3) all 3 golem bosses will continue to drop primal weapons after sleeper is woken, all the unique drops from the warders will be gone forever

Competitive guilds have said all along it's not about the loot, and waking the sleeper is the ultimate competitive achievement. For these reasons, there should be a race to wake the sleeper and ring that golden-egg-laying-goose's neck the moment Velious is released.

I haven't done Sleeper's Tomb here, just going by my own memory from live. Always had a lot more difficulty with stuff like Yelinak and Vyemm. ST dragons were mostly about devising strategies to minimize the AEs. Ventani was one of the more difficult encounters, but it wasn't some "ultimate achievement" to clear ST. It was more like a side prize for farming enough keys.

That said, Yelinak might need some tuning but we haven't been back to mess with it recently. When we were testing it, it didn't really have melee "rounds" it was more like a rapid fire uzi of melee spam.

AFAIK Gm's have said that waking the sleeper before anyone else has a chance to experience them and populate the world with their loot will be frowned upon... take that as you will.

I remember doing ST on live when velious came out i hated when they woke sleeper as the wardens despawned and where not put back until SoL. And while the golems may still drop primal weapons. As it currently stands *well used to* that the trash has a chance to drop them as well as the other bosses.

Bosses always have 1 primal weapon on the loot table, all trash has a chance to drop exquisite and higher

If this were to happen, would it have to be permanent? I thought devs could do anything they wanted on this server - including resetting him if some group of neckbeards tried to screw over the rest of us forevermore.

If this were to happen - why would it have to be forever? Couldn't Rogean+company just reset it after the fact, and smack the peepee of whatever guild(s) did it?

I think the main point that has the most relevance to me, and I would believe the vast majority of the server, is that once he is awoken, primal weapon drops slow to a trickle. A trickle that will likely be monopolized by the same people who woke him to begin with. If there was ever a definition of a dick move, this is it, in big bold red ten-foot high neon letters. Popping him, and attempting to take him down, could be a truely awesome event, and something that would make a great trophy for the case of the uber elites - as long as the horrendous downside could be corrected after the fact. Maybe make him fightable - but zone resets 24 hours later, and the guilds that awoke him are banned from ST for a couple weeks to prevent a repeat.

Awakening him, and screwing the server over forevermore, should (rightfully) destroy the guild/people involve in doing it. I would give zero tolerance, banning all accounts involved in it, forever. Permanently disbanding all guilds who had a member present.

I think all of this could be fixed with a few judicious lines of code - either do no allow the sleeper to be awoken at all, or, make the warders still spawn anyway, after the general nastiness has concluded. Not classic, but allows some guild the chance at mutual pixel masturbation and bragging rights, and at same time doesn't screw over the other 98% of the server.

99.99% sure if Sleeper is awoken, there will be no reset, cuz, not classic. Most you can hope for is another progression server after and then cry about it when that sleeper is awoken too.

Menobank

or idk maybe they wont allow sleeper to be awoken at all? since we will never be going beyond velious why even have him be able to be awoken?

I'd be very curious to see a server by server list of when the sleeper was woken on each.

How many occured in Velious, how many in Luclin etc.

Found this list (http://www.albrandes.com/skden/articles/sleeper.asp). Can't vouch for accuracy though.

I do know Keepers of the Faith (Prexus) went dick and woke Sleeper in November 2001 before Luclin. Just as other people started getting enough keys to get into ST. https://web.archive.org/web/20011130214943/http://www.keepersofthefaith.org/

It seems like most people have forgotten about this poll:

http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1194517&highlight=sleeper+poll#post1194517

The 100% classic option only got 28.74% of the votes, so I suspect that wont' be the way the devs go. Personally I liked either:

When Sleeper awakened keys get deleted and possible to cause the tomb to respawn with the warders.
and:
Monthly resets of Sleeper's tomb

I particularly like the latter option because it could potentially mean that all of Norath has to suffer from the Sleeper's rampage on a monthly basis :D

/shrug

Maybe, but if they planned to do that why would they go through the trouble of creating the poll? Think about it: when was the last time you can remember the devs bothering to create a poll here, or for that matter asking the forum community for any feedback?

It seems to me that the poll was a pretty rare occurrence, and not something the devs would bother with if they just planned to go "full classic". Then again ...

Bosses get that veto power.
Ultimately all we can do is speculate and wait to see.
