Yeah, homm 3 rocks. 2 is equally good imo. A shame the new ones didn't deliver; I think I bought 4 and 5 and then gave up on the franchise after those two buggy-ass flops.

Ah yeah, I have a bunch of site bookmarks like that. I highly recommend Legend of Zelda using an NES emu running on a Nexus 7 <3 There is an ad-free, free NES emu on google play, runs it perfect.

Well Daggerfall is a fanastic game and mind-bogglingly huge.

I actually now remember playing Warlord 2 with friends all those years ago, but didn't remember until I saw it mentioned here. Pretty sure it was Warlords 2. I'll have to watch some Let's Play videos and see if they spark 20 year old memories.

Populous is a gun game but I only know it on the Sega Genesis. DOS version may differ.

Pool Of Radiance is a great game on the Commodore 64. Can't vouch for the DOS version. Back in the day it was my favorite RPG.

Master Of Magic is brilliant. It's a mix of Civilization and Magic: The Gathering.

My old games website of choice is:old-games (http://www.old-games.com/)
I've bought the 30 day download option at least three times now as I find big chunky older games to download. At the very least you can grab a couple smaller games a couple times a day. I would recommend:
Master Of Magic is brilliant. It's a mix of Civilization and Magic: The Gathering.
Master of Magic is fantastic. I love games that just constantly roll you over and rape you until you figure it out. Can I take this volcano from the neutral guys guarding it? No? Oh cool, now it sends out dragons regularly to come burn down my village. When I was finally getting I was able to take out max opponents on the hardest difficulty at varying land sizes with a couple builds, and I haven't played in a bit so I don't remember the wizard traits specifically.

Holy warlord trolls, because trolls are super OP with regeneration and any fight they win all units, even the dead ones come back to life with full hp. Pair it with that white spell that gets a guy to max exp level and a few units of war trolls.

AND

Fiery death dark elves. The conflag spell that hits all the baddies with a lava geyser is pretty nasty.
Master of Magic link (http://www.old-games.com/download/5394/master-of-magic)
Populous is a gun game but I only know it on the Sega Genesis. DOS version may differ.
I HIGHLY recommend checking out the 3D version:har (http://www.old-games.com/download/6283/populous-the-beginning)

A couple other good ones:

http://www.old-games.com/download/6370/dungeon-keeper-2

http://www.old-games.com/download/4077/system-shock-2

Lots of Warlords:
http://www.old-games.com/search/?s=warlords

The Myth series:

http://www.old-games.com/download/6127/myth-the-fallen-lords (http://www.old-games.com/download/6127/myth-the-fallen-lords)

I could go on forever. Get Myth if you've never played it. There's nothing quite like setting up the perfect dwarf satchel trap and then lobbing a molotov at it that turns a huge army of ghouls into pudding.

Was hoping this thread would be about console games. Besides EQ, I wasn't really into PC gaming until a few years ago.

Civ 3 was the first Civ game I ever played, but there's absolutely no reason to play it nowadays since Civ 4 was pretty much a direct improvement in nearly every way. And then Civ 5 was a totally different game and the playerbase diverges as to what they prefer (I still play Civ 4 over Civ 5).

Besides Civ 3, my favorite highschool PC game was probably Stronghold. RTS where you have to design, build, and defend a castle? Fuckin' sweet. Too bad Stronghold 2 was so buggy.

www.gog.com/ (http://www.gog.com/) is a great place to find old games and to get them to play on new OS's. I have re-bought a couple of my old favorites.
Pool of Radiance was a favorite of mine also along with Neverwinter and all the expansions.
What I really want is for the old creators of Dungeon Keeper to make a new one.

Totally agree. In fact, all the old Bullfrog employees need to be pulled out of retirement and/or unemployment and/or their own stupid game companies and forced to put together something new, even if it's just a sequel. They made some of the most creative, well constructed games I can remember. Syndicate? Theme Hospital? Magic Carpet? These are the guys who brought us Populous! Come on.......

I'm not sure what the legal status is, seems legit, o-g's been up and looking clean for years, but I've gotten a ton of GoG installs(like with GoG ads and everything installed to a GoG folder) from old-games.com and you spend less than 10 bucks there for a full month of downloading anything. The ad's for GoG games in the installs are like that full month price for one game.

Like on the front page of GoG, they have Heroes 3 complete for $9.99
here (http://www.gog.com/game/heroes_of_might_and_magic_3_complete_edition)
942 mbs.

You can get it on old-games:
here (http://www.old-games.com/download/6398/heroes-of-might-and-magic)
902 mbs, for $8.95, and then you can go get every other Heroes and everything else your heart desires.

I would just say definitely give old-games a check before you go to good-old-games.

Valdarious
07-30-2014, 10:56 AM
GoG has deals all the time. I have gotten a number of games in the sub $5 range. I always figured they were legal since they were the older games that no longer work on new OS's but they get them to work.
I will say that I have to use my paypal card to purchase as my bank card will not work as it is out of country, lol.

ManosMan
07-30-2014, 11:30 AM
Naw I wasn't saying GoG seemed illegal or something, it's just that O-G has GoG's installs up there all the time for a cheaper flat rate, so it always seemed to me like old-games was illegally ripping off GoG. I seriously doubt it, just wondered how that works.

And yea they have deals, but if even one of the games you want to buy on GoG is on old-games you're probably better off going there and getting the month and the hundred other games you know you'll get. Or just get it for free slowly.

They're one of the best written gaming series ever. Seriously when it comes to people looking down on games or questioning their validity or maturity, this is the kind of series you can slam down to shut someone the fuck up. It's just so rare you have that fully realized universe with fascinating characters, factions and locales that's so unlike anything else out here. I can find other games that have bits and pieces but you know a game or series is really unique when there's no substitute for the full package.

Amy Henig is working on the new Star Wars game apparently, I'm going to keep an eye on it even with EA's dirty hands all over it.

Devs can take the game RUST (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yqTmaHGrp4&list=UU-wXkB3v0N9MB2Y9rR2Pbkg) and modify it with a high fantasy theme,
dungeons, Cities with guards, Ships, Islands, portals..

Build towers, resource gather, dungeon crawl and defend against Pker's... or be one.
Swords, spears, bows, shields and magics... traps, Monsters, sneaky rogues etc.

Stand atop tall mountains and hurl fireballs at newbs :p
The blubies must gather and defend themselves against the red devils, no crying.

I got a lot more Shakespearean vibes off of that even with the broody goth thing, especially during those precious few scenes with the two of them together. Powerful stuff.
