So I decided to start playing on the beta server since I've never played velious before, and after playing for a little while I got hooked. I started boxing 6 characters to look for bugs and I ended up getting a bit carried away. I spent a little over a week testing the Tower of Frozen Shadow and found a bunch of things that may need to be changed. Instead of making 20 different threads I decided to post these as a compendium for ToFS as a whole. If you guys want me to actually make different threads in each subforum for each bug report just let me know.

Zonewide bugs

Spawn rates seem crazy fast right now. Every spawn seems to be respawning in 6 min 40 sec, except for golem ushers on the 5th floor which are a little faster, and the incoherent spirit on floor 6a who is over an hour (as he should be). I haven't seen many references to spawn times but from what I have found, it seems to be 20-30 minute respawns for most trash (source 1 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5363#m125796550997053733) (~19 minute Librarian), source 2 (http://www.angelfire.com/freak/eqjonze/guides/velious/tofs/tofs.htm) (24 minutes on wedding party), source 3 (http://web.archive.org/web/20010616174241/http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?zone=117&mid=978726251483) (~30 min torches)) and an hour for the bats that have a chance to spawn Tserrina (also in source 3). More generally, this guide (http://www.eqcleric.com/archive/index.php/t-4814.html) says that the entire tower is on an ~20 minute timer in the section for floor 7.

Velious era spells should be dropping, but I have yet to see a single spell despite killing hundreds of mobs on every floor. There were so many comments on spells dropping here (Ro's Fiery Sundering seemed to be mentioned the most) that I didn't bother saving any specific comments, but if this needs more documented research I can do it.

No traps work, but this has already been acknowledged by Nilbog.

Floor 1

**NPC bugs**

a lesser ice shade - I have killed close to 50 of these guys but have not seen the Globe of Fear drop. Evidence that it did drop from lesser ice shades as early as Dec 20, 2000 (http://web.archive.org/web/20010724000411/http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?zone=117&mid=9773186227621). Second source from January 11, 2001 (http://web.archive.org/web/20020618151146/http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=5632) (bottom of page).

a lesser ice shade - Currently casting both SpectreLifetap and SpectreStun. Current databases show that they cast SpectreLifetap only (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5632). Second, this comment (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5632#m102049075838156) supports the idea that their spell is different than old world spectres . I could find no evidence that they ever cast SpectreStun.

**Pathing**

Currently, feared mobs run around randomly like you would expect. There is evidence that mobs on the first floor should run towards the entrance mirror and continue to run into the wall basically not moving for the duration of fear. Used by low levels to exp on the first floor (source 1 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zones.html?zstrat=117&p=2#m102141650590646), source 2 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/zones.html?zstrat=117&p=2#m99989235521960)).

Not sure this counts as pathing since it is definitely client side and not server side, but 100% of the time that you zone into TofS you will see a stack of 2-5 mobs standing at the entrance. (http://i.imgur.com/g8adz1F.jpg) So far I've seen mummies and oozes from floor 4 and bats from floor 6b or 7. You can't interact with the mobs at all.

Floor 2

**NPC bugs**

Zorglim the Dead - This guy was the only rare mob I was never able to find. The Tessmage database suggests he should spawn in this spawn group (http://www.tessmage.com/AllaClone/spawngroup.php?id=13962) at a 50% chance alongside the spectral student at loc (511,866,23), but I don't know how useful Tessmage actually is. I checked this spawn location and got both a spectral student and a spectral scholar, meaning it is not using the frozenshadow_12 spawn group. That being said, I spent the least amount of time on floor 2 because of the crazy rate at which the scholars were landing beguile on my puller, so I may have just gotten unlucky and not seen him.

a ghostly student - So far 100% of the ghostly students that I have killed have been necromancers. I found a post suggesting that students could spawn as wizards as well, but unfortunately I lost the link to that source and I can't seem to find it anymore. However it did lead me to look into the tessmage database, and it shows that there are indeed two spawns in the northeast portion of floor 2 that have a chance to spawn wizard students (spawngroups frozenshadow_39 (http://www.tessmage.com/AllaClone/spawngroup.php?id=13989) and frozenshadow_40 (http://www.tessmage.com/AllaClone/spawngroup.php?id=13990)). I checked both spawns, but they both only spawned necromancer students and ghostly scholars. I checked on live and was able to confirm that there are ghostly student wizards. However, this could again just be that they are rare and I got unlucky since I didn't spend a ton of time on floor 2.

a ghostly student - This bug is specifically for the student that spawns next to the ghostly teacher in the hut to the west (pictured here (http://i.imgur.com/s4RWv6B.jpg)). This post (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5652#m98821948781040) suggests she always spawns with a student, and this spawngroup (http://www.tessmage.com/AllaClone/spawngroup.php?id=13971) on Tessmage supports this. The tower of frozen shadow guide (http://www.angelfire.com/freak/eqjonze/guides/velious/tofs/tofs.htm) also suggests that the spawn with the teacher is always a student. As you can see in the picture, it can currently spawn as a scholar.

