I have no problem connecting from my wireless network at home - what gives? any suggestions? The University's wireless does require authentication upon initial connect, which I did...

Port 5998 may be blocked on your network there. If you open a command window (Start -> Run -> cmd) and type telnet eqemulator.net 5998 and it just sits there for a while trying to connect, it's probably blocked. If it goes blank and shows a blinking cursor then it's gotten a connection to the server on that port. (But will do nothing else since it doesn't actually work using the telnet protocol on the other end)

Revisiting this - if I get the cursor and blank window (meaning i connected to the server and the port is not blocked), but still can't connect to the login server, do you have any other ways of seeing if it's viable?

Edit: Adding error message.

This occurs when I hit the login screen and just try to "connect" or "quick connect."

"A connection to the server could not be reached. Please check your internet connection to make sure you are online.

If the problem persists, please check our Network Status and Scheduled Downtime pages for updates. If the problem persists, please use our Help Link for further assistance."

Any chance someone else at the university is playing, and the network you are on doesn't have an IP exemption? Just a thought.

Nah, there's a different error message for that (i've gotten it before when switching accounts too quickly), and if that was the case, i'd actually connect to the loginserver and server select screens.

Thanks though :)

You can try tunneling, that's what I did on my School Network:

1. register an account at http://www.your-freedom.net/, download and install the software
2. download proxycap at http://www.proxycap.com/ and install the software

3. run Your-Freedom using your registered account
4. start Proxycap
5. in Proxycap's preferences, in the Proxies menu, create a new one. Socks5, address: localhost, port: 1080
6. under rules, create a new rule: Tunnel Through proxy, select the one you just made under the proxy dropdown, and then for application browse to eqgame.exe and select that
7. now start the game and see if it works

been a while since i used it, and proxycap only has a free 30 day trial, but you can probably find some hax to run it longer than that.
let me know if you can get it to run ;)

This has totally worked, but your freedom disconnects me every 60 minutes...kind of annoying ;P

But hey, way better than nothing. thanks!
