I do not play on Red, but i have been thinking about it, since their is always some post about "why don't you give it a try" and such. Is there a way to cap PvP encounters to withing 5 level, that is to say you cannot attack someone more than 5 levels below you.
I would be willing to play on Red if such a system was in place, that way i would know i had a chance, maybe even a chance to escape if i was losing.

Is their a mercy rule on Red?, or can a 60 go around killing lvl 1's. The reason i play on Blue, is i dont like always watching my back. I think such a system would increase the appeal of Red, and would make for better evenly matched encounters. Yes i know there is still the problem of getting gang banged, which will probably become common place or is already common. Still i think its a interesting thought, and just thinking of me as a level 1 getting into fights with other peeps of my level range all day, seems like a appealing thought.

red is already like this. the level limit is 4. you can only fight with someone within 4 levels of you.

4 level range with a couple exceptions for raid zones but that won't effect you until level 46+.

Also a policy in place that if you die you can ask the killer to let you loot and scoot and he cannot attack you if you agree to leave the zone for at least one hour. If the guy is nice who knows, maybe he will even let you stay.

If you don't want to loot and scoot and want to try to loot and kill the guy who killed you that is also an option.

If you die just don't get mad about it and if you are mad don't show it. Try to show some composure or you are going to have a bad time.

Dont waste your time if you arent already established on the server is my input. Its only a game and you have to pick one side or another for various reasons and people who take this shit way too serious will hold it against you and go out of their way to grief you. Pop is just toxic all around, with a few exceptions, youll thank me later.

The reason pop doesn't grow.

It has it's ups but ^ is pretty much 97% truth.

PvP is as such:

1-10 is open field but you level so fast thsi range barely counts

10-20 some decent pvp, encounter your first twinking around 20.

20-30 twinks twinks twinks, lots of PVP in this range

30-40 twinks twinks twinks, lots of PVP in this range

40-50 twinks twinks twinks, shit ton of PVP in this range

60 range: highlygeared raided toons fighting each other - you have very little chance unless in groups with highly geared raid toons. Smidgin of new players trying to get in on it.

Fun server but =)

Ahh, it makes so much sense now. So the starting appeal is there, but the end game is too harsh. Yeah i can see why it would be tough on someone to get to the higher level, and always be on the lookout for twinked players. Is the EC zone PvP? how do people sell to each other, this might solve the problem of being able to equip a toon to have a chance.

I guess the same issue remains, if you werent first to the party, it will not be fun for you. Still there may be people that could see it as a challenge, maybe. After what Farzo said, the appeal quickly wore off, 1 - 20 sounds interesting, but then being outgunned for the next 40 levels, i can see why peeps dont wanna play. In Blue 1 thru 60 is just a matter of time, in Red 1 thru 60 is time + resistance.

End game isn't too harsh if you put the work in. Farzo and Tradesonred joined the top zerg guild. Tradesonred got booted and Farzo was forced out when his dirty guild was disbanded. I wouldn't recommend listening to either of them. Server is fun if you do your own thing. Join a guild with people you like.

LOL at all the time you have spent and threads you have created telling people not to play here when you dont play here either. How long have you been doing this? Well over a year? How bout get a hobby you enjoy.

You are a huge fgt.

Cool, lets tell people not to play here before they even try. Sounds like a great way to get people on the server.

OP, level range is +/- 4, and we have a loot and scoot policy to protect you from being killed over and over. You'll want to review the pvp specific rules stickied at the top of this page. Don't listen to the handful of naysayers - if you're interested in red, try it - you will likely be pleasantly surprised.

My comment wasn't meant as a deterrent btw!
Server is fun as hell, just don't come in expecting to be a PvP Champion till you have a twink alt sorta thing. EQ PvP is 99.99% gear dependent, the .01% is people knowing the mechanics and playing the right class. I suck at PvP, I don't play the right class.

Like you said "I guess the same issue remains, if you werent first to the party, it will not be fun for you. Still there may be people that could see it as a challenge".

The challenge is gearing up to complete - it's fun though I have a twink alt I level/mess around with and having gear makes 99.99% the difference. There is a sub level 52 group of people that just PvP in that range because it's more balanced in the sense that someone can twink out a 52 quicker then raiding a 60 toon.

Expect 100% Drama, and 100% Lies thrown your way.
i.e like this Eslade dude trying to twist an event that happened on the server the other day =P

So you stayed in nihilum when it was disbanded? Cool story bro.
People in rags can compete, it just takes learning from your ass beatings. Like I said, do your own thing and hang out with the people you like and you'll love this server.

Most importantly don't hang out with constant rule breakers, it doesn't end well for you.

The +/- 4 is very appealing, Gear will always be an issue if you dont have the time to farm Plat. On Blue i have made like 50K, and that was mostly during a time when i was playing a lot. Still for all that plat, a planar armor set would be better than what i have on right now, shows the power of raiding. It is mostly my fault, as i wanted to solo a character to 60.

I think Red is really more suited for those peeps who are type A Gun Ho kinda players. Players who want to climb the mountain, and like Conan said " crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women". If you are a casual player, Red might not be appealing, since you dont want to spend so much time doing something, but not moving very far. Like i said Blue 1-60 is a matter of time, Red is Time + Ressistance.

Still if you want to beat your chest, winning on Red sounds like a great idea.

As forum posts go: if you see a post by Derubael (or some other GM), pay attention to it. Aside from that, be selective; there is a lot of noise on these forums -- and in OOC on this server -- and very little signal. It can be entertaining, or depressing, depending on how you take it.

Anyway, in addition to what Deru said:

I am a person who has never had a post-47 toon on this server. I think I will soon have one in that range, though; this is largely because of the recent, huge group-EXP bonus. Makes EQ leveling rate tolerable despite real life occurring, *and* has had an obvious impact in making 1-50 groups much easier to acquire.

I also think Red99's population has become less toxic since the last time I played (a year-ish ago). I have no idea why this is, though group exp + PnP both seem like obvious options. It has not hit everyone; I've had a few folks (names and guilds redacted, though they are prominent and frequently playing folks) specifically grief me in my 30s, KS'ing stuff for no reason other than that they could. But, by-and-large, the server no longer reminds me of Sullon Zek (absolutely no-rules EQ server, which I played on back in the day). In fact, very often now people seem to voluntarily point out PnP rules in /ooc to help folks who do not understand them, and on very rare occasions people even show up to help fight against the CB/UR/MM/CoM twinks.

Anyway, I think you can totally enjoy yourself on red. It deserves more than 200 people! I think your fun-times will be maximized if you devote a fair amount of time to organizing groups for unusual dungeons, and avoiding the easy dungeons where twinked-out PKs generally screw with people. When I have done that, I have never run into any meaningful problems.