Librarian / Librarian assistant - I have yet to see any spells drop in TofS, and I suspect that many mobs here should have spells on their loot tables. However, these two guys seem to have have higher than normal spell drop chance because there are lots of comments on their allakhazam pages specifically mentioning their spell loots. (Librarian page (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5363), Librarian assistant page (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5364).

All casters - Two comments on this page (http://web.archive.org/web/20040130072053/http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?zone=117) (Search for comment "Crazy !!!" from June 6, 2002) suggest that the casters should not be casting the caliber of spells that they currently are. Students and scholars currently match the post-patch behavior mentioned and are casting venom of the snake, lifetap, and charm. This apparently shouldn't be happening until the patch on June 12th, 2002 (http://web.archive.org/web/20020810184631/http://eqlive.station.sony.com/support/customer_service/cs_patch_message.jsp?id=45808) which mentions spellcaster changes. It sounds like they were casting higher level spells, but chose spells poorly and were perhaps not doing very much damage overall.

**Spell bugs**?

Beguile - Ghostly scholars land beguile extremely often despite me being level 60 and therefore theoretically immune. It even lands occasionally when I use a bard at 299 MR. This seems wrong.

*Item bugs**

Crystallized shadow leggings are supposed to be no rent until the patch on February 21, 2001 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/history/patches-2001-1.html). I wasn't able to actually check these because they drop from Zorglim the Dead (who I wasn't able to spawn), but considering the Gnome Skin Sleeves (see floor 3) are incorrect I think it is safe to assume these are incorrect as well.

Floor 3

**Pathing**

The western armored shadow patrol in the skeleton sleeper area patrols in direct lines between his 3 waypoints going through all walls instead of walking along the hallway (video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z6hAxtzH_0)). I've circled his location on the map for floor 3 (http://i.imgur.com/S9wY6Of.jpg).

**Item bugs**

Gnome skin sleeves (http://i.imgur.com/GbnR0ZN.jpg) - Supposed to be no drop and no rent until the patch on July 10, 2001 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/history/patches-2001-2.html).

Floor 4

**NPC bugs**

oozing flesh - Should drop excellent sabretooth hides until patch on January 28, 2003 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/history/patches-2003-1.html) (Alternate source 1 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5653#m102387691421991), source 2 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5653#m100614844773896))

No enemies seem to spawn in the basement area. Multiple sources claim that if you fall you will be in an area with a few mobs and will have to either fight them or run past to reach the fire that teleports you back up. (Source 1 (http://www.angelfire.com/freak/eqjonze/guides/velious/tofs/tofs.htm), source 2 (http://www.eqcleric.com/archive/index.php/t-4814.html)). I checked on the live servers and there were 3 mobs in the basement.

**Item bugs**

Sorcerous bowl (http://i.imgur.com/1M2VHJk.jpg) - The sorcerous bowl should have no weapon type and effectively work as a h2h weapon until sometime mid-late velious. H2H as early as Apr 29, 2001 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4046#m98857995792876), and as late as Jun 18, 2001 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4046#m99289833041689). Appears to be 1hb as early as Oct 10, 2001 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=6828#m10027524801654).

**Pathing**

Many pathers roam through walls and seem to appear at random, but I did not bother documenting much of this because it has been acknowledged already by devs on the forums.

Floor 5

**Pathing**

When pulling caster mobs they will sometimes run directly through walls after casting a spell if you have run out of LoS. I've seen this in a few different places in ToFS so far, but this is the only place that I can reliably replicate the bug. In the video I get the priest to run through a wall twice while chasing me. (video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8irOmnKOwMQ)).

Floor 6a

**NPC bugs**

The Tower of Frozen Shadow guide (http://www.angelfire.com/freak/eqjonze/guides/velious/tofs/tofs.htm) suggests that some shadow beast guards should randomly see through invis (similar to the frogloks in sebilis). None currently do. I haven't found any other evidence that this should be the case though.

