Ive recently stumbled across the site, and having been a former EQ beta tester and player for the first few years of the game i cannot wait for my chance to step back in time and play the game before it became to diluted. Since i ordered my EQ platnuim version online during the holiday season, i find myself with alot of time to lurk on the boards, I was wondering if i might of played with any of the people here. So i thought i would start a thread on when and where people played.

I was a DE Necro (Dreyn)on Rallos Zek at the time of the games release to about 9 months after release and a human monk (Pewj) on Lanys server when the server first opened and played there till the game DAOC came out.

I now play a mage to outfit a soon to be named melee for Kunark. I will obviously play my mage through Kunark, but I enjoy melees and Kunark is a melee playground.

Dabbled with mainly a bard the first couple of years, but my wrists didn't enjoy song twisting. Main from 2004 was a Mage called Zasbus, same as the one I play here (but only level 9 so far).

I played on Vazaelle from just before Velious was released until the servers were merged and Vazaelle became Maelin Starpyre (right around when DoD was released I think) - at that point my druid main was level 70 and I had raided everything up through Gates of Discord.

After a year plus "retirement," I came back, leveled my druid up to 75, and joined a guild I was familiar with from my early days on Vazaelle. We raided 3 days a week and, though we were behind the top raiding guilds on the server (most notably Triality), we still made pretty good progress. When I finally retired from live in October of 2008, my guild had just finished TSS and was breaking into Solteris in TBS.

My druid was level 80 with around 1000 AA's, Seeds of Destruction was about to be released, and I had definitely had enough of EQ in its current form. My fondest EQ memories occurred in the early days, up through Luclin, and I'm happy to have found a place where I can relive some of them.

Both were on Eci. Never left or anything. Monk was really just a screw around char and a havefunletsFD character when i got bored with the Druid. Druid was kind of my thing, i think part of the reason i never had much fun in other MMO's is because there aren't druids like everquest druids. One of a kind.

Played on Inny in 99' then got myself homeless a few months afterword and started playing again between SoV and SoL on CT. Over the years I had a stupidly high number of alts on multiple servers, but the three muns that stand out the most are my first character in EQ, a WELF RNG I leveled to 17 before I encountered that whole cardboard box thing. My WELF DRU on CT that was 52 or 53 when I quit, and my IKS MNK Genkakushi, who was 65 w/ some odd 200 AA when I stopped playing a couple of weeks after GoD came out.

I was a member of a number of guilds on CT, including Heralds of the Gods, Friends Infinity, Musei Ronin, Council of the Grey, and Crimson Talon*. Crimson Talon was the only serious raiding guild I ever joined, and to this day when I have really bad withdrawals from EQ, and am really really drunk, I show up on their forums to congratulate them on their latest victories, while lamenting my constant absence from the game. (I'm quite positive any members in the guild that may remember me undoubtedly hate me by now because of it!)

Prexus - Started sometimes early 2000, not sure of the date. Made it to 65, ogre shaman, Pertti surname-changed-frequently-enough-once-that-was-allowed. Pertti Pig originally. Wanted Pertti Da Pig, but, well, yeah. A thing I regretted alot. =p

That was about it. One toon exclusively all the way until, I think 2006, then I stopped getting online as frequently. I'd admit that during those years, I was possibly one of the slowest people to level up in this game. Ever. When Kunark came out, I was in late teens. When Velious came out, I was mid 20s. But Qeynos and Kelethin/Felwithe were ally to me (while Grobb and Neriak were both KOS xD)... I seriously spent months lollygoggling in Blackburrow and Crushbone. And running about everywhere. Picked the game again 2007, tried a while and made a few levels and AA's, until I rage-quit as I finally got fed up with not being able to keep up with any of the new expansions and new gear -things, so I quit. LDoN was last expansions I bought, and the last one I actually enjoyed. =<

Loving p1999. I thought I'd enjoy it for a day or two in name of novelty, but judging from the way I can stomach 5 deaths in a row trying to take down a blue-con ranger-npc with my SK, I guess I'll be fine off for weeks and months to come. =p

On Torvo, I was Inigo, HEF rogue. This first name was changed later to Vennjinze because (as you will no doubt remember) our server GM (Salvatore I think?) had the surname I wanted (Montoya). So thereafter I was Vennjinze Venomspirit - till 53/epic pre-velious (EBAYED).

