Forgive me if this is a commonly covered topic.
As far as soloing, is necro still far superior to mage as a solo class?
I understand that most people say that shammy has necro licked as solo, but i like the idea of a pet class.
Do chanters fit in well at all into the mix?

Necromancer is superior to Mage solo'ing, both in difficult mobs and killing mobs per hour.
Shaman can take down hard mobs 1-on-1 better than Necros, especially in Velious, but Necros will kill a lot more mobs per hour than a Shaman will. I don't think Shaman get really good at solo'ing until level 50.
Enchanters can match Necro solo'ing in kills per hour and difficult mobs due to charm, also they're very desirable in groups.

Does the necro mana pump make it group/raid worthy?

Necro mana pump is excellent for groups. Along with their other unique abilities they are very beneficial to have. Its also useful for raid, although in any zerg raid situation you'll have barely any time to pump before a mob drops and the casters wont really need it.

Depends. Do you wanna do most the work or have pet do most the work? For single low dark blue mobs hard to beat the efficiency of a mage. If the pull requires a split or there's possible adds, necro wins hands down. Both can take on big baddies solo, necros with fear/dots, mage by chain petting. The fixes to pet agro made mages a lot more fun to play again.
One of my favorite things to do is sick pet on mob, go run around, check out what's going on in another room, go buy/sell from a vendor, come back and pet kills mob while I'm out shopping.

What did they fix with pet aggro? Sorry I am recently returning to game and made Mage so not in the loop

Pets actually taunt now. It's refreshing.

Really only mana pump on wipes/rezs. In groups you should be mezing/healing/snaring/dealing with adds or even just nuking.

The best necros are really active in a group setting. There is just so much they can do that no one really knows/cares about.

A third of the grouping populace has no idea you can do it, and will continue to break your mezzes and try to override your snares and try to heal your health when it drops below 70% and attempt to nuke your charmed undead mob.
You have to basically explain shit in tells. Even then they'll probably still break mez or drop an ice comet on your pet. But the rest will be ecstatic you do it and like you for it.

my necro in a group at 59: cast shadowbond on the tank, dispel the debuff from my first slot. rinse/repeat... 125 point heal every tick costing me only 125 health every 4 ticks. If the tank is a warrior I can keep him fully healed and the cleric never needs to heal. I can also cast a mez if our enchanters pet breaks or he/she is in danger. rooting melee mobs that run rampant in camp.... oh yeah 750 point nuke I can cast all the time to add more DPS outside my pet. If you are just going to sit back and feed mana in a group setting you are doing it wrong.

Man it all comes back to me now... Love clerics, but they tend to freak when you're in lich form lol