**Item bugs**

Abram's Axe of the Stoic (http://imgur.com/3lDws7Y) - This item went through a number of changes. There is some evidence that the name of this item was Abram's Maul of the Stoic until the Dec 19, 2000 patch. (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4367#m97812801710605) Since just the item's name was changed, and not the item itself, it is hard to tell if the maul ever actually existed. Also, it was originally not usable by gnomes or halflings. (http://web.archive.org/web/20011124185802/http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4367) The earliest date I can find that says gnomes and halflings were added to the race list was Apr 23, 2002 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4367#m101953787135141)

**NPC Bugs**

A shrouded bat/An enraged vampire - Shrouded bats on floor 7 are supposed to spawn enraged vampires on death whenever Tserrina doesn't spawn (source 1 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5604&p=4#m99629599125357)). Despite this working fine for the shrouded bats on floor 6b, the enraged vampires never spawn on floor 7 (video evidence (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glOfJ2-h_Og)).

A shrouded bat - In the north part of floor 7 behind the invisible wall there are four rooms, and it seems that each room should have a bat spawn in it (source 1 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5604&p=4#m99629599125357), source 2 (http://www.eqcleric.com/archive/index.php/t-4814.html)). Currently one room does not have a bat spawn (circled in this map (http://i.imgur.com/drI1zCY.jpg)). Upstairs on the 7th floor is a lone shrouded bat near the locked door to the master mirror room. Perhaps this bat is supposed to be downstairs in the empty room?

**Item bugs**

Shrouded torch - There is evidence that the shrouded torch dropped by "a shrouded torch" mobs is a "cursed weapon" that procs on the user rather than enemies (source 1 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4144#m98618165528336), source 2 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4144#m97957555020296), source 3 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4144#m100692239630857)). I never played velious so I have no idea if cursed weapons were actually a thing or just a rumor, but some players mention them (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4088#m9769631766592) in other places. The earliest confirmation I've found that it was changed to increases your strength rather than drain it is on Oct 21, 2002 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4144#m103522598185212).

she is suppose to drop Student's Homework / Teacher's Syllabus but I have yet to see anyone confirm they received one

Sorry about that, yea I didn't bother taking screenshots of items that looked fine compared to the allakhazam database. I'm 99% sure I looted both, but I'll check my logs for all the rare spawn/key mob loots to confirm that they are dropping. I think the only items I haven't gotten yet are the staff from Tserrina and the crystallized shadow legs.

I'm guessing the resist rate on beguile is probably linked to the resist issues we are having on live right now.

Pending update, general respawn time increased to 20 minutes where it was less than 20. Bats increased to 1 hour.

Vandy has a community project going to help with these, for anyone interested.

It's another emulator. Not very useful. Regarding Zorglim's spawn, it looks okay to me; but can be adjusted if players continue to have rarity issues.

I never played velious so I have no idea if cursed weapons were actually a thing or just a rumor, but some players mention them (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4088#m9769631766592) in other places. The earliest confirmation I've found that it was changed to increases your strength rather than drain it is on Oct 21, 2002 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=4144#m103522598185212).Will look into these items.

No enemies seem to spawn in the basement area.Will look into this.

A shrouded bat/An enraged vampire - Shrouded bats on floor 7 are supposed to spawn enraged vampires on death whenever Tserrina doesn't spawn (source 1 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5604&p=4#m99629599125357)). Despite this working fine for the shrouded bats on floor 6b, the enraged vampires never spawn on floor 7 (video evidence (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glOfJ2-h_Og)).Fixed, pending update.

A shrouded bat - In the north part of floor 7 behind the invisible wall there are four rooms, and it seems that each room should have a bat spawn in it (source 1 (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5604&p=4#m99629599125357), source 2 (http://www.eqcleric.com/archive/index.php/t-4814.html)). Currently one room does not have a bat spawn (circled in this map (http://i.imgur.com/drI1zCY.jpg)). Upstairs on the 7th floor is a lone shrouded bat near the locked door to the master mirror room. Perhaps this bat is supposed to be downstairs in the empty room?Seems right. Pending update, moved the bat from upstairs to the empty room.

No Student's homework in my logs but I can go clear the angry librarian a few more times to check for it. As I mentioned earlier I didn't spend much time on floor 2 because of the beguile craziness so its not too strange that I haven't seen that drop yet.
