Bored on blue last night so fire up red. First time on pvp server in 15 years. Somehow have level 2 gnome cleric on here, sweet. Roll with it. Zone in. Steamfont/Akanon dead, no signs of life.
Grind to 3 in newbie crater. Steamrolled few times by spider adds and coyotes. Haven't been a gnome in a decade. Solo exp sucks. Grind anyway. Run back to Akanon, beg someone for money, get 2pp. He cautions me, "Only buy what you need, get all your spells, life is cutthroat here, dont hunt in usual zones". Noted.
Get spells strike, blind, life noticeably improved. Now level 4. Decked out in full cloth and 2 backpacks. Loot a small bag. Hell yeah. Lootwhore the hell out of the zone with new backpacks and rusty weapons. Still no pvp action. Good, I suck. Sell everything, buy level 5 spells. Furor, root, gate, rest of shit too expensive. Ready to defend myself against onslaught of griefers.
Tired of Steamfont, run to gfay, hear an orc hill group is forming. Excellent. Told group xp bonus is enormous. Don't want to run back from Steamfont if dead so ask Swaglord, Iksar Necro for a bind. He says "no fuck you" then "come to noob". Not sure if trolling or binding. Goto lift anyway, he binds me, cautions "Watch out, Leduke is here". Make it to orc hill, see corpses of person I was talking to and friend. Panic and run back to lift. Ask them what happened, sure enough "Leduke, ranger with Lammy, red con, impossible".
Rally the group, they want to goto Crushbone. Advise them against it and we decide to run to Steamfont. On way there, Leduke spotted near Felwithe. Red con. He doesn't see me. Pray and run to lfay. Think we are safe and then Pained unicorn wrecks my dark elf friends. Laughter, it's indifferent to me. Thanks Brell. Beat them to steamfont, grind to 5. New spells amaze me. Ready to ward undead. Kobolds til 6 with group then skeletons and giant rats. Experience is incredible in group. Never solo again. Still no action but 2 new names show up. Group says one is high shadowknight, other must be the porter. We are safe. For now.
Get 8. 3 levels in 1 hour. No more bad mana regen, get new heal. Still no pvp but ready for it next time, dreading at same time. Server seems healthy. Some griefers, not unexpected. Low level group easy to find, group members very pleasant. Watch out for each other. Staying off beaten path advisable. Few hours on server already made handful of friends. Low population but server has high character and lots to experience. Excited for more.

Not much time to play. Play anyway. Log on, feeling strong, level 8. Try to solo even con skelly via undead nuke. Get wrecked. Cloth armor not so good. Dead. Good thing no pve ratio on red. Lose level. Bad start. Remembered I vowed never to solo.
Tail between legs. See that friends are on, send tell. They higher than me now but still in grouping range. Friends getting griefed in CB. Laughed. Ask them just how bad it is. "Fungi twinks, epic'd rogues." Ok pretty bad. More experienced than me but still going to Top 5 pvp hotzone and wondering why dead. Blamed healer too. Laughed again. Never their own fault for going to CB.
Convince them to come to Steamfont, we steamroll harpies and minotaurs. Exp flying again in group, lots of gems and coins. Get level 9 and some. I'm happy again. Can finally root again and new hp buff. Pve isn't so bad. Group gets bored, not enough to kill. Thinking about new spots. Can't do CB. Can't do unrest. Unless want epic'd and fungi twinks. Don't want that. Scratching head - never not leveled there. Thinking outside box now. Like whole new game. Even antisocial griefers serve valuable purpose in ecosystem. Take wolves out and all of a sudden server no longer red.
Head to lfay bandits and Nybrights. Only done these once before, in 1999 as wood elf druid. Lots of memories. Don't remember zone well but finally get there. Start killing, tons of exp and bronze weapons. Loot so much i can barely move. Looking at inventory. Begrudging choice of gnome, must have been drunk creating character many years ago. Low wis, low str, low sta. No jump roll. Now know why never seen a gnome cleric. But can see through walls and harder to target in mass pvp!
Someone messages me, met in other game ForumQuest. Says he will help. Tell him where we are, ogre named Bird shows up. Funny only met evil races so far out here. Antonica may really be dead. Getting some buffs. Ogre says, "stand and receive". About to get something awesome. But life never easy on red. Out of nowhere barbarian rogue Fapster shows up, doesn't say anything, only laying serious waste to new friend, backstabbing for hundreds, friend forced to flee. Hope he's ok. No time to meet again but appreciate the buffs. Have to go soon.
Make it to level 10, bid farewell to group. Gate back to noob lift, slowly crawl to bank. Selling my bags of weapons to merchant so can move faster. Paranoia that someone lying in wait for me to finish then kill me and take my coins. I would be if I could. Maybe. Never experienced this on blue. Make it to bank. 20 plat now. Riches beyond belief. New spells within grasp. Still no pvp but seen enough firsthand. No rush to experience it now. Sure it will be soon. Inevitably.

