What would be better to play, a druid or shaman? I think I will be soloing/duoing with a shadowknight combo but not sure entirely what would the be best setup overall.

If you're duoing with a melee, definitely go Shaman.
Druid is only a great duo partner for a select few classes and specific play styles.
That being said, they will save you a lot of time when traveling around Norrath. But it is a big tradeoff.

Shaman is a better option in most cases, and more duoing with a melee, were shaman slows will come real handy.
Aside from that, agree with Wenuven post. Druid is a great soloer and a fun class to play, very versatile and great travel options, but when it comes to groups, the lack of a slow/Debuff is a great handicap.
However, a druid can duo pretty good with a shadowknight anyway, thorns, skin, rege, str, heal, DoTs and higuer nuke capability than shamans work too. But it will be defo faster with a shaman.
Play the class you have enjoy the most, that's my advise :)

Obviously I love playing a druid but I'll shoot it to you straight
and you've probably heard it before I'm posting this.
Shaman+a melee class is a great duo.
Druids can do ok at first but we just can't keep up with heals later on.
We can do a few tricks such as kite and charm a pet but a charmed pet won't
hold aggro and then we're back to not being able to keep up with heals.
Shamans have the same heals as druids and they can slow and haste the
melee. The slow is the clincher. Go with shaman if you're going to duo.

Shaman is more like a mix between an enchanter and a necro whereas Druid is its own class. Druids are, generally, less powerful than a Shaman. Their plus side is they have superior mobility (ports, snares, etc) and are much better at powerleveling other characters.
