I never paid this game any mind til recently. It's extremely polished for an "alpha" game. If you're into open world sandbox style games, grab it on steam for about 20 bucks. I've got 40 hours into the game and going strong.
It's got the minecraft element of digging harvesting and building, but with a very decent story line with sci-fi and rpg elements thrown in. Go sword and board or use an assault rifle or phase gun.
The currency system works in that any play style is viable. Mine for metals and trade for the food and health packs you need. Go hunting and trade meat for metals and armor and weapons. Harvest herbs to make your food and medical supplies and trade for the rest. You get the picture.
It also has a really nice 3D modeling system directly in the game. You can use parts you've crafted to create your own guns, swords, armor and vehicles. Import your own textures and decals to use. Or, download the files that other players have made to use in your game.
I've run across a bug or two but nothing major or game breaking so far. Very pleased with the purchase.

Playin this with a RL bud, thought game was limited to what i saw when i spawned, but theres more shit.
I went further south and saw at least 10 new types of creatures and found copper vendors.
What im wondering now is if they got the game finished enough that theres gold vendors more south even and new creatures i havent seen yet. Bud went to sleep and i only play when hes on.

The game is pretty big. I'm playing in story mode though so it may be different in multiplayer idk. There have been a decent amount of creature types. And I like the mineral scanning system. There's definitely more vendors in story mode, gold armor and diamond weapons and shield are the highest I've seen so far I think.

Also strange that you say you went south. Are u playing a legit copy? I started the game on the southern shore of the map and had to progress north / north west.

Yeah on steam. Looked like we spawned in the middle of the map and could have gone 4 directions, but not sure. I think u spawn on an island and no matter which direction u go, u come across water.

Ahh, I'm sure the multiplayer isn't nearly as developed as the storyline mode then. Playing together is cool but I'd suggest giving solo a try.

I think I put about 130 hours into this back when it was 1.74 or something. Hosted my own dedicated server for it for my friends and me.
I will probably go back to the game once it gets even more polished. The editor is pretty damn cool.

I'm intrigued. I'll probably pick up a copy next weekend (this weekend is going to be reading books in the sun and playing a diff game).

4 i think, im hitting a wall though now, theres not alot to do.
Once you craft vehicules and realize that youve seen everything no matter what direction you go in, it sort of gets stale.
Im not sure if the bosses drop different loot though, and if they always respawn at the same spot (Which would make it interesting to explore the map see what bosses drop the best loot and build your base near it)

If you like this sort of game you might enjoy starsector, look it up.
More of a starflight, elite type of game though, but scifi

Open world not so open? Couldn't they just make it like minecraft where it is kinda endless in either direction?
