I can give a quick rundown...

You start as two factions much like WoW, each with multiple races. Each race has their own unique mounts but any race can travel to their lands to purchase them. You choose between 3 different skillsets to make a class. For Example if you choose Archery, Shadowplay, and Vitalism , you would be a ranger. You could choose to be more a healer ranger or DPS ranger depending on the skills you choose down the tree. No two Rangers would be the same unless they copied each other's skill tree's. It's also pretty damned balanced not allot of super OP builds or exploits I found in character design.

You gain honor for killing members of the opposing faction that lets you purchase gear.

Unlike WoW you can kill members of your own Faction. Killing Factions members and stealing crops is considered a crime. Their is even an entire tradeskill devoted to stealing other crops called Larceny. If you steal or kill too much you you go to court your next pvp death.

Once at court you can plead guilty for a reduced sentence or ask for trial. If you ask for trail they randomly select 5 players that have been selected for Jury Duty to decide your fate. If found guilty you could be charged with up to 20 hours jail time.

Once in jail you can talk to other inmates or...break out. It takes alil while to escape because you have to the find the key.

If you steal or slay your own faction members too much you become a Pirate. Once a Pirate you are no longer welcome on the mainland and only find refuge at pirate island. The upside is everyone not a pirate now gives you honor pts and you gear much faster through pvp as the entire world is now a free target. And you no longer gain crime pts for killing anyone.

Their are instanced dungeons you can gear off. World Raid mobs that drop gear, and Tradeskill gear.

Well control wise exact same as EQ/WoW you wont need a second to figure out the controls their an exact copy of WoW's.

PvP is like a complete mix of Eq and WoW. Allot more skill based than WoW's pvp, where it was just the OP flavor of the month class, on Archegae timing your skills and adapting to different attacks is how ya win.

Pirate is a faction itself, so you can only guild/group with other pirates. And it doesn't matter what Faction you originally picked, once you go Pirate that's your new Faction/Team. Just like any other faction you can kill other pirates, but doesn't make much sense to do so when the rest of server is already against you.

I started taking arenas seriously at the tail-end of S8, I didn't get Glad any season, just a shit load of duelist/rival titles. S9 was when I started peaking and tried the hardest I could.

Paladins WERE strong healers but had no offensive potential without putting their team in jeopardy. Especially in Cata, they couldn't compare to the other classes as the top comps all used RShams/Discs. Grounding was way too good, as well as Hero/Bloodlust.

They still had their place but it is hard to avoid any CC when everything you can use against top comps is easily dispellable.

Paladin's name was Inglorious on Frostwolf until I xfered to Tichondrius (right before S9) and was Wizz (with an alt code).

I always liked the way Rift did their class system, how you could mix and match and some hybrid builds were very effective for solo'ing or small groups. Then you could go max DPS and forgo utility for raids/full groups, etc.

Classes are put together allot better than Rift, haven't really found any back-braking OP builds. But don't think you can switch back and forth ya can't, you have to earn a lvl's worth of exp to learn that skill. So if you want a lvl 5 required ability, than you have to earn 5 lvl's with that skillset in your build for you to learn that ability.

The beta servers are only opened what appears to be every other week end right now.

Also for the skill sets I believe once you do earn that skill even if you switch to another class and then come back later you'll still know it. So you can jump around to different classes if you want, and not have to worry about starting completely from the beginning if oyu decide to go back.

My pal bought alpha and didnt like it so he letting me use his.

At this point I've got horse and boat and got to the farming tutorial section. Kind of a task to find empt plots, pay taxes to keep them, tend your fields and flocks, etc. Kind of like farmville.

Travel with your supplies farmed to castle or whatever to build stuff, can get jacked in transit I am assuming. Again no learning curve otherwise atm

The game is still in closed beta lol 75% of the endgame content isn't even added yet. This game is basically everything Shadowbane wanted to be but didn't have the tech to do it yet. Shadowbane was 10x more hardcore, unforgiving, and ruthless and was still Number 1 MMO for 6 months after launch. Game failed because it got hacked and all the cities got deleted not because of open world pvp or griefing issues which was just daily life on Shadowbane.

