View Full Version : Trading Between Characters (Gearing an Alt)

First of all, apologies if this is in the wrong place, but it seemed to be the most suitable section to ask this in.

How would I trade items between characters if I'm wanting to gear an alt? Would I just have to find another player that I trust to hold the items while I log over to the alt? I know that multiboxing is bannable here so that isn't an option. I COULD drop gear on the ground and then log over and pick it up, but that could always get sniped by somebody who just so happens to be running by at the time, and as far as I know, that doesn't work for trading platinum between your characters. I've noticed that only certain items pop up in a vendor's inventory when you sell to them, so that wouldn't be a reliable option either.

Do I just have to risk it all on another player not robbing me blind when I let them hold alt gear?

Yes; find a lvl 60 character in tunnel from a major guild and you shouldn't have any trouble.

And welcome to p99! :)

If I am around you can always look for me. Level 7 rogue, i have had many level 60 accounts and have no desire stealing your items, but I do enjoy helping others

Yeah something just seems off to me about a low level rogue taking all of my alt's gear and money and holding onto it while I log out.

Im sure my gear is superior to yours, or dropping a few names might help

Ouch. But yeah it would be caster gear anyway so all you'd be able to do with it is sell it (like that's ever stopped a rogue before :) )

Just saying, I'd rather trust a level 60 with a well know guild tag next to his name than a level 7 rogue with 7 forum posts.

Yeah all joking aside it is one of those scenarios where I could trust you and it turn out great OR I could find a level 60 with a guild that wouldn't be likely to scam and then contact the guild if anything goes wrong. Possibly losing out on a raid spot wouldn't be anywhere near worth what gear I'd be handing over, but rerolling a level 7 rogue might be. Thanks for the offer though :)

Haha yeah I figured you meant you had a 60 main but we will see who is on whenever I do it. Haven't even gotten the gear yet as I wanted to know what I was getting into trading-wise before I actually did buy the gear.

Weird, why do you have multiple game and forums accounts? And why so eager to help? Sorry, just seems odd.

I'd offer to help, but that doesn't seem to have worked out so well for Kidneypunch, so I'll wish you luck instead.

I didn't mean to come off as a jerk...

It probably stems from me being ripped off years ago for 10k by a "friend" that I had known for months. I'm pretty untrusting now of people that I don't know in real life.

This. I've played EVE Online for a while so I've become untrusting to the point of being almost violent to video game strangers.

Ground transfer is the way to go. One of the best ways to have fun, trying to figure out seclude spots in central locations where you can do it. :)

Just, you know, make sure you have no connection issues. My ISP crapped out few days back, when I was doing a ground transfer and the gear poofed. Worth about half of my "fortune". I was not pleased. :P

I'm still hoping I might get that stuff back, but who knows.

If you don't trust people, then dropping on the ground is the way to go. I've done hundreds of ground transfers since I started playing classic EverQuest and I haven't lost a single item yet. You just have to be smart about where you drop items and quick about picking them up. Good luck!

Ground transfers? C'mon guys, you sound like EQ noobs. ;) Everyone knows it's all about using ovens or other tradeskill containers. Much less obvious to the casual passerby. :)

Except people are far more likely to open an oven and work their tradeskills than they are to stumble upon my secret hiding spot high up on the cliffs overlooking Felwithe. Oh crap....I mean my hiding spot in Nagafen's Lair.

No the items just get placed back in your inventory if you close the container window.

Much as in EVE you never put all/most of your ISK in one ship / POS / outpost / etc, don't do your trades in one go. Trade smaller amounts through multiple helpers / multiple drops. Yes, more time consuming, but not only will you not be wiped out by a theft, but each transfer is less of a temptation for the holder.

Also, even if they don't play, get a RL friend / sibling / spouse to help you out with a level 1. If it's someone who lives with you, and you don't want to wait for an IP exemption you can do it while one of you is at work, or using a laptop at a place with free wifi.

9 time out of 10 I'll drop transfer. There are several spots that are out of the way enough and still quickly and easily accessible. It's super low risk in the grand scheme of things. Need to transfer plat? Do as monks have done for ages. Plat->Gems. Gems->Plat.