Never solo again.
Honestly, this.
People who turn up and try to solo in Tox aren't going to enjoy life. Nektulos/Freeport/EC area, or BB/Steamfont/Gfay area is best...with some activity in Blackburrow/Qhills but not as often.

There is also a leader board that records every kill so you can see where the hot spots are in case you are looking for or trying to avoid PvP.

Red leader board site also good for looking up peeps who show up in zone. If they have 0 kills, then no worries.
Number one word of advice...make friends.
Can go to popular zones with group of friends. Could lead to some fun 6v1 pvp vs
a twinked ganker.
Don't get your jimmies too rustled if someone kills you. Be cool and you might
make a new friend out of it.

Long break. Much needed vacation. Wasn't sure if I would return. Returned - testament to fun and excitement of server. Even though writing this while being bind point farmed. Cold blooded wood elf "guards" care not about gnomes. Might be fun to raise wood elf faction to surprise would be attackers. Perhaps next chapter!
Look for group. None around. Check out Crushbone against all my better judgment. While solo. As a cleric. With no gear. Spirit of red right? No one here except some HOLOCAUST dudes. Try to talk to one of them and see what's going on. No response. Must be too busy holocausting or whatever people do on red.
Run around trying to kill some blues. Cleric in full cloth and cracked staff sucks. I may have forgotten that. Eventually run into a bard and enchanter. Lower level than me but friendly and we get on to killing. Group has absolutely no dps. Still vastly outperforms solo xp. Bring on the bards with rusty weapons and no dual wield!
Midway through group bard says "brb looting castle". Not sure if an elaborate trap but I follow anyway. Need spell money. Get to castle and entire place has been murdered, orc corpses everywhere. Greed overtakes and all of a sudden incredibly overweight. According to group, holocaust member to thank. Ironic as I thought they were in business of pvp not pve.
Good time for group to break anyway. Can barely move so do bank run and back to lfg. Nothing this time so boring solo chapter in Butcherblock begins. Chessboard too hard, full mana bar to kill any blue. Not great so wait around hoping for group again while slowly soloing - seems even solo xp faster here. Evocation 50! Alteration 21! Server really is pretty fast.
Played a lot so next chapter coming but not written yet. Best chapter yet, promise, First pvp skirmishes and death! This is starting to get fun.

Back in Crushbone. Part 2. Last venture went well so enter foolishness and bravado. But more lazy than foolish, perhaps this is how wolves get prey. Run around looking for group again and meet some folks from earlier except now they brandish a shiny new guild tag. SLAMDUNKATRON. Interesting. Guild names more inventive here than blue. Chat with them and eventually invited to group. Looks like another ragtag group but beauty of red, no one cares, just get 6 able bodies and go to work.
Things looking up again in Crushbone. Xp flying, coins and loot all over, no griefers in sight. Then first newcomer arrives, Redgrocer, announces his presence and I prepare. Have to assume worst case scenario. Lucky this time, seems to be high druid. Buffs us and spot heals. Genuinely nice folk around it seems. Xp still flowing, time passing by, Redgrocer cracks a few jokes, "WTS Knuckle Sandwiches", etc.
Group keeps on getting levels, up to 12 now for me. Plan our move into the dreaded castle. What could possibly go wrong. Nothing it seems. Ding 13, ding 14. Not much to report. Accidentally nuke tank instead of heal, friendly fire! Glad nuke only does 19. Tank sure was nervous. Good laugh. Wishing I had brought new spells, didn't realize full group so fast for xp. Get a full castle pop pull and we're blasting away at it. Mezzes, roots, heals, adds. Going great.
Then it happens. Right in the middle. Perfectly executed. Ugly troll (any other kind?) in full plate bearing name of Cornhole smashes in. B lining for me. No time to con. Mashing root, resist, flash of light, resisted. Troll has prepared well. Have to use size to advantage. start running around table in castle room. Tiny gnome hard to get to amidst chaos. Weaving between mobs, keeping table between us, distance too. Group bears in on her, have to DA. Pulse racing, bravely tank while entire group tries to kill. Finally troll gives up and forced to flee. Good battle fought, 1v6 and none of us in any shape to give chase I think, as bloodthirsty bard goes after Cornhole. Doesn't manage to kill, but not surprised. Glad bard didn't die. Thing was beastly tank.
Group settles back in to grind. Feeling good, survived first gank, strength in numbers. Redgrocer shows up again, buffing and healing once more. Back into good xp groove. Few guys leave group but we feel confident, new levels under belt, defended territory. Unstoppable. We stay, clear a big pull and it happens again. Oom and low hp this time. Out of nowhere, ranger and a rogue appear. Rooted. Backstabbed. But not giving up. Land flash of light on ranger, rogue still zeroed in on me. Root gone. Dead. At least it was quick.
Running back, rogue waiting for me at next lift over. He seems noble, not attacking me. "Nice fight" he says. And it was. Can't be mad at them for providing entertainment. Make way back to castle. No signs of either ranger or rogue so back to it we go. Going well then more show up. But they aren't after us. It's Redgrocer's turn. Godzila, a monk runs in, gets sitting blow on poor druid, boom 150 health gone. Doing best to heal him but light healing only go so far. Godzila's friend comes. Redgrocer fighting back but sadly outmatched. Nothing we can do to help and down he goes. Godzila says, "my ranger's regards".
Pvp definitely serious business. Nothing quite like it.

