use a better browser and install adblock

or, let them display so admins can earn a tiny revenue from the few seconds it takes you to notice it. which in turn allows them to continue hosting / curating this sandbox they let us play and shitpost in

Mostly supports hardware costs, which have been out of my pocket for the last several years.

Donations are typically set aside for the monthly data center costs, only used for hardware once or twice.

Is there a way that the ads can be formatted to be the same size as the message board? It's fucking up the display at the moment for me.

Or....turn it off for people that are logged in.
Or....turn if off for people that donate via paypal.
Or....turn if off everywhere but the RnF forums / the post that is getting all the hits.

I didn't know it was possible not to beeline for adblock the first time you open a browser.

How well does Adsense pay just for pageviews? I've never monetized a site but had been thinking about it. I read you can get up to a dollar per thousand pageviews, but I assumed this would only be true when it's a thousand different people. I get like 1500 pageviews a day on the leaderboard so it's not really worth it, but the TMO website gets 5k to 10k pageviews per day, granted it's from the same handful of people. I sort of figure that when the same crew of 100 people are generating all the traffic and not clicking anything that you don't really get paid jack for it. Something with P99's amount of traffic, though, maybe you do?

You can disable adblock specifically for P1999 to help out the devs. I did. Right click that stop sign.

Average google adsense cpm (cost per 1,000 views) payout is under $3.00 for display ads, less than that for text. Getting higher cpm depends on the relevant content on your site, the category of ads you display, and your conversion rate.

And on a different note, really who gives a fuck about seeing these ads here? They're in the most unobtrusive spots possible, they help raise money, and it's not like these forums were a paragon of beauty without them.

But seriously thanks for being a brat, I wouldn't have known there were ads I needed to allow on this domain.

I don't think that would fly. If you look at RnF right now, almost every post is in violation of AdSense's content policy. Not really sure how these forums are allowed to use AdSense right now anyway seeing as how the main draw is technically adult content.

I dunno, look at the Sev thread last week... nothing in there but a lot of people arguing like kids over a toy, screaming at each other and to their parents for having it taken from them.

so if every person who logs into forums [modified out, sorry] on the 3 banner ad's every day... ad revenue would be pretty reasonable?

Rules for ads use says you cant tell people to [modified out, sorry] on ads...... first rule of fight club.... you dont talk about [modified out, sorry] ads, you just [modified out] them.

Also, google has algorithms of what you do after you [modified out, sorry] them. Stay on the new site for a couple seconds and scroll around, [modified out, sorry] around etc... or the [modified out, sorry] is dismissed as "invalid" which can lead to an account ban.

That's how my poor, poor macromeme lost the allegiances of the mighty Google.

The rules also state that the ads cant be on pages with adult content and the ads are in place because of adult content. All it takes is one troll to contact google and get the entire account closed so the admins might want to rethink how the ads are implemented.

Right now the return on Ad [modified out, sorry] is super high because of the "return to school" season.

Now the ads are getting me in trouble. My girlfriend asked why google is putting "date asian women" ads on the banner. I told her it is because my wife is asian, but she isn't buying it.

Tell her she'll get used to them after a while, they're only there if you choose to read and [modified out, sorry] :P

A few things:

I don't expect the ads to stay on the jlaw thread for long.
Furthermore, I plan to fine tune the ads so we can stop them from displaying on threads that violate the policy.
We have a few other ideas in mind to keep safe on the policy.

A single violation is not going to close the account. Typically they will warn (We used to get warnings a lot a few years ago). They want to make money too remember.

Is there an anticipated increase in server costs associated with the release of Velious?
