When you leave that LFG bard for hours while your group has a spot because its not top efficient.
When you call names that chanter for not remembering lower duration mez overwrites longer.
When you two man ragefire in front of that poor cleric waiting for spawn and ask him 20k for the heart.
When you claim "Hiero/Duke" solo in crypt.
When you shit on the kill rotation people took years to come up with.
When you ignore that noob asking for a sow.
When you tip 2 plat to this 39 druid who came all over dreadland to evac you.
Just try to remember this is an emulated server of a long gone game from the 90ies. We'r a couple of thousand people, most over 30, nostalgic and genuinely happy the server just exist.
Be nice.

Project 1999 Rules Rough Draft Post.
First and foremost we would like to ask of those that choose to play on our server, just try and be a decent human being. Use your best judgment and try not to stir up trouble just for the sake of stirring up trouble. We will not act as your babysitters and we think that everyone should be mature enough to get along with one another. We realize that from time to time that there may be disagreements, heated discussions and difference of opinions. We ask that people try to work things out between themselves so that we don’t have to be a mediator in every conflict that arises. Go by the philosophy that if a GM has to show up to mediate your differences, action will probably be taken. By following the rules listed below, you should have no problems on the server and have an enjoyable playing experience.
- Please try and follow the “Play Nice Policy” rule set. Players need to use their common sense here and not do unethical things for personal gain. Respect camps, do not train others, don’t kill steal and don’t ninja loot. There will be consequences for these actions as this is strictly a PVE server.
- A FULL NON-patched copy of Everquest Titanium is required to play on this server. We do not currently provide support for SOF. This may change in the future.
- DO NOT post copyrighted materials, links to get copyrighted materials, or discuss illegal methods to obtain copyrighted materials.
- DO NOT use racist remarks. DO NOT harass people. Limit your use of profanity, especially in public channels. Remember there is a difference between cursing and cursing at someone. You will receive warning, and if you still refuse to cooperate, you will be banned.
- Character renaming can and will occur if a player’s name is offensive. (GM Discretion)
- All members of the GM Staff have the right to be playing on the server as your peers. Those whom fall into this category will have separate login details for their GM Access account and all GMs will have access to each others server logs (corruption will not be an issue). This will allow for GMs and players to be on a level playing field.
- Any type of program or script that gives you an unfair advantage (eg. MacroQuest, ShowEQ or packet modification) will result in an instant ban with no lenience. Cheating will be ruled with an iron first regardless of who you are.
- Multi-boxing is not allowed. Players are only allowed to play one client per RL person. We will be enforcing this rule and we ask for everyone’s co-operation to just abide by our wishes. Breaking this rule will result in a ban.
- If you witness, discover or hear of an exploit it becomes your responsibility to report that exploit. Some exploits could include: Loot dropping improperly for large monetary gain, pathing exploit allowing you kill NPCs at ease, or a quest rewarding you experience and giving you back the quest item to turn it in over and over for experience. We ask for everyone’s cooperation in this matter. It is important for us to stomp out any issues as quickly as we can so that things stay legit.
- We reserve the right to add to, modify, or remove any or all of the above rules at our discretion. Rules are mandatory.
Thanks,
Project 1999 Development Team

I was playing my wizard last night. Ran thru Lfay when I saw 2 people near that named brownie's corpse.(Underbrush or some dude) I ran by did a /shrug & ran off to my business. 1 of them /ooc's that I stole what was on the things corpse & the other sends me a tell sayin, "that wasn't yours to loot."
Well, being the INVISIBLE wizard running through zone I kindly stated in ooc & /tell also, that they were wrong & to check their logs/records. After about a few minutes before I left zone and not seeing any apology I took it upon myself to school the rude & presumptuous duo that blamed me for their loot errors and did not apologize for themselves being in the wrong. Sadly; it was effort wasted on deaf ears or just ignorant players that never feel they're wrong ever.
I know everyone can have good days & bad days & it's real easy to tell people to be nice but their actions is what is the true compass in this scenario. Not even an attempt to say "o my bad, or OH! sorry we were WRONG.

Problem with Play Nice rules, is it says to be ethical, and most of those who do the things we all gasp at, and some don't cause you're one of the that do them, is they think they are being ethical...

Main Entry: nice
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English nice "foolish, stupid," from early French nice (same meaning), from Latin nescius "ignorant," from nescire "not to know," from ne- "not" and scire "to know"

I think it stems from a major problem the whole world has... accountability.
From the top to the bottom people get away with being the biggest asshole, major con-artist or worse. Some just dont give a fuck anymore so we have to go to extreme lengths just to be neighborly so the target of your decency doesn't think you have ulterior motives anymore.
When I told the guy driving down the road that his tire was flat he looked at me like I was insulting him....
When I held the door open for the lady at the store she didnt say "thank you" or smile or anything - she just zoomed by as if I was the regular door man....
I could go on & on with instances & more proof but it does nothing but bad to reflect all the negativity that people harbor inside themselves & some magnify & then broadcast to others.
TL;DR: being nice? you may end up last as they say... & link

I'm a nice person. When i started playing on p99 a few months ago, i was super social and tried to include anyone and everyone in my groups, even "non-optimal" classes.
The more i play, the more bitter and jaded i become.
The amount of bad and stupid players is staggering for a 15 years old game filled with "mature, over 30" people.
I'm not the best by far, i make honest mistakes. Sometimes there's confusion and lack of communication, i understand that. I'm talking about really basic things and basic game mechanics and paying attention to whats happening.
Sometimes my forehead is all red and swollen from the constant facepalming, i think i'm gonna need a cranial reconstruction surgery.
At first i didn't understand why would people want to solo in a game like everquest, where the gameplay is pretty boring and it's all about the "social experience".
Now i understand.

That's not always the case. Mesmerize overwrites everything (except bard and necro mez). But Entrance and Dazzle will overwrite each other in any order, even though Dazzle is the higher/longer mez.

Maybe you take things a little too seriously? Not trying to flame you or start a war, but have you tried to help them? I get that sometimes people are bad's, I really do, but rarely have I ran into one in a group setting that made me face palm. I always play hybrids, the hate I receive, but then I shut them up with my ability to play. Never have I had someone so bad that if you say something to them that they don't straighten up. I try to be patient and pleasant to everyone I play with, cause its as much their time as it is mine that we are sharing.

Once you make it past... 35? Nice is out the window. You start working hard at Eq, so you put up with less. You become jaded, so you put up with less. You get treated with disrespect, so you put up with less. You become the thing you hate. Post 35 is the dark side.
I remember talking about bronze armor in the karanas with a small family group of EQers and thinking all was wonderful.

sometimes i will purposefully not tell someone about a certain mechanic so that i can watch the chaos ensue.. even if it means i have to lose 10% exp, totally worth it
EDIT: if someone asks me for help, thats a different story.. but that ungeared paladin trying to lull red cons? hehehehheeee so funny

90% of the time you try to help someone you get told off or ignored, it's better just to load up gate and get outa Dodge before the carnage starts.

Exactly.
Like i said, i'm a nice person. I'm careful about how i'm doing it, too. I send a tell, instead of talking in group chat, to not put the person in the spotlight.
I'm far from taking things too seriously, for real. I never rejected a rogue for not having his epic or a monk for not having a t-staff, for example. I always chose the player over the gear.
But being nice is hard when people don't know the very basic mechanics of Everquest at level 50 something, are not paying attention and refuse to improve even when told very nicely.

And here I thought they were all just farming places like CB and Unrest blocking out newbies/lowbies from camps and throwing fits if the newbies ask them to at least leave a couple mobs in the zone for exp sake.
