5) Nihilum goes full recruit, and older inactive players start showing up, scumbags on the outs that want back in for Velious are re-invited, and eventually it turns into who wants it more, which until now has always been the Nihilum neckbeard crew.

6) New guild breaks up, some go to Nihilum, some quit, a couple will join the group of older geared players that become inactive.

7) Uncontested static pixel farming.

Hardcoded simulated repops, or consistent weekly or bi-weekly repops are the only chance a smaller new guild can stay independent and have a shot at avoiding this cycle, otherwise it's back to the same old same old.

Last simulated repop after who knows how long, with no active competing guilds - managed to pull out enough people to do Sev/Inny/Fay - this is essential.

I can't imagine Azrael ever trying to lead a zerg guild again, we can do PD with 20 which we have done several times, we took Sev/Fay/Inny with 13, two grouped sev basically.

Most of the toons are BIS - keep Simulated Repops and Azrael would be a fully PVP/fast reacting guild, which might adapt in Velious.

And to the people saying Hokuten threatened to kill Nihi off - so you have to follow around the new players to make them quit, blah blah blah - has happened to every guild ever created on Red99.

Azrael barely existed when nizzar reached out to me, and having access to the boards now and being able to reread what was said within at the time, there was a legit desire to help support a second guild.

I don't think the sole goal of a second guild needs to be to "compete". Yes, it's a pvp server. But, there are tons of mobs in velious and progression paths which would allow a second guild to gear up, progress, etc.

If you want to "beat" nihilum, defined by me as becoming the top guild on the server, it won't be via pvp. It will be by providing a better pve option. Better loot system, less mouths to feed, better structure, etc. In velious, there will be a very real opportunity to do this, particularly if nihilum fields 110+ people on release. What different progression paths are you talking about? Step 1 kill in Kael. Step 2 hit HoT with appropriate faction to CoV. Step 3 work on North, kill Zlandi, Klandi, King T, Derakor, and eventually Yelinak. Get ToV geared while farming said mobs and getting key pieces for your members to enter ST.

I agree with this, and don't want to leave this thread giving the impression he's doing a poor job or that Hokuten is a bad guild. I do question the recruitment message not only for the attention that brings from Nihilum, but from the impression it leaves on new players, though it seems he's still been able to gather together a decent number of people. I think there's a big desire for a solid leveling guild (or two...?) on Red 99, one that can not only pick up the low and mid level stragglers, but also hit some light raid targets like draco and progress from there.

Hopefully Hokuten can be that guild. Though I'm not a huge fan of the name. (sorry!)

Jib speaks the truth. That general grief made me laugh at how sad and scared these boys are at any minor threat to their pixels. We just packed up and ended up getting some shaman/cleric epics instead, so no loss anyways.

Also not a fan of the name, but this is one of the better and more fun guilds I've ever been in any MMO. Look forward to the 40v60's when we're all 60!

I disagree on your cycle assertion and the right way to compete. Particularly in velious I think it will be hard for an azrael style guild to compete as constructed, which pisses me off because I want vibrant pvp. So when I see hokuten make terrible mistakes like they are now it's frustrating.

What terrible mistakes? Having Jib as a guild leader? He made the guild. Do you not recall all the posts about the only people who could lead a guild would be those willing to neck-beard and put int massive amounts of time but also have enough experience to lead the events?

There is a pretty fucking narrow group of people for this. Sounds to me like an excuse to grief any guild that might be a competition off the server, but I guess we all know that.

This. Honestly I am having a blast in this guild - even when we get run out of General or Sky, it happens. I have a feeling Nihi wants to think we are spending hours crying over this, but realistically we just moved on and did other stuff right after.

The advantage most people don't see to having all these new players is that were just having fun every night raiding/leveling together in teamspeak. We dont need the most epic loot RIGHT AWAY. The people who wanted that joined Nihi (and that's fine). A lot of us are willing to work up the chain - that's the environment Jib has set up so far in Hokuten and I think its working great.

We fielded 40 last night - we are doing something right.

Lets just PvP the shit out of each other and have fun.

My thoughts exactly. During tranix the other night when I saw checkraise come into the zone I knew what was coming. Made it exciting.

Not worried about nihilum. In fact one of my leveling buds was a nilly twink (Lilmez represent :) )

As long as the intention is to PvP for fun and not to try and keep newer players from progressing I say bring it on. We may not get you the first time but it's coming eventually. We will learn.

Also much props to nilly for not shitting up the hate raid last night after the informant starting putting us on blast in OOC. Maybe it wasn't worth your time or maybe we can keep it civil?

I joined p1999 because I loved everquest as a kid. I joined red because as a blue player in eq I always enjoyed reading about the top guilds pvping for raid targets. Hopefully we get to that point and possibly in Velious do some damage to each other in good fun.

I think it is safe to say almost ALL of the level 10-50 groups are a mixture of people who would otherwise be screaming down each others throats and threatening to kill them on their mains. Grouped with plenty of azrael, hokuten, nihi all levleing up various alts. Some knew who I was some didn't. Made for interesting play to say the least, especially for those people who you 'absolutely despise' but are getting along just fine telling them they are pretty good when they dont know who you really are

Also the whole zerg guild mentality is the only option for static timers, which is the fundamental problem with the box anyway - no need for zerg only tactics, no need for anyone to commandeer scrub players, probably even Nihi you better watch your back HB.
