My friend's cousin dated Derek Jeter for a while and had keys to his apartment. According to the story she entered one day to find him butt ass naked on his couch watching highlights of himself and bumping his chest with his fist saying "YEAH JEETS, YEAH JEETS".
I actually kinda believe this. Only because one of my friends claims he knew a girl that went back to Derek Jeter's place one night and proceeded to go down on him. As she performed, Jeter put his hand on her head and said "Yeah Jeets, yeah Jeets," as she kept going. I believe it was a soft "yeah Jeets" as opposed to a screaming bumping "YEAH JEETS." But it's close enough. I never knew if it was true, but if someone unrelated has another "Yeah Jeets" story, it is gaining some validity to me.

gettin lil tired of sports media jerking off Derek Jeter for the past 8 months or so since it's becoming Favre-like
excellent player tho especially compared to his contemporaries. didn't deserve the golden gloves for defensive play, but w/e
And you've still got A-Rod next season, yanks fans.
Right...? Guys? A-Rod!

How many titles did they win while he was captain? How deep will they go in the playoffs this year? LOL
lol?
Jeter is noted for his postseason performances, and has earned the titles of "Captain Clutch", and "Mr. November" due to his postseason heroics. He has a career .309 postseason batting average, and a .351 batting average in the World Series. Except for 2008, 2013 and 2014, the Yankees have been to the postseason every year since Jeter joined the team and he earned a 5th ring with the yankees by winning the world series in 2009.

The answer we were looking for is one. One title in his decade+ of captaincy with the highest payroll in the league.
he won 5 championships with the team. not sure what the honorary title of captain has to do with anything

Baseball playoffs are weird. There is a huge percentage of wild card teams and lower seeds winning it compared to other sports. If you have two aces you can limp in and win it pretty easy.
The most telling stat I read regarding the Yankees while Jeter was on the team (20 years) was that in his entire career he only played ONE game where his team was mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. You can knock the championships but getting to the playoffs consistently is more difficult than sneaking in and winning it all once imo (ask the Marlins).
Jeter was way overrated defensively, but his offensive WAR was still the best of all time for a SS, and I believe top 10-20 all time. He was at like a +80 offensive and -9 defense spread out over 20 years, which is basically league average when you average it out. Not sure I'd knock a guy too much for playing league average defense at the most difficult defensive position while putting up the best offensive numbers over time at that same position. Plus the dude had the most years of any player in the history of baseball with a .300+ avg and double digit HRs and steals which shows his versatility. His career OBP is #1 all time for players with anywhere near his total starts at SS. He also had nearly an .850 OPS in the playoffs, with more hits than any other player. If you look at his playoff numbers its like almost 160 games (a full season) and he put up a season MVP type stat line playing against the best teams and pitchers in the highest pressure situations. They don't call him captain cool for nothin'.
He is a top 5 SS of all time, and you can make a strong case for anywhere in the top 3.

Yeah he has the record for most hits by a shortstop in MLB history and he holds a .351 average in the world series (he was there 7 times).
Jeter holds MLB postseason records for games played (158), plate appearances (734), at-bats (650), hits (200), singles (143), doubles (32), triples (5), runs scored (111), total bases (302). Jeter is also third in home runs (20), fourth in runs batted in (61), fifth in base on balls (66) and sixth stolen bases (18).
Anyone who knows baseball can't argue with these types of numbers. You may personally dislike him or the yankees but statistics like those speak for themselves.

All of this while playing in one of the toughest if not THE most difficult division in baseball.

The playoff stats are what stick out for me. You're almost always facing #1 and 2 starters from very good teams, so you can't pile up stats on some #5 starter or fill in from triple A. .310 or w/e average, 111 Rs, 61 RBIs, 20 HRs, 18 SBs in 157 games (roughly one season) while playing against the best? MVP caliber there.

By the way the L.A dodgers have the highest payroll in the league - Yankees are # 2.

It works for baseball though, as small market teams have always been able to compete. The real issue isn't the cap it's the floor. Teams like the Yankees shell out big bucks in luxury tax so teams like the Marlins are already in the black before they sell a ticket due to revenue sharing, TV contracts, etc. Not a real motivation for shitbag owners to build a good team when they are actually more profitable running a team of triple A players out there and getting their shit pushed in.

No salary cap is fine for baseball. There is a great variation of teams that make it to the championship compared to sports that DO have a pay cap. Competition is a non-issue in baseball.
Some context :
NFL
Hard cap on payroll, franchise tag for roster stability
Champions (7): Patriots (3), Steelers (2), Buccaneers, Giants, Saints, Colts, Packers
Super Bowl teams (14): Seven champs plus Bears, Raiders, Cardinals, Panthers, Eagles, Rams, Seahawks
Non-playoff teams (3): Bills, Lions, Texans
MLB
No salary cap, only luxury tax on high payrolls
Champions (9): Red Sox (2), Giants, Yankees, Phillies, Cardinals, White Sox, Marlins, Angels, Diamondbacks
World Series teams (14): Nine champs plus Astros, Rangers, Rays, Rockies, Tigers
Non-playoff teams (5): Nationals/Expos, Royals, Pirates, Blue Jays, Orioles
NBA
Hard cap on individual salaries, soft cap on payroll, exceptions allowed, luxury tax on teams over payroll cap
Champions (5): Lakers (4), Spurs (3), Celtics, Heat, Pistons
Finals teams (10): Five champs plus Mavericks, 76ers, Nets, Magic, Cavaliers.
Non-playoff teams (0): Knicks and Timberwolves have longest droughts, since 2004

Yeah injuries plagued us hard this year. The pitching staff pretty much fell apart at the seams - CC, Nova, Pineda and Tanaka.
Certainly missing A-rod did not help our case either and Brian Mcann was a huge fucking disappointment. Although 2015 is looking pretty bright for the yankees.

The baseball playoff parity is even more impressive when you consider it has the least % of teams making the playoffs:
NFL: 12/32 = 37.5%
NBA: 16/30 = 53%
MLB: 8/30 (until this year) = 26% and 10/30 this year and going forward = 33%

Yeah, the SP situation was a mess. And honestly, Jeter moving on at this point is addition by subtraction. A-Roids was still a productive player in 2013, offense is very suppressed league wide at this point...a dude hitting .265 with 25 HRs is a solid offensive player now.
It could be worse though, you could be a Twins fan like me. :)
