I have something very, very special in store for Project 1999 (well, for Blue anyway; sorry Red <3). After much planning, patience and paperwork, and SO MANY thanks to the compassionate senior staff of the server (<3uDeru)... as part of my Extra Life day of games I will be conducting an Extra Life donation-based raffle for some very valuable items on the Project 1999 Blue (PvE) server!

I really like the concept, but I think it would be very difficult to gauge which items will be unlocked based on donation levels since donations are only open for about 24 hours.

Is there a reason the donation window is so small ? I feel like a few more days would help get the word out and encourage more donations!

The donation window is 24/7/365, but the raffle window is only for a 23 hour period from 10/25/2014 8AM CDT to 10/26/2014 7AM CDT.

This is because the Extra Life "day of games" is October 25th and that's what I'm participating in by doing my 24-hour livestream. The raffle is a way to bring attention to the cause and give people some incentive to throw their money at charity. RMT is also strictly forbidden on this server and as such the license for the raffle needed to be very clear and not be too bloated time-wise.

As for the item unlocks, I'm still not even sure if I'm going to do that. I may just put everything in a pool, have the raffle system draw names (weighted based on # of tickets) and award the items in order of most valuable to least valuable. The reason I don't have this set in stone yet is I'm still receiving offers from people who would like to donate their high-value item to the cause. By the time I start the stream/raffle at 8AM on 10/25 I will have the final award system worked out and clearly stated.

These two situations are not even comparable, and I don't appreciate the flippant sarcasm even if it's meant as a joke. Sektor's wedding exchange was not, is not, and never will be legitimate or approved by the CSR staff - it's selfish and blatant RMT, something Sektors was informed of when the thread was edited by me to confirm the illegitimacy of the idea to anyone who happened to read it after the edit. I don't find equating selling items for wedding gifts and the funding of a charity dedicated to saving the lives of young children handed a death sentence in the form of leukemia to be very funny.

We spent a fair amount of time discussing this raffle, and I spent a lot of time spelling out clear guidelines that would need to be followed in order to ensure this could be supported and approved by the staff. I will also be putting in a considerable amount of time after the event going over the donations themselves in order to verify this was all done legitimately and adhered to the rules and regulations set prior to the event.

The image displayed in the original post is just one section of a much larger document and contract that, if not followed, will end with Norova taking the full punishment reserved for career platinum sellers. There is no doubt in my mind that this will be done properly, and I'm thrilled we were able to make this happen - it would have been extremely difficult to say no to such a selfless and heart-felt request. I sincerely hope that, despite the effort required from myself in order for this to happen, more people follow his example and attempt similar events. It puts a huge smile on my face knowing someone is using Project 1999 to help fund an important cause they are passionate about supporting.

Didn't want to send a PM, so I slipped it in at the end here. Anything by TurtleBeach is great - they are used by lots of streamers, and don't have to be expensive if you don't want. Myself and several others use a $30 pair of these to stream with and it sounds great, while having the added benefit of looking cute on girlfriends that stream (everyone has one of these, right?). You have options all the way up to the $200-$300 range, so do some research on what they have available to fit your needs.

Originally, I was going to just award the items to the first winner -> last winner, from most valuable -> least valuable, but with the generous item donations that are being offered toward the raffle since the initial announcement I'm thinking that's probably not the best way to go about it. (Also, for those wondering about the limited timeframe for acceptance of raffle entries, this is a great example. ;) Now I have time to make changes before anyone has put themselves out there.)

My qualms with allowing tickets for specific items are 1) maintenance overhead, and 2) prize distribution.

1.) I'd need to monitor every donation during the event via my Extra Life page (people can hide their comment and/or donation from the public page) to be sure they chose an item properly. Anyone who did not properly submit their donation comment would need to notified immediately to give them a chance to correct before the raffle time window closes.

2.) After the raffle ends, compiling all of the entrants and actually conducting the raffle would take a sizable amount of time. Probably at least one day. I don't mind putting in the work, but after my 24th hour I'm going to practically be a zombie and would need to get some decent rest before I could even start on the final task. I've written a whole back-end database webapp to automatically catalog all of my donations and such, but even with that it'd still take a bit to sort out winners. Due to this, I'd need to give people a reasonable amount of time to claim their item from me. I can't ever guarantee what my playtime availability will be for P99 so I'm afraid some people would end up waiting longer than they'd prefer. One solution to that is to require entrants to be present during the actual raffle drawing and I'd rather not do that. It severely limits the number of people able to contribute.

Maybe there's a happy medium? Allow choice of a select few items, all other entries can go into a randomly awarded pool? I dunno. I just want to maximize the donation potential of the whole thing. :) I'm open to ideas!

No kidding - he's even going to get a couple broadcasts the day of, so I'm really hoping that gets the non-forum going community.

This server can drum up an insane amount of money for things when given a reason to do so - the Pantheon fund drive is a prime example of this, with the Project 1999 donations possibly exceeding $40,000 in less than a month - and definitely breaking the $35,000 mark. When I was initially typing up the donation rewards for us to all talk about, I did the global rewards thinking it'd be impressive if we did 10k - I never expected we'd hit nearly $50,000, and if the Kickstarter had been successful the server would have had a month long experience bonus on Red and Blue. That's some serious buying power - Project 1999 could start feeding small and impoverished third world countries if that kind of money were put towards charity each month.

Tons of people showing their support by making the item pool even better. To try and incentivize more donations, it might be smart to package the cheaper items together. Donating to a good cause should, by itself, be a sufficient reward, but I understand that if you were to win the raffle and get something you can't use and worth little platinum, while the guy next to you got a fungi, you may feel a bit irked at the outcome. Just a thought I had after seeing even more items being donated - you should of course do what you feel is right in the end.

This is so awesome. Children's Hospital is an amazing place, they helped my 6 year old son (nothing seriously life threating mind you) and he was happy the whole time because they take such great care of children. You can bet I will be donating to this and the added incentive of raffle items is great! Draw 20 winners if you have 20 prizes (or whatever)
Send each winner an email explaning the default pick order.
Give them 24 hours to respond with a custom pick order (if no response, use default for that person).
Then look at the first drawn winner's list and give them their first choice. (or really the first winner only needs to pick 1, not make the whole list, second winner needs to give you 2 choices, etc)

This allows the choosing to take 24 hours, gives the winners some control over prize, and at worst (if they don't respond) they'll end up with whatever prize was most valuable when their spot in the draft comes up.

For me it is about the kids. No backstory, but with two little girls at home and with some experience with Children's hospital and some other organizations like that (Gilette, etc) I can't think of another way to save taxes that is more deserving.

All in all, I can't say it enough- I was proud (and still am) to be a P99er because of how everyone came together - including Staff - to put our stamp on this event.