Then I decided to come back to EQ, rolled on Torvo again, and played an Enchanter named Ishka Bibble. I played Ishka till 63? pre-pop, and gave the acct to my brother (Ulatec the Wizard).

I was in <Fist of Iron> on Vennjinze and Ishka, but then after they stopped raiding, <Gift of Thought> (on Ishka, during their later incarnation), and <Blood of the Phoenix> (again, the later incarnation).

around the end of Luclin I left the game for a while, and came back shortly after planes of power was released. I wasn't a huge fan of flagging for every freakin zone, and lasted about 2 months of that expansion.

Then from 03-04 * i think ? * I played an Iksar beastlord Javx, with the same guild on Rodcet Knife.

This was around the time of Ldon, which was pretty neat, and I managed to hit the level cap by the time gates of discord came out. The game just lost it's flash to me, and I left for good about 2 months into the raid scene on that expansion and haven't been back to Norrath till now.

Essentially the entire guild gave up on the game after Gates of Discord was released. Progression was halted due to bugs and serious imbalance of raid zones. I believe it was Uqua that was the final blow.

Told the boss I'm leaving work early today soon as best buy called and said they had EQ on the shelf and wouldn't be back for a few days....Looking back now I can't believe I still had a job when I came back.

Started off with 1 account, first worked up a 39 wizard then switched and made a druid to 50. Somewhere around 2001-2002 I bought 3 more.

Ended up with 65 bard, rogue, Enchanter and Druid with 100's of AA's before it was all over.

I started about 2 weeks before Kunark was released. Originally I was on Drinal, had a 50 Warrior named Klattu (couldn't get Klaatu, lol), and a Druid named Tenuvan Stormwolf. After the release of Luclin I was less than thrilled, so didn't play much until Stromm was opened up, where I leveled a mage named Vezarus to 65 in about 3 weeks, and was part of Lost Sock Patrol.

Got tired of the raid demands and switched to PvP...played tons of characters on Sullon Zek. Started evil but soon switched to the underdog team (gogo good team!). Most fun I ever had on live.

Having a great time here...watching some of you guys level so fast is amazing. (Hello Burple and Freddy! Htf do u guys do it, lol.)

Came back from college in the autumn of 1999 to find my best friend playing a DE cleric in a group on the orc highway. Told me he was going to take a dump, made me sit in and taught me quickly how to cast heals and that was all. Thought it was the stupidest thing I ever did.

Flash foward 3 months, I'd met some random stranger at school who told me about a new game he was saving up to buy, EQ, and talked my ear off for days. I bought it, found out it was the same game, and had no idea why my friend was a dark elf cleric. Because I was a wood elf ranger!

My friend dropped out of college to play in his parent's basement until luclin came out, then quit because the game seemed ridiculous (for in-game reasons, though he spent years explaining why the mechanics of the game were the true dealbreakers for him - he wanted dynamic, world-changing content).

I accelerated my courses and took my bachelor's and THEN sat in my parents' basement playing. For years!

Then i got a great job, moved out, and kept playing! Then i went to law school! And kept playing! Then stopped. Bought a ps3 to scratch the itch (unsuccessfully). Now i'm finishing law school, and playing again! With my wife! Ha!

I lead a guild through the PoP era, I threw my first character (that ranger) down The Hole, i saved whole raids as an enchanter, i camped the goblin skull earring for 40 hours FOR FUN, i must have earned over 3k AA's spread across the toons, and i learned over a dozen pieces on the piano IRL while LFG.

Yes, that's pride mixed in with the abject shame of having spent so much of my late teens and early twenties in a video game.

I played a high elf enchanter as my main for the duration of my eq career. I started during Velious shortly before Luclin came out and played on Xev and Brell.

