Nah we killed em up river the day before this pic. We have a moose camp set up down river about 2 miles. I'm the guy on the right, the guy on the left is my hunting/fishing partner seen in other pics throughout the summer listed below.

http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146530

We killed most of em about a mile from the river banks and had to pack them to the river and load em on boats to take to the bridge.

It was a hell of an adventure, I was charged by a bear and moose, almost shot by another hunter and fell out of a tree from about 20 feet up before hiking for 5 hours back to camp through the dense brush and deep muskeg.

chortled, I'm not sure on numbers but Alaska is fuckin huge, we pulled two more out before this pick was taken too.

For you non-hunters out there, all I can say is that there is a savage within, I think we all have it. I haven't always been a hunter but I'll tell ya what, after my first kill, I knew that up til that point, something in my life had been missing.

Troll on brews, wish we could make eye contact.

When I was young I used to hunt and fish all the time. Hell, I was the kid running around the fishing spots asking other people if I could lead pipe their fish to death for them. As I grow older I realized all living creatures have 1 thing in common, the absolute desire to live.

I'm starting to have more heart for animals than I do humans, no bestiality.

Awesome pic!

Deer season starts next month in Texas and I'm headed up to my ranch this weekend to finish up a few things.....hunting wimpy deer in Texas where there is no real predator...I guess if you get caught in the open with a bunch of hogs maybe... to worry about seems so shitty compared to hunting giant moose in Alaska with fucking Grizzly bears in the woods around you.

Pras to you sir. Awesome display of man.

You have obviously never had properly cooked venison fillets .

Some people embrace what it is to be a man. Some people like to live inside of their safe bubble of civilization, which you are entitled to do.

I enjoy vacationing in Mexico, but I also like hunting and killing my own meat that is free of hormones, anti biotics, etc.

Genedin gets it. I'm not much of a glory hunter but I do have a different level of appreciation for every piece of meat I don't have to kill. Nothing wrong with living life. The human experience is a diverse one. I just prefer the primal side of it. We were hunter/gatherers for thousands and thousands of years prior to "civilization" if that's what you would call it. There is a savage within, all you need to do is give it a chance.

I'd give you the breakdown of the hunt but I dont feel like typing it out.

Long story short, treed by a bear, free fall from a tree 20 feet up (broken branch climbing) run in with a wounded adult bull moose (15 feet away on the other side of a little tree maybe 5 feet tall) I was in the wrong on that one, stay the hell out of open ground when 1000 lbs is comin at ya. Got turned around and walked through the brush for 5 hours with no food water or ammo until dark. Shit got crazy but I walked out alive.

I'm definitely not the best, but I'm not gonna let that stop me from learning more about it. What would you suggest? Pussing out and eating the waaaaay over priced goods available in rural Alaska?

Branches break, bears are pretty quite in their element and you never know when you'll be put in a situation where your options are survive or die from exposure.

I have history here, a business to run, people who depend on me, a community that I play an active role in. There is just too much to turn my back on and I really do find a lot of satisfaction from walking into a room of friends, knowing I'm welcome and knowing that they can trust in me to come through for them, no matter the cost.

Hiking 100 miles in 5 days > Hunting animals. A great way to get outdoors and test yourself without having to sit in a tree hours on end. Someone told me hunters have high heart attack rates from doing nothing all day; than attempting to drag out 10s of pounds of meat miles off trail.

My idea a good time is a night out in Manhattan at an expensive restaurant, going to see a broadway, and staying at a four star hotel in the middle of the city.
