View Full Version : Blue: fine, Red: perpetual 1017

I just reinstalled and can connect to the blue server fine everytime, but when I try to play on red I just get a 1017. Are there extra files I need for the red server? I didn't see anything listed on the install guide and I cannot remember if I need to do something different.

this is a goddamn injustice. no wonder why red pop is so low all the time.

I know it used to be a thing that you had to connect to blue (after installing) before you could connect to red, but after that first time it should be fine connecting to red every time.

Have you tried any of the non-P99 servers in the list? "The Hidden Forest" etc? Just to see if it isolates just the red server as the issue.

Good thought. Just tried it and connected to EZ server and THF with no problems as well, but still no luck with red.

1017 is always a connectivity problem. Some router, somewhere along the route from your machine to R99 is timing out.

Is red not hosted in the same location as the blue server?

it is. 1017 is a server side issue, aka the server thinks ur chars stuck in game somewhere

Does this shed any light on anything? I tried pinging that IP and didn't have any problems though. I also tried plugging my computer directly into the modem but no luck either, so I guess it's not a wireless router problem.

I hate playing on blue :(

make a brand new eqemu account from scratch, then try using that new account to play on red with.

Well with the new account I'm getting a different error it looks like when trying to connect. Dunno.

Also, I checked all the stuff people who couldn't connect to both servers found to be causing issues i.e. overclocking, hardware updates etc, but this is the same computer I used less than a year ago to connect to red and blue and nothing has been changed, except my ISP. It's definitely an internet issue, just don't know if it's one I can do something about

Have you tried it off your "neighbour's" wifi? I know that's not ethical but if you can get into a different router you're only using 4kb/sec... I'm sure they wouldn't notice :p

Hmm, IP of blue worldserver is 66.55.145.2, while red is 108.61.129.184 apparently. I can't ping blue, ICMP blocked apparently. I can ping red though. From previous logs it looked like it was connecting on port 9000 but I can't hit that port on either IP. So basically I haven't found anything interesting so far. :P

Would be nice if someone could post a successful connection log to red, I'm at work so I can't look myself.

Did some google'ing and the most common problem that caused 1017 errors was software firewall related. Is it possible you added an exception at some point for the blue server to like zone alarm, norton internet security or some other program on your machine and you need to add one for red?

Also came across some instances of the whole dual core-not-working-with-EQ thing. Do you use winEQ? Try setting the processor to 1 and see if that helps. Doesn't make sense to me why that would only effect red but its worth a try.

I also have similar issues on blue where I'll get disconnected at times or spells grayed out with no packet loss, which has only happened since I reinstalled a couple weeks ago, never in previous years I've played. They definitely seem to be having some issues with their hosting, or there's an issue with a router along the way that lots of people have to connect through.

Well, easy way to rule your PC out is to bring it somewhere else and try a different internet connection, see if it goes away.

Well I connected at the Starbuck's a few miles away, guess it's an issue with my ISP? Not sure what I should be asking them about though.