Hell Shadowbanes EMU still has 3x the pop 99blue does even at it's peak.

Exactly the themepark aspect is only a Tutorial, the game becomes a complete sandbox at 50. Tradeskills do give you some of the best gear. But you don't have to do tradeksills to get that gear. You could never touch a tradeskill, spend all your days robbing people, get rich and buy that gear from other players. You could do world raid mobs for great gear, or just buy that gear from player's that sell it.

It's pretty unigue in the fact that a player can literally choose their preferred playstyle and end up fully geared at endgame. The blue aspect of the game totally feeds the games pvp. They've done something that only Shadowbane has previously done, they killed the treadmill!

/agree. I am amazed how some people think that because they are doing quests rather than just killing stuff, they are somehow "not grinding." Making quests the fastest / most viable means of xp just creates directed grinding. I guess for some people, talking to an NPC, running to a place to kill stuff, then running back to the NPC to get their xp is somehow more fun than just killing stuff for xp.

Quests, imo, should be for getting stuff. Most of the xp gained by it should be from killing mobs.

Well, going to an exp camp and grinding it out isn't even possible in a lot of modern MMOs with instanced dungeons. You kill shit and its gone never to appear again until you restart the dungeon. Moving through dungeons and restarting them is just different too...removes the pulling/splitting type dynamics that EQ has.

Will warn you. You will spend like 90% of the beta trying to level up using WoW style quests unless they start you at a certain level. Crafting takes a long time unless you have a ton of palls all pooling resources and already know everything.

You can't sign up for "arenas" until lvl 40

Hot tip:
Quest quest quest. When you get to minable areas, stay there for a few hours, get as much Iron and Stone as you can. SAVE all your quest reward items (Green and above). Spend ZERO Labor Points.

When you are level 20-25, Start smelting all your ore to bars.
Buy a bunch of Evenstones. Start 'disenchanting' all of your quest stuff till you have a few Moonlight dusts.
Buy 3xDust of Shatigon Wedges.
Craft as many Apprentice's Quake Vambraces as you can.
Use the Evenstones to break it down, each one should give you back the Moonlight Dust.
And you do this quite a few times and go from 20 to 30 if you have enough Iron Ore. Can go even higher if you spend a few points on the 100% bonus to Crafting EXP potion.

And all it costs is the price of 3x Wedges and the Evenstones to break down the items. Which is virtually free when you consider the quest rewards.

Its not the BEST way, but its a great way to 'powerlevel' a few.

Additionally, NEVER open the coinpurses, waste of labor.

Also, plant 8hr trees before you log off, log back on get ton of exp from harvesting.

Lots of mines, in the Lay-something hills has 2 different mines. I play Euro hours, so its a bit easier to do. Don't need to stop and do this, but if you are in a mine for an hour or so, easy to get 30-40 ores. Ask to be Mentored in SM and other dungeons.

Have 3 'Builds' set for your guy. PvE, PvP and Mass PvP. Most builds can be modified by switching the weapon (healing weapon vs DPS weapon) and armor set (Plate vs Cloth vs Leather).

Ignore PvP if you are leveling, if you build for PvP, your killspeed will be way too low for grinding. Get in a guild, find one now in Alpha, most guilds in Alpha will be there in Closed to Open Beta and then Live. They will be your lifesaver when it comes to ArcheAge (Getting in a PvP focused guild is fun, takes the monotony out of it). PvE till mid/high 40s, thats when the fun really starts. Going after fisherman, stealing from farms.

And if you really grind through the quests, it takes on average, 40 hours played if you do the quests properly (Overachieve, farm while offline, gather, etc).

This game isn't EQ hard to equate it to any previous MMO because it doesn't run like anything else. It's a sandbox not a Themepark so unlike EQ you can't lock people out of content by gearing up first and griefing them off. They can do their tradeskills and get great endgame gear, run instances, steal and buy it off the auction house etc.