I started loosing interest around GoD and straight up quit shortly after OoW. I was 65 until they raised the level cap with OoW and I started to see the rest of my life flashing before my eyes.

I dinged 66 shortly before quitting. I had somewhere between 150 and 200 AA points. I had a ton of great times raiding with this character but my guild never managed to break in to PoTime before I quit.

I had an alt halfling warrior which I also got to 66. The highlight of this character's career was leveling up almost exclusively in LDoN dungeons to the point where I could do hard difficulty blindfolded (not really) and I got to (succesfully) tank Terris Thule at level 63 because my gear was better than the level 65 tank in the raid and there was nobody else available.

I started playing just after the release of Velious. I remember having a hard time choosing whether or not I should just buy Velious off the bat or not. I ended up putting it back on the shelf, only to run out and buy it in a few days due to the UI changes.

My first character was a dwarf paladin named Holgrad on the Prexus server. I played him to level 51. Quested and RP'd with him a lot. I needed a change of pace and my brother and I talked my dad into starting a new character. We wanted him to have the feel of being a newbie, so we decided to roll on a completely different server so that way we were all forced to start over and the possibility of twinking wasn't available.

So, about 4-5 months after Luclin launch... me, my dad, and my bro all rolled gnomes on Drinal. Enchanter (me), cleric (dad, Ernee Tinkerton) and warrior (bro, Valdrok Tinkerton). I faintly recall first rolling a cleric and leveling to 5 but ended up rerolling as the chanter.

It was great having the 'holy trinity' ready and waiting at a moments notice. We only really played on Tuesdays as it was the only night we could all get together, but we made the most of the time we spent online. I experienced so much more with my dad and bro than I ever did with my paladin because played together, and stuck to dungeon leveling. I know it's a little corny but we called ourselve the "Gnome Squad" and we all shared the same last name of Tinkerton. Some of the best times were had in Mistmoore, Unrest, SolA, Guk and even ToFS. Infact we spent close to 15 levels in ToFS alone. I also recall getting close close to 3 levels in 1 night (4-5 hours) in SolA. Infact I think my bro did get 3 levels, he always did level quicker since he was the warrior. I could go on and on and on about all the good times we had & the great people we met along the way.

Then PoP came out (I think we were in our mid 50's at this time), things started to get shitty. GoD came out and things got even shittier, then we all left for WoW... which is shitty now.

Now I'm back and trying to talk them into coming back too :)

I began playing everquest. My very first character was a ogre warrior created December 12, 1999.

My first character of note to max level was my cleric, Docterz. I played on Cazic Thule with him in a guild Called The Relentless into early/mid POP. At this point a few real life friends jumped ship to move to Maelin.

While on Maelin server, i decided cleric was no longer for me, and i began my wonderful journey as a Human monk named Denon. Denon was played from PoP - Prophecy of Ro. I was in a guild named Assent until the release of Depths of Darkhollow. This is when I went soft on the game, and began wow'ing it up.

I started playing I guess around early 1999, I remember telling the guild then, that I was being induced for the birth of my son the next day, and playing all night, so I didn’t over-sleep and miss the appointment time...I mean who needs to be in hospital at 5AM!

I will always remember my first char and trekking from Qeynos to Freeport with my husband’s character, because we read that the xp was better. Not having a clue where we were heading. Several hours later and corpses lost to the area, we stumbled across a bridge, where a character asked if we wanted to be ported. We were like..wow people can do that, and sure enough ended up in Freeport after a little run from where we landed. No clue who that person was, but really appreciate the help there.

However, by now our characters much needed items were all lost, and as far as we were concerned we might as well delete and start again. So Opalie (Human Cleric) and Davior (Human Paladin) were created and YAY born in freeport. Both these became our mains eventually.

We met loads of characters, which we still consider to be friends to this day. Having met some in real life and others just talked to in tells. It is almost the only game that I have met people and not talked to them in years, and it still feels like yesterday.

In time some friends we had all met, joined together on Luclin to eventually form a guild called ‘Sods Law’. We weren’t really a raiding guild but did so every now and then. I became the guild leader from the start...well that was sure a headache!

