View Full Version : Game Mechanics: NPC's Inventory Memory

This is an issue among several things:

A Merchant will keep their entire inventory even after being killed + respawning
A Quest NPC will keep a partial quest turnin even after being killed + respawning

Both of these are not classic.

Killing a merchant should have them respawn with no items in their inventory (other than their default).
Killing or despawning a quest NPC should have them respawn with no quest items in que for MQ purposes.

I just freshly spawned a Kaiaren (sane) for monk epic. Turned in my Celestial Book on cleric and received the Celestial Fists (epic) without having had my guildmate on my monk, turn in my Demon Fangs. This is not correct. Sane Kaiaren was not up and I freshly spawned him by turning in the Celestial Fists (book). He should have nothing in his quest que at this point after being spawned.

He shouldn't keep his inventory from a previous turnin after having despawned and respawned. Not classic.

This is fixed next patch.

Quest npcs need to be looked at.

we had this happen on red the other day regarding stanos and a rogue epic turn in

freshly spawned stanos, someone turned in a cazic quill while trying to MQ it, ended up receiving the full epic turn-in before a pouch and jagged diamond dagger were turned in

Not fixed currently. Can test with any merchant in game atm.

I killed a Gypsy merchant in Lavastorm, still full when she respawned.

EDIT: Derp just saw this thread http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173533&highlight=MERCHANT

Yea, merchants should give no corpse. I remember* killing the low level merchants in the ogre newbie ground hoping I could take some of their inventory back when I was a noobynoob. Such disappoint. I'm pretty sure they gave faction hit for ogre citizen though.

*disclaimer: memory may be corrupt.

If you guys fix the quest NPC bug, will you take past failed quest turns into into consideration? Because a couple months ago a cleric epic turn in failed even though all the correct items were handed in and the NPC spawns for the turn in. Apparently even though he was a fresh spawn he was keeping botched MQ info on him, and GMs don't help with this.

bigger issue at hand:

the merchants should not give EXP and should not give faction hits or gains and should not ever drop a corpse.

they currently do all 3.

please fix to merchants poofing after death and not leaving a corpse and not having any faction hit/gain and not giving exp for kill.

No, in Velious, merchants could have a corpse. Note, that only a few do leave corpses. One example is Petcas Coldbeard in thurgadin, for the reinforcements of tunarean regiment quest. Classically, he dropped the ancient rusted key. After Velious, they changed merchants to not be able to leave corpses, and moved that drop to Guard Halldor.

Another example is Marlin Shirtov in highpass drops the dark shackle key.

That is a completely separate issue, and needs its own bug thread.

I had the same issue with Monk epic.

Ran my monk to the same house by the lake and he wasn't up.

Spawned Sane Kaiaren with my cleric, had a guildmate log on my monk, then I ran cleric back there. Turned in Celestial Fists (Book) for Book of Celestial Fists, then turned that into a freshly spawned Kaiaren... And now my Cleric has a Monk epic bagged since its memory somehow kept a Demon Fang.

I'd love to get the book back but... Getting Merchants fixed would be a huge first step.

Quests or Merchants? Or both?!?!?

Merchants. Did not look at quests. Probably need to unload their quests on death to clear the temp variables. I know how to check if they are loaded. Not sure how to unload. Its probably fairly simple. Only a five min fix. But 2 hrs of work to find where to put.