Erase EQ from your mind because in this game dragon raiding is not the a way to gear up past everyone else and leave them empty handed. Their is no griefing them off. Best you can do is set them on another path for gear but no way to lock them out.

Only way to beat people in Archeage is outskill them in pvp, Blue's aren't gonna run the server here lol and red's can't stop blues from gearing up.

I've played almost every MMO since EQ past 2001 (mostly all pvp), played competitive cal-i in CS when it meant something (scrim'd top tier teams who won 100k tournaments), and no MMO has taken skill to play at all. In fact, id say most games don't take any skill, it is all about time investment and practice in anything that has the illusion of skill. Darkfall had some of the most "skilled" combat i've seen or played, you had to actually aim stuff, this game you aim absolutely nothing, you spam 1-5 and manage cooldowns any retard who has played any MMO can do. Not saying darkfall is a bench mark for skill, but talking to him he said this game doesn't even come close to comparing to the skill level. So no I haven't bought a game to play in its alpha (clear money grab, the devs dont even know what to do with the NA version), but I have talked to many people who have been playing since NA alpha started, watched hours and hours of streams, and asked a ton of comparative questions about Arch vs other games. This is typically why I never come onto forums of any game I play (unless looking for something specific), so many horrible scrubs like you professing their skills when in reality you are the gutter bottom. Just look at all your butt hurt responses on this thread alone, anything from saying WoW arena takes no skill (with no armory link to prove you aren't a 1500 baddie rager), saying Arch is SOOO much different because of xyz (all bullshit), or just lashing out at anyone who says anything bad about your Korean wet dream. The game is in every way a button masher, in fact the only thing separating it is how you get to that point (it has some cool pve elements, some good world pvp elements, ship fights, gliding, a fun style), but the actual combat vs players takes less skill then WoW does, which says more then I ever could. When it comes out I give it 2 months until people realize it takes little skill, and everyone is just FOTM builds.
Proof is that all the no-skilled asshat guilds of every other mmo are already on the ALPHA griefing people. That is all the game is, grief pvp. So sure have fun no skilling others while stroking it thinking your the best, but remember winning the Olympics for tards only makes you lead tard.

So no I haven't bought a game to play in its alpha (clear money grab, the devs dont even know what to do with the NA version), but I have talked to many people who have been playing since NA alpha started, watched hours and hours of streams, and asked a ton of comparative questions about Arch vs other games. This is typically why I never come onto forums of any game I play (unless looking for something specific), so many horrible scrubs like you professing their skills when in reality you are the gutter bottom. Just look at all your butt hurt responses on this thread alone, anything from saying WoW arena takes no skill (with no armory link to prove you aren't a 1500 baddie rager), saying Arch is SOOO much different because of xyz (all bullshit), or just lashing out at anyone who says anything bad about your Korean wet dream. The game is in every way a button masher, in fact the only thing separating it is how you get to that point (it has some cool pve elements, some good world pvp elements, ship fights, gliding, a fun style), but the actual combat vs players takes less skill then WoW does, which says more then I ever could. When it comes out I give it 2 months until people realize it takes little skill, and everyone is just FOTM builds.
Proof is that all the no-skilled asshat guilds of every other mmo are already on the ALPHA griefing people. That is all the game is, grief pvp. So sure have fun no skilling others while stroking it thinking your the best, but remember winning the Olympics for tards only makes you lead tard.

Not to mention you are on a game that is 15 years old, on the forums of the emu of that game, and talking about how good some game that isn't even out yet is. What a joke. Your basically the equivelant to a 15 yr old fat rager who doesn't even interact with females. :D Won't even be reading or checking for a response, have fun in that Korean game bro, I bet you fit in well with their genital size.

That's a lot of shit def couldn't even struggle thru it......I did like the aiming in darkfall....the game was a lot of fun for awhile,but archeage is just something new to try and its free......play it or not some of the mass pvp was fun......yeah its a buttonmasher a really really pretty one with things turned up on high....I think its a necessary evil sorta speak for future mmos with the open world/ship battles so take from it what you will....
