GMs: Walk Away.

This is in response to the GM event on Red, but its also stemmed from me seeing the GMs struggle at being constantly scrutinized, and Rogean's post about not critiquing the staff.

There is a lot of interest in growing red, increasing the population, and "fixing" the community. The problem with this is that, as evidenced by the event, the ass-hats rule the server. Ban Nihilum, Azrael becomes Nihilum, and the beat goes on. The beauty of a PvP ruleset is that it is supposed to give the player base tools to resolve their conflict through the game interface, not lawyerquest on the forums over FTE. The ugly reality is that those who strive to dominate and destroy their competition ultimately succeed in gaining an advantage because they are ruthless. Until this cycle of power is broken, Red server will never change its way. What Red needs is a resistance. A group of players dedicated to improving the quality of the server, fighting the ass-hats, and recruiting and helping new players enter and enjoy the server. Until this happens red will continue to be a cesspool, and I honestly don't believe its worth your valuable time. The odds are this never happens, but the playerbase itself is the only thing that has the power to change the playerbase. Its likely to end in another Nihilum -> Azrael power shift, and the cycles will continue. But have faith, and keep your hands off of it. Let it sift its problems out itself, because continuing to devote energy to it is only hurting the cycle in the long run.

I strongly recommend that you offer minimal CSR support to red, let it become a troll fest, let it get WORSE, because either the server will atrophy, run off a large portion of the population, and ultimately put itself in the perfect situation to remove it and replace it with teams PvP/Wipe it clean.
OR
A group of people will stand up, because the conditions are so terrible, and fight the powers that are entrenched, and while they may be constantly down trodden, trolled, and defeated, but there is also hope that they can overcome. This hope may draw new players, this rally around cleaning up the server from the playerbase, the necessity of charity to your fellow players in order to assemble and fight the entrenched powers.

Either way, I highly recommend that you attend to the Golden Child blue, and walk away from the red-headed bastard step-child Red. Who knows in 25 years it might actually mature into a self sustaining server, capable of resolving its own conflicts without GM intervention. It may also cripple itself from its toxicity, and leave you no other choice but to put it down. But ultimately your not going to fix the server, the server must learn to fix itself.

tl;dr
GMs disown your bastard child, throw it out of the house, and let it starve on the streets for a while, it will be good for it.

You sound like a new player. Azrael isn't "dominating the competition" and hoping they quit much like the 50+ man 12 hour zerg that Nihilum pulled week after week until Nizzar's first ban.

The most we've had on a single raid that I was at was 27. We have left dragons up for days and no one has tried to take them but one single Faydadar by Blaze.

Holocaust was never going to contest anyways. I like Colgate, hes a pal, but someone who logs in for 1 hour a day 2 days a week won't be helping anyone get pixels. And we all know the ex-Nihi members have no comprehension or leadership skills thus why the big resurgence of players after Nizzar came back and Willan was no longer leading.

I truly hope to see Blaze and Red coming to contest soon. They have similarly sized forces, will make for some great PvP.

Also, seems like an Agatha alt account that is crying about petitions against him. But thats just usual shit.

This statement is a simple easy out as to why GMs had to kill the guild that was ruling the server, as the rest of you could not do it. You DO have the right to say Nizzar was banned for cheating as much as you can say that for Sektors, but saying that about the ENTIRE Nihilum guild is silly. Take the blinders off~

Tune eating multiple suspensions for, exploiting, training, and account stripping, narrowly avoiding ban. And that's just the shit they were caught for.

Man, I loved the no-rules frenzy of SZ and was an SZ purist---trained the crap out of people, exploited charm-burning to rock evil raids on my neut bard, trained the crap out of evil raids in WW, got bind-camped for 10 levels, etc---but it an't the only way to do PvP.

If there's a spectrum worth noting, red/blue is only one axis of it, and that axis is orthogonal/unrelated to the bannability of exploits and corpse-camping/bind-rushing/etc axis. You can have blue servers where people are encouraged to sit mobs on top of their enemy guilds' binds, say, weird as that'd be.

Maybe Red should be a bit closer to the free-range end of things than Blue, but Red and exploit-and-be-a-dick-to-the-max are not the same thing, despite that being the most commonly observed red culture.

This server seems to basically boil down to dick over as many people as possible while still maintaining a loyal crew that will back you up against 60% of the server. Unfortunately the gms have to hand hold here because there is 4 ass holes to every decent player. Without the decent people the ass holes don't have a reason to log on.

I wasn't trying to describe our player bases general behavior. I was just commenting on the OP talking about wanting GMs to be hands off. I think a lot of long term PvPers would enjoy this but it would scare off a lot of blue players from coming over.

Whether or not the rules bend towards a blue or red mentality I agree with you and Syft about the community having a bad vibe and that it consists of people willing to break rules such as RMT and exploits. Don't know what you can do about that.

Not sure if people are denying that we had a shady history on some people in Nihilum, including leadership, im not. For me that was not why the guild banning feels wrong. I'm fine with Nihilum getting disbanded, IF it didn't feel completely one sided.

There is a lot more people here with a shady history who's punishment compared to that Nihilum got is close to noting. I can make a fairly decent list of members in Azrael who's done very bad on a number of occasions.

Add that to things like 1 day suspensions for training our raids when a GM is watching, how GMs gave the first PD to Azrael after they trained themself twice(GM resses on their clerics). And many more similar situations where GMs has been very afraid to punish the resistance and even assisting them. In fear the little end game competition there was, would end i guess.

Regardless how i look at it, there is no way the GMs didn't WANT to disband Nihilum. Which i won't deny might be good for the server for a few months, but it's hardly a fair judgement compared to everything else that goes on here.

I joined Nihilum while Azrael was killing dragons. When I first joined Nihilum was losing the fights and Nizzar wasn't even playing. I was pretty neutral with the Azrael vs Nihilum feud and just picked a side to jump in and fight.

You are using bans on blue as evidence to your shitty claim? Vaporize not getting banned as more evidence? You have a list of 5 toons in a guild that was well over 300 in the time it existed.