For some reason the voice in my head as I read this was Bruce Willis from Sin City. Made it better.
Old ranger dies, new Cleric lives.
Fair trade.
I actually read it in more of a Rorschach voice, but I think Bruce Willis works better.

Little time to play. Small update. Still exciting. Server does not disappoint.
On late. Skipped playing a few days. Friends all 20+ now. Sad. Best weapon in arsenal was long list of friends in level range. Head to crushbone yet again. In perfect pvp range now for griefers but hope less on late at night. Group up with mage I met before, strange forgot to add him to friend list before. Add him now. Add everyone from now on! Only 2 of us in zone. Perfect.
Start off doing usual spots. Some mobs green but still give xp. Lots of xp. Again have to mention how fast server is. Killing everything outside of castle now. New person in zone who group doesn't know. Funny how fear of unknown worse than actual griefer. Med up just in case. Hear Orc trainer describing his hatred for our kind from afar. Time to check in on newcomer.
Stealthily make way up hill, careful to avoid being spotted. Too late, mob and new person both gone. Note to self to camp shield later. Kicking self for having forgotten about it. Huge magic save would be immense. Head back down to castle, now notice Emperor Crush meeting his demise. Also con new person, red and out of range. Phew. Second note to self, Crush's tunic need to be acquired sooner rather than later. As if this zone designed with pvp server in mind!
Grinding it out awhile. Clear surrounding castle. Decide to breach the castle duo. Have lull so not too worried. Things going well, legos, emissaries, warlords refusing to drop bracer, oracles all dying. Guess orcs sent word though. New challenger arrives. Announces presence saying, "I AM HERE TO DEFEND THE ORC CASTLE" or something similar. Forget exactly. Point made. Doesn't seem to bode well for us. Use magical gnome xray power and scout through the castle walls. Window nearby but more fun this way.
Dark elf named Baee running toward castle. We make exit from castle just in time. Baee even con, wielding 1h mace, assume SK. No fun in running when 2v1 so group dueling a bit. Lots of roots, blinds, nothing landing. Nothing left to do but let mage try to kill and heal while out of sight. Seems to be stalemate until mage zones. Says pet somehow warped and training him. Now 1v1 no chance so forced to zone.
Play zone dance game awhile. Boring. Could run to guards. Also boring. Hatch new amazing plan. Going to train her with entire castle. Sure to work. Time tested tactic. Let her beat me up a bit in cb zone, then start running toward castle. Resisting snare few times helps. Reveling in glory of my plan, dark elf still giving chase. Excellent. Make it deep into the throne. Health dropping fast. 100% to 30% in matter of seconds. Uh oh. Rethinking merits of plan but knee deep in it now. Stunned too with Baee whacking me. Mashing DA fast as possible. See beautiful all caps INVULNERABLE messages spamming across screen. I win!
But spam keeps happening to me. Something wrong. Orcs still hitting me instead of enemy. No time to think. Running fast as possible to zone. Somehow must have lost her. No snares being cast. Stamina almost empty. Make it to zoneline, but sure she is right behind me. Chase not over. Only real safety by guards, hoping a dark elf doesn't have that faction. Would be truly impressive. Again moving fast as I can and make it to guards, despite few stuns from orcs picked up along way. Check players in zone. No signs of her.
Explain chain of events to group. Mage laughs, "She has max orc faction"
Oh.
Forgot lengths people go to here just to grief. Should've known better.

Man I love your stories.
Dark elves start off non KoS in Crushbone. Aggro works differently on this server from live.
I remember one instance from live that might help explain. I was a cleric in guk and a ganker zoned in and tunnel visioned me. I ran from frenzie to lord and then jumped down into the pit trap with this ganker following me and frogs beating on me. Then I hit my invuln and 10 mobs switch agro from me onto the ganker. Ganker tries to run to zone while I camp my aggro.
Here the mobs would keep trying to hit me even though I am invuln and the ganker would never receive aggro transfer unless he was sitting.
