Hello,
I usually play in windowed mode, and I frequently lose control of my character as if Everquest makes the outlandish assumption that I wanted to alt+tab...(my character starts spinning, frame rates drop as if I switched to another window)
Has anyone exerienced this and/or know a workaround? I've mentioned this in-game and was pointed towards that old WinEQ? program... Suggestions?
Thank you,
Agatha

eqwindows is pretty much the only way to play EQ, your client will run a whole lot smoother.

Thanks for the suggestion, Agatha~
Do you have an offsite link that I could follow?

you need to register an account on their site as it requires you to log in when you start the program.

Oh, thanks!
So, my guess is that you are talking about WinEQ 2(lite version)? I must try this when I get home...

Good suggestion, might have to try that too. Nothing like being in the middle of something, or pvping, and you click out of window or drag your window halfway across the house.

Yeah the lite version. WinEQ is the shit, can actually use resolutions all the way up to 1920, plus it doesn't do the bug you are talking about, my personal bane was the prevention of alt+tabbing.

Well, downloaded the WinEQ the other day - it was real easy to setup...!
However, I'm still dealing with a rather gamebreaking issue... very frequently, whenever I attempt to right-click to look around or steer my character, my cursor fails to disappear and enter into the 'look mode'.
Thoughts or solutions?
Thank you!

Sounds like your window is losing focus. What does the cursor look like after it fails to register the mouse look click? Windows style or in-game style?
Anything blinking on your taskbar when this happens? I had a server once that kept hosing up because it had a printer attached and it kept popping up this message saying one of the trays was out of paper, and would pop to the front and hose things up.

Kergan, great diagnoses of my initial issue - but, I'm no longer have trouble with my EQ window losing focus. The cursor maintains the in-game style the whole time... it never reverts to the Windows style as if my active
Other symptoms of this new issue include:
-not being able to reliably hold right click on items to 'inspect' - this is especially aggravating when attempting to loot a corpse, and all I want to do is inspect the item before looting it... but I end up looting it instead!
-not being able to 'mouse turn' without a sudden interruption of the 'mouse look' function of holding right-lick.
At all times, my EQ window maintains focus.
Thanks!

Man, I know this may be oversimplifying it but maybe you just have a mouse on the fritz? Got a spare one lying around to see if that one has the same problem?

No, that's a good baseline test...
Unfortunately I can't test right now, but will be able to later. I use a Razer Naga, and have been curious/worried if this lil' guy has been failing me.
Thanks!

Yeah sounds like your right clicker might be on the way out.

While on the mouse topic - do you have any recommendations of a solid mouse with a FEW extra buttons on the side...? This Naga has way too many, and I can't even reliably press any of these buttons with purpose~ :(

I'm a big Logitech fan myself. Think I posted it in another thread but I've been using my Logitech G5 for 10 years now. I like really heavy mice so I buy the ones with the little weight pack you can cram some extra grams into. I also hate wireless mice, and make sure to get laser over optical. After that it's just looks/feel really.

I have heard good things about Logitech - I think my attraction to reliability might have taken a front seat recently, as well...(no more flashy, light-up, dysfunctional pieces of...!)
Now this might get way off topic from where this started... but I started it...!
I also want to buy a laptop for EQ, so I can get away from sitting/confined at an uncomfortable desk. Trying to find a good deal, per the below, but none of those options include a solid-state which I think is imperative for PVP server, right? I don't want to be loading like a slug while nasty PKers beat me up. Thoughts?

I'd want to be spending hours on the couch with this laptop/EQ - but, then I'd also need to come up with an idea for a good way to use my mouse... Book/Pad is kinda ghetto. Thoughts on this as well?
Thanks!

You can easily add a SSD after the fact, often times at much cheaper prices than they charge you to preinstall. If the laptop has 2 drive bays you can toss in the SSD and use the existing standard drive for media storage and stuff that you don't need fast read/write speed for.
Pretty much any modern system is going to torch EQ, even the chipset graphics cards have more memory for textures and stuff than discrete high end cards did back in the early 2000s. In general though if you want to play other games look for some sort of discrete graphics.
If it's gonna be on your lap at all steer clear of any of the AMD mobile procs, things run hot as hell.

Oof, almost all of the machines I linked are equipped with an integrated graphics...
EXCEPT this Acer, but it doesn't pass your AMD test:

Also, that Acer has some weird touch screen feature and loaded with Win 8 x.x. Not interested! (side note: also, didn't see mention of any aux drive bays for an SSD - but I may be missing something)