When I relocated back to UK, I moved my cleric to Antonius Bayle, as the hours on Luclin server were no longer suitable. I think if I remember correctly she joined United Kingdom’s guild and we had a meet in Manchester (UK), great fun too.

By the time GoD was released, I really didn’t have the time or interest to grind levels, in what felt like the original feel of playing EQ had already been lost.

I played some WOW, both on the European and US servers. In time, personal circumstances and well just the simplicity of the game, did not hold a challenge and I kind of yearned for the old EQ...here I am today, look me up if you would like.

I have a multitude of chars on P99, my mains being Opalie (Cleric) – High Elf and Opalla (Magician).

Drazzit magician from Seventh Hammer, had to leave the server when a roommate/guildie went extra double loony. She got fired from her job and wouldn't leave her room except to go to the bathroom (I hope anyway) and after three months of not paying rent, I kicked her out (with a 30 day notice even) That turned me into one of the foulest, most despicable person ever, ruthlessly kicking her out of my house without warning, and she had no place to go, and dang it she was always on line to help out other guild members with anything, etc. etc. etc.

Sprengerae was my magician born on Brell after that debacle. He made it to 51 (with 18 AAs I think)

I was on Lanys as a high elf pally named Deolyen. The only people I remember playing with there was Devi/Kaio.

On Vazaelle I swas Caylan half elf warrior and Ploppy the froglok wizard. I was the 3rd or 4th froglok to make max level. I was with PO for awhile then I took a break from EQ and when I came back I just hung out with old friends and some CC folk. I transfered Ploppy from Vaz to Morden Rasp to play with Baldrik and Eaman for awhile until I got too busy for it again. Those were some fun times.

I started eq at the beginning of phase 2 beta. My friends were in alpha and I was one of their referrals.

I played through beta with a paladin (gnar) that got absolutely nowhere, and then switched to a troll shaman and finally a human rogue which I made some progress with (skinner).

I was wrong-headed about the game, and shunned all of my friends' attempts at getting me involved in raiding and group activities all throughout beta.

In final, we all went to mithmarr. My buddies were in successful raid guilds, and I was dicking around roleplaying and whatnot. Later, most of the folks I knew migrated to test where I recreated my rogue (skinner) and was moderately successful and focused.

Finally when kunark was released I created an iks warrior and really had my first truly gratifying experience with EQ. I levelled up, formed groups and made friends, and found people to team up with and became accepted as one of the better up and coming tanks.

I hit a serious slump after kunark and before velious because of a lack of available armor for iksar which hurt my contention for tanking in planes raids. Fortunately I was able to tag along and pick up some Legionnaire scale which bumped me close to par with other pre-pog/pre-kael armor MTs.

Probably the most fun I had in eq was the velious beta, which is my favorite expansion by far and of course was the expansion where verant removed the 'seperate loot for iks' which meant that I could participate in raids with an equal footing on dkp/drop rotation.

I started EQ just a few weeks before Kunark and quit just after my first Luclin Raid. Started with a mage (Maestron) then switched to enchanter (Fissel). I was in Revenants, Bruin's Marauders and Apex*. After way to much in guild drama I stopped guilding. I did OK on pick up raids and as filler with some guilds.

*I remember going through the applications for Apex. Having to group up with them to show I was a player of quality :). Very funny in retrospect. They were one of the better guilds on the server in 99/00. I even switched from mage to enchanter to be considered. never regretted that. Enchanter is a blast.

I rolled with HA from the days we starting in PoHAte and held through until ToV, end velious. Afterwards, I rolled with Kile, Archonilus, and Kathrea over to EQ2 then Vanguard. spent the rest of my EQlive time playing on rallos zek. mostly playing my ranger (akalakamelee) lvl'd him to 17 then delvled to 15 for some nice low end DW ganking =) i was pretty much done around luclin/PoP era, it was nice to port around to newb areas and kill people, but it became a "root before they get to the book" kinda thing...
