View Full Version : Question about a "server timeline" concept mentioned in last nights stream

In last nights stream Sirk said that maybe (this is all just guessing im sure) after vellious is complete that they will open a proper timeline server or something, who knows!
My question about a proper timeline server (and this could be as simple as answering, "yes") would be , does that mean that the server would (per Luclins release in the timeline) reset?
I mean the way I see it right now, wouldn't it make no sense to release classic/kunark/velious and all the patches along the proper time line, and then just idle at completion for eternity? Wouldn't that be the same as the current server in the end?
So maybe the answer to that question is, yes its a rotating server concept that resets.
I am just asking since it is often mentioned or talked about or requested. So I guess this question is for the people wanting of such a server.
Thank you!

Pretty sure he meant they would open a new server that would follow classic timeline exactly and they would let p99 be what it is.

yea that's where my question begins... does this hypothetical server reset at the event of luclins release on the timeline?
If not, wouldn't after 4 years that server be the same as this server?

Increasing the number of servers by 50% would just increase the amount of bugs/tickets right? Would they be planning on recruiting more guides in response to a new server opening?
It would be interesting to see what would happen to the B99 server population if a new server opened up...

Yea I am not advocating a new server, or even feel like one is necessary. I am just asking about this particular server concept, seems flawed without resets to me. So I'd like to hear from the people that are looking for "a proper timeline server"

I think most GMs would either go insane or quit dealing with the return of so many tryhard raiders that would eat up a server like that.

New server, make it Teams99. Correct progression timeline. Server stays at Velious indefinitely - until The Sleeper is awakened, destroys the world and the server wipes and reboots.
Would play.

What is the point of speculating?
I don’t think our opinion matters, anyhow.
People will always want something else.
Especially if they’re new to the server.
In cases like this we just have to be patient.
There’s no reason to add to the gms burdens.
Certainly this would add some excitement.
Luckily we already have a good server.
Even if it is a bit saturated.
As for the new people,
No one should complain, because we have…
2 great servers already standing,
0 dollar cost to play on them,
1 awesome expansion pending release, and
4 excellent developers working on it.

oh please god yes. and for those peeps that would say there's not enough population for such an undertaking, the nearly 1200 peeps on Blue on top of the new people that would funnel in upon hearing about it would answer that concern.

KK sounds like people are into the reset loop, thanks for helping me understand! :D

I'm a big proponent of this idea. Let the classic-vel timeline playout until the day that Luclin was released, then dump the whole server into original p99 and start over! P99 becomes the "Legacy" server in which new content can be tried, etc.

So you want a time-locked progression server; which upon the end of Velious is merged into Blue99 and reset to Classic. Or, if anyone played Diablo 2, a ladder and non-ladder server.
Sounds good to me.
Edit - Sorry Doil, you posted 1 minute before I did, hehe.

:) I would really really love the chance to play vanilla eq again from the very start! Selling banded and bronze, PGTs and CDSs, Dragoon Dirks! The challenge of having horrible gear! Let's do it!

I wouldn't expect such a server to be a "thing" for at least 5 years. So wouldn't concern myself.
And I don't think this would affect the plan for Teams99.

As a new player to the server who missed the pre-kunark days, this is definitely appealing.
Would the population really be an issue? I would have thought a server like that would cycle in lots of older/inactive players, especially those who are going to want to race to all the firsts.

It would be like maggots to a dead cat. Unless they just let a true prog server go full-on failed state / Somali warlord level haxxors (like SOE did with the Fippy Darkpaw server) the amount of *fast* policing required would make a relatively stable and weary server like p99 look like Mayberry RFD.

I think that Luclin release is a much too short timespan for a server reset. There's a lot to do in Velious, hell the Avatar of War wasn't even killed legitimately until right before the Luclin release. One of the issues that SoE had with Luclin is that no one wanted to leave Velious to experience the new expansion. That's part of the reason why they added that annoying ring event to Vulak.

I think a new server which closely follows the original timeline would be the best thing to happen to P99. All the bullshit alt armies and thousands of fungi tunics and overgeared toons and stupid amount of platz, all of which allow the RMT scene to thrive, are the main problems with the current servers.
They tried to solve these problems by forcing some loot rationing policy and adding an abundance of server repops, but it's still inherently flawed with a screwed up economy and way too many raid capable guilds.
Think about it, several guilds are going to be entering Velious WAY overgeared relative to what they should actually be, and many players have several very well geared level 60 toons to choose from. And lets not forget all the accounts that are sitting dormant until Velious actually does pop, all those players will be returning with their army of 60 toons. Is this really how people want to experience Velious?

So... you'd invest time for years - literally years - with the foreknowledge that it will all go away. Sounds familiar.

Again, if they made the original server the "Legacy" server that the reset server dumps into, it would make for an interesting dichotomy.

New Servers! Lets use a kicker starter to fund our new progression blue server! The RMT, the plat duping, and the years of farming have ruined this servers economy.
Why not have the best p99 experience possible? Why settle for 'ok'.

No, the world does not reset when you die. Everything you accumulate remains.

How much would they need to raise to setup a new blue server?

It couldn't be that much at this point. I bet we could raise it in 2 weeks.
