View Full Version : How are SKs on Red

Was thinking of making a toon on red to play around. And leaning toward SK. Questions:
1. Are tanks in demand on red? (Don't say every role is in demand)
2. How do SKs fare in pvp? 1v1 mostly
3. Will swish stop replying to my posts with bullying yet creative "try red" .gifs?
What are some other decent pvp classes that aren't gear dependent?

Sks do fine in pvp if geared properly. See beastagor for examples in his to do it right.

SKs are very fun to play and are very good in small sided pvp. not so much in large scale pvp. xp mod can make it so people don't want you in groups, but since the xp boost this has been much better. I do not recommend SK if you are new to the server.

I don't recommend starting A melee without some gear. If you have friends here maybe.

if your new to server you must start with a farming class. chanter, shaman, mage, necro.

I would roll farming class. As you will have a decent weapon to 50 but won't have any gear or be able to farm it solo

My first character was a farming class that got pwned in pvp over and over. Would recommend making an SK for your first character, especially if you can move cash over from Blue.

There is a massive shortage of active Necros here. They make a good farming class and are somewhat rare here. PvP wise they are toward the bottom but I need DMF from more people.

SKs are fantastic in 1v1 PvP. HT is like half your opponent's HP in an insta-click, and taps/DoTs/melee give you plenty of tools to do the first half
great in pick-up groups, good aggro + tankage
mediocre in raids both PvP and PvE. don't scale well w/ quantity

Also wanted to mention I beat a 55+ epic tstaff monk on vztz emulated with a half naker 52 Ogre SK with a mithril two hand sword. Didn't even use harmtouch and guy was geared to the teeth BiS. SK big time OP.

SKs are the ultimate clothie killer, but as soon as you come across a player that pre-buffs for pvp, the effectiveness of HT is negated. Almost everyone has HP buffs in the 60 pvp bracket due to the life of this server, meaning there are plenty of boxed clerics and chanters which people frequently use as buff mules.
Also unless you have golem wands, you aren't going to pell past anyone's clickies...

Play a Necromancer if you want to die to literally every class post 50. Some of them just hit one button over and over again, that's all it takes!

That's why Necros come with AoN skelly form ;)
Imagine if dots ticked for full and had dispell counters (I never could pell things like Winged Death in 1 pumice click back in the day) and lifetaps healed for the full amount like classic.... Nawwww, they might actually be a powerful class... Lets make druid and wizard nukes land for full damage on 100+ resist instead!

Lifetaps never healed for full on live, but yeah I don't see the wisdom behind DoTs being 2/3 damage and being easily dispellable.
I'm sure I'll get a right clickie that ignores all melee and DD damage.

Necromancers are sweet without shitty noob PNP policies. Training makes that class.

One of the best if not the best pvp melee classes. Great for twink pvp too. HT to snipe YTs.

LOL... until you use your second DA (quiverring veil of xarn) and get heal aggro.

SK is great in smaller scale pvp.
SK aint all that good in large pvp though.. rogues/monk/warrior much better. but you are also bottom of the totem pole in terms of priority for the opposing team (unless they know you are the main assist) so it means you get to actually fight the fight instead of getting blown up in the first minute of the battle.
the reason SK shine more in smaller pvp is you have utility spells/abilities. in large scale it's all about the assist train. but smaller is more fun (for me) because it's about using your skills to get to a group and fuck them up. this is great. you got fear (for pets as well as mobs..) FD, invis, ivu, a pet (rarely used), tankability and HT for blasting someone. lev, breath under water.. a LOT of utility. but only really useful in smaller skirmishes

...
.... Ok elaboration... Necros are clothies and are easy to squish, so what makes them a pro trainer? Being able to DA when the players try to break FD (due to ultra long FD cooldowns)...
Now... Necros have 2 DAs, but one of the 2DAs has a heal component... so if the opponent ignores the mobs and runs around, while waiting for DA to fade, the Necro may be forced to pop a 2nd DA depending on how geared their opponent is and how long they can tank the train... The moment the 2nd DA is popped the necro gets heal aggro because the 2nd DA has a heal component... This instantly transfers all hate from the person being trained back to the necro...
Does it make sense yet?
(I had Novus train me through a rooted mob, and he simply out tanked the first DA and I was forced to pop the 2nd DA which was a complete aggro transfer, tough way to learn how much it sux, Vexing Morodinia is in the same boat since it is a separate heal over time buff)...
