At what level does your pet stop stealing your exp , maybe its me or the fact that I've grown accustomed to easy mode mmorpgs , was playing as a gnome but switched over and made a edruite necro, any tips or tricks you could throw at me would be very appreciated.

You have to group, or do > 50% damage. One reason why pet-class duos are so deadly; grouped so no pet-eaten XP, and ... 2 pets.

Mages make a nice partner for a Necro as well. :)

Don't get discouraged playing a necro. Some full groups (6 person groups) won't want you, but others will. And yes, duo'ing or trio'ing will be fine.

And some day, if you work hard enough, you will get to be called the highest compliment a necro can ever earn: mana battery.

Necros are great in groups, especially smaller groups where our DOTs have time to do work. We have ghetto-cc, dps, ghetto-heals, mana transfer, and can FD-split pull.

After level 20 you should be able to out damage your pet easily, any dots you cast will do more than 50%.

Also necros are fantastic in groups, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I've been the main healer and mezzer in Seb groups before.

I wouldn't be too worried about this until a little later on, to be honest. I didn't have to do much about it till I was in the 20s probably. In any case, by then you're fear kiting and can just keep the pet back until you've dropped 51% damage on whatever you're killing, then send in the pet.

Groups can be a lot of fun, but don't shy away from soloing! We're really very good at it.

Don't be afraid to back your pet off. Remember, your pet doesn't have to do damage. All your pet is is a DoT that you don't recast every fight. If it goes just 40% damage, that's awesome.

Additionally, the others are right: If you adjust your playstyle appropriately to grouping, you can be incredibly good. The issue is you fight against years of necromancers going into groups, tossing out DoTs (not efficient when the mob dies ~10 seconds), not twitching, not healing, fearing mobs out of camp, shit like that. What I like to call, "soloing in a group". Necromancers get used to playing the way they solo, and when they do that style in a group, it makes all necromancers seem bad.

So, you struggle against that legacy, but if you group often, as often as you can, you'll level up with people of your level, and they will regroup with you, and so on.

You can be very good in groups. You can be very good in soloing. Don't let the pet stuff get in your way. Just back it off if you want the full XP.
