View Full Version : Monk solo leveling guide?

Hi guys. I've been soloing on my monk, but I'm starting to hit a road block of places to go. Right now, I'm level 21, and have been soloing in Oasis, and its been good. However, lots of things are starting to turn low green, which, combined with the general crowding in Oasis, has really caused a slowdown in XP. I looked around to see if I could find a monk soloing guide, but couldn't find anything.. WIth that in mind, I'm wondering if any of you can point me in the direction of a good monk soloing guide? Or, if not that, then maybe suggest a few spots on where I could solo from level ~21-30 or so.
If it matters, this toon is a human monk with FBSS and Quivering Staff, so DPS is pretty good.
Karanas are good. At 21 you could probably do well in South Karana. Also, Kunark: I think Warsliks Woods, OT, and LOIO are good at that level. A bit later, you can transition to Firiona Vie and Frontier Mountains.

If you're into going to Kunark you can get some decent XP in LOIO. If you push to 23/24 you can go to bandit ruins near bandit lake in Warslik's Woods and that will carry you to 27/28 pretty quickly then you can trash brutes in WW till 32 pretty easily (especially with intimidation at 28 & 29 when they can still hurt you).

1-20 FoB/Kurn's
20-29 WW Giants
29-39 HHK Guards
39-44 DL Yeti's
44-49 Spectres
All this can easily be intimidation killed and chain pulled non stop

Thanks for the reply. Just a couple questions though. 1)Is there anywhere closer than FV that a human monk can bind to WW?
2)As a human monk, are there any faction concerns with doing HHK guards?

Agnostic human monks are good faction with OT too.

Unfortunately, my monk is a quellious follower, so I have problems in OT, don't I? Can I bind by the wall though? Would that work?

Ah, yeah you can bind right outside the wall in a couple spots.

Swim around the wall and get bound on the shore. With sneak you can get to docks and take boats if needed.

You can bind near Kaesora too.

I don't know WW so well, and bandit lake/bandit ruins aren't marked on map. do you have a loc or description of where it is in the zone?
Edit: Nm, just missed it on the map
Edit#2: FOund the bandit lake...where is the bandit ruins in relation to bandit lake?0

I went from 22-27 in OT right next to the outpost. Luckily I had my mask of the deceiver to run mobs to the guards if I got overwhelmed, but as a monk with FD that shouldn't be an issue. I then went from 27-30 on the WW giants. Very nice camp. Now I'm heading to the FM giants to give them a shot, if that doesn't work out I'll probably just go to HHK like was suggested above.
I would also recommend WW. Both giants and brutes - good exp and often people around with to duo with if your gear isn't the greatest.

If you follow the river down from the bandit lake there's some ruins on the left (Northwest) side of river around.. -800,-2600 ish? I'm not certain of the loc. It's about halfway between the lake and the giant fort. The wiki map calls it outcast iksar hut (#11).
There's 3 connected 'buildings'. The middle one has no spawns and you can split the side ones into it if you like. Each of the side rooms has 3 spawns. Manslayers and Pariahs spawn, and Manslayers will go partial/full green eventually, but the exp stays good from the Pariahs (and the manslayers stay exp through to dinging 28 at least, iirc).

How hard will spectres be for a 45 monk with IFS and FBSS? Im kinda tired of DL/FV. Any other suggestions?

Any mobs below level 40 you can just fear kite with Intimidation, that's why spectres are great since they are like 37. I did the Feerrott ones since they are all single pulls and you can just fear them around the tunnels, but it gets crowded there sometimes.

Just wanted to say i tried the spectres, and they were doable, but usuaĺly heavy camped. Also, i need some more wr bags for this to be good :-)

Guards inside Oggok are good too at that spectre level. They are all around 34-37, drop fine steel every time, shields, and crude steins. You can always sneak/vendor the fine steel, and bank when you need. One of my favorite spots.

Just did 24-26 in Everfrost killing mammoths with intimidation. Needed some plats so it worked out great. There's always someone killing ice giants that you can get buffs from. Had a few druids and shamans give me chloro and sow.
I play really late night so zone is mostly empty beside myself and the IG farmers. There are 5 mammoth spawns between Permafrost and Megan's tower and a vendor close to the tower that you can sell the tusks for. It's really crowded during peak hours tho with so many druids charm killing and wizards quadding.

20ish is a rough point for a monk, much like upper 40s. Just not much to do solo-wise that is practical.
I managed to do goblins in LOIO and avoided the shamans. Once I was 23 or so, I rotated between WW groups and sarnak fort. When I wasn't grouped, I was fear kiting mobs in LOIO near the lake by the FM zoneline choke point. I understand fear kiting does not work as well anymore though.. it was truly OP. Fear kited from 25 to 50 basically..
My roadmap looked something like this:
15-22 Oasis Orcs and DW Crocs
20-30 LOIO goblins, sarnak fort, Lake by FM zoneline
30-38 Split paw spires, SK birdhouse (harriers and avocets)
35-42 Solo guards in high keep omg so many xp once you learn it.
38-45 FM fort and soloing non casters around it. Gotta be real careful there
43-50 SolB noble camp, bats n bugs, GREAT solo spot is yeti cave in north east dreadlands KC side.
50-52 KC :( and solo hill giants for cash
Then i quit because i hate KC, that place brings the worst out in lots of people.

KC is an evil place that no one should ever go to. I can't believe how popular it is on this server. I won't step foot in there other than for raids. Horrid exp, crappy loot, bad faction hits. I don't know why anyone goes there.

Because it's steady exp, steady loot, and insignificant faction hits. Trains are the real problem of the zone, and I think they just add to it's charm. Fleeing for your life is one of the few times EQ gets fun and exciting.

1-20 I did in FOB/Kurns
20-25 Goblin camp in WW (theres a few) watch out for Grachnist
25-30 Sisters/Dwarves/Gargs in OOT (amazing plat)
30-35 Halfling Guards in Misty (more good plat)
35-39 Guards in NK (tower near gypsy or the three at SK zoneline)
39- BBM guards
This is of course for evil master race that dont give a rip about faction :p

You can do HK guards at 30 yeah, but there are some you can't kill and some npc's to watch out for.
It's really get exp and money - but it seems like a lot of monk/shaman twinks kill them but there are plenty to share. There's like 3 floors of guards so just explore and find the ones you can kill. I think I did them up to 40 on my monk - even when they turn light blue.

At 30 you should really be relatively twinked (HP rings, jade mace/KD, or peacebringer with haste) or shaman/enchanter buffed (use Augment instead of alacrity, it lasts longer) to make it worth your while. I recall some guards (mainly top floor) doubling for 70~. Ouch.

Ok so there really isn't anywhere else to go at 20 other than WW or LOIO? Not upper guk? I mean who did people get past 20 before Kunark came out?

South Karana, start at egrets and work your way up to aviaks. if you run out of those hop over into lake rather and kill the gnolls right inside the zone, or run over to the centaur village and kill the lowbies there. SK can easily take you from 20-30.
If it's not too crowded unrest is pretty good too, I found that it was far too busy and I got twice as many kill in South Karana as I did in unrest thus negating any kind of xp bonus.

Made my way to SK last night, way better for me than what LOIO was. Got 1/2 a level in about 30mins.

Once a mob reaches 20%, you can FD and they will walk away even if you are at low health.
