Naming Policy
Character names in EverQuest should be thematically consistent with the high-fantasy environment of EverQuest. These guidelines apply both forenames and surnames, and also to the combination produced by a forename and surname. (For example, the first name Clint and the last name Eastwood are both acceptable names separately, but Clint Eastwood is not.)

The server staff can, in accordance with all described rules and ultimate discretion, provide assistance with surname changes, including names with multiple capital letters and/or a single accent grave (`). Examples of this are Kirn V`Last, Harl McTarnigal, Leeza MacTeagan.

The server staff will be happy to change your surnames on request, however we will not provide forename changes unless the name violates the naming policy.

The following names are considered unacceptable.
Vile, profane, rude, or racist names including common swear words, anatomical references, racial slurs, and homonyms of these words.
Combinations of words that produce an offensive result (e.g. Hugeazz, Tug Mcgroin).
Names of religious, occult, or significant historic origin (e.g. Jesus, Allah, Satan, Stalin).
Copyrighted or trademarked names of products, characters, services, or concepts (e.g. Bigmac, Marlboro, Sony).
Names from popular media. These names can be either fictional (e.g. Rambo, Darthvader) or non-fictional (e.g. Garth Brooks, Pierce Brosnan, George Washington, Michael Jordan).
Common words and phrases that would not be found in the time, place and setting of EverQuest (e.g. Switchblade, Phaser, Toaster, Cannabis).
Proper names from EverQuest (e.g. Rathe, Karana). This also includes the first or last name of any significant EverQuest NPC (e.g. Dorn, Trumpy, Karn).
Any form of a name similar to current or past Project 1999 Staff (e.g. Nilbog, Rogean, Sirken).
Names chosen with the intent or possessed with the effect of harming the reputation of a player or Staff member.
Forenames containing titles within them, such as, but not limited to: The, Lord, Lady, Master, King, Knight, Sir, Father (e.g. Sirtallon, Lordeagle, Mothermaggy, Darksister).
Names that contain sentences (Ikillorcs), phrases (Ontop), or two or more words that do not form descriptive compound words (Petcarbob, Diediedie and Tablechair).
Descriptive compound words are allowed in first names and are encouraged in surnames (e.g. Treehugger, Giantslayer).
Descriptive compound words (each separate part of the word and the entire word) must otherwise adhere to all other naming rules.
Fantasy-oriented names which are easily recognized from popular existing media (e.g. Merlin, Gandalf, Drizzt).
Names where the combination of the first and last name forms a phrase or violate a previous rule (e.g. Crymea River, Bran Muffin, Story Thyme).
For all of the above, misspellings and alternative spellings (such as spelling it backwards) of the word or words are also unacceptable.
For all of the above, any foreign variations are also unacceptable. If a player petitions a name he or she feels is offensive in a foreign language, all rules set forth shall be applied.
Above all else, you may not choose character or guild name which, in the sole and absolute discretion of the Project 1999 Customer Service Staff, is deemed to be offensive or improper.

Yeah listing the server naming policy is great and all. But last night in MM there was a guy named Ghettopapasmurf Isthebestthinggoingtoday. So obviously the naming policy is a little fast and loose here anyway. A name like Deadpool is not outside of the reach of fantasy themed role playing as far as I'm concerned. I think its a cool name anyway and makes a lot of sense in my mind in a high fantasy game.

You know, I get the :classiccrusade: and all, but that's a beautiful example of flat-out brain-damage + self-hatred + shadenfreude all rolled up in a pathetic one-liner that contributes nothing constructive to P99, Norrath, or RL.

I'm sorry I just liked the culture of having people hang out in banks and spend time there reogranizing bags and talking and trading.

With our non-classic bank function people are in and out and you lose the social element of banking with your group :(.

After most dungeon groups we would port to Misty and bank in rivervale. That aside almost every time I went to the bank there was atleast one other person in the bank converting coin or shuffling quest items or CR gear around in their bank!

FIrst part true, who wanted to wait around while you re-org'd your bank shit? "OMG which bag did I leave that in?" (also, iirc, you had to right-click each item individually to get the name of it in classic UI) "WTF who's the asshat that trained the banker away I can't move with all this shit in my inventory" & etc. But there were casters that liked to hang out near banks and give out SoW/Skin/Bind/Clarity/trashloots to lowbies, often leading to guild recruitment pitches as you might expect. Also, players that hated gBay would auction their lewts at random times in other bank zones. Mostly the classic banking experience just sucked tho, especially after they nerfed leaving NORENT items in the bank to stop them from poofing when you logged (anybody else remember how magicians bitched about losing their lucrative bandage summoning practice?)

People hanging around banks was definitely classic, although I don't know if it was just because of the UI limiting your ability to move items around easily. I think a big factor was also that people didn't always feel the need to be doing something productive (like grind or camp something) while in game, and were happy to just hang out in city areas and be social.

I do remember running into people in pretty much every bank I used back then, although some were of course more busy than others. On Mithaniel Marr the Gfay bank always had several people, and the Qeynos bank had at least a couple others, as did Rivervale. I don't remember seeing too many people around the Kaladim bank though.

Of course, the North Freeport bank was THE place to be on our server, and usually had dozens of people in and around it. I still don't understand the appeal of EC as a trading zone, NFP was so much better.

^ so much classic in this post. Maximum Immersion level imminent.

But really, guide Ele would have far more classic issues to deal with. If I were a guide I don't even know where I'd start. But there are some names that I would nuke. Just last night I saw "Whoremother".

my life in EQ summed up :) and as far as the naming goes. Personally aslong as its not a offensive name then i really dont care. I like seeing actors/actresses/cartoon character names ingame. It's not like this is a RP server where everyone is roleplaying.

The one real name I didn't mind seeing was Osamabinladen getting killed by sealteamsix in a duel shortly after that happened. I forget what the exact names were. But that was some A+ stuff.

"Be the change you want to see in the world" - Gandhi

If you want to see Freeport bank trading center, start setting up there and encourage others to do the same.

I'm pretty sure thats what Gandhi was concerned with though. Location of trading centers in a 15 year old elf simulator.

Let's move the trading hub to nfp where it should be then you can circle jerk with ppl at the bank 24/7
