I'm not sure if i should post that in the Starting Zone forums, but anyways here it goes.

I started a dwarf paladin on red tonight. Completely new to EQ pvp and paladin as well.

1: I know that you can't fear or charm players in pvp, but what about root/stun/mez/snare? Does these spell land consistently against players with "normal" MR gear/buffs?

2: What is the role of the paladin in PvP? Stand back and heal or actually melee?

3: How hard is it to obtain "standard" gear set? For example: Sword of the Morning, Ghoulbane, Rod of Lamentation, deepwater bracers, how much would that cost? Obviously resist gear costs more, i'm not looking for BiS gear, just a rough estimate for middle-of-the-way stuff.

4: And last, what should i know or expect as a pally on red?

Thanks

1. Root/stun/mez/snare can all land in pvp

2. Paladins aren't great at pvp unless they are geared (from my experience), you should either try to melee our joust, maybe a real paladin can elaborate on this.

3. Paladin gear is pretty cheap, since they aren't very popular. You can check out the trade forums to get an idea of pricing.

4. I guess it would be pretty hard, since paladins without gear don't solo well, and you need some plat to acquire gear.

Some people on this server are very annoying, the majority are cool people. As in every kindergarten, the most obnoxious ones are also the loudest kids. Best left ignored in an attempt to educate them.

Good luck.

Hi Erydan,

1) stuns and roots always have a percentage chance on landing on high resist players, but moreso on players with 60MR or less.

2) Paladins make for a solid support class, with life touch and soul fires, they are able to keep key people alive such as main healers or main assists. You will also harass their healers and prevent them from healing.

3) Not too difficult if you know what to farm, plus there are generous players out there.

4) Xicotl being ninjad ;)

1: Don't expect to land much of this in pvp late end, but if you're righting people in rags sure.

2: Farm soulfire all day and night, if you don't come to the fight with 5 charges of soulfire you're a completely useless piece of shit

3: Not hard, join the zerg and get standard gear setup, then level up, get vp gear and logoff

4: You won't like it, play a wizard, druid or anything that can move around / do stuff

You're welcome

OP, you should also expect some people on this server to speak like this.

P99 pixel-farmers are thugs, in case you didn't know.

Years of incarceration in the secure housing unit known as "the basement" has devolved them into people that take pride into displaying a lack of decency.

Its the R99 way. Being locked away in the basement for years also makes them easily excited;

Give it 6-12 months without light, social contact with real people, and scouring the forums 18/24 while wearing your F5 key down, if you want to get down with these guys.

1 yes
2 yes
3 is a sad mans tears
4 druid is the best starting class for any eq server

Starting as a melee will be tough, get a foothold onto the server then make a melee

Drakaris I'm going to install a program on your computer and monitor it to see if you are hacking

it really isn't hard to start any class here, then just join Nihilum and suck dick for a year or two to get all your gear. It might take a while and a lot of dick but it will be pretty effortless, you just have to log on and sit at zonelines/zone entrances while watching movies/porn to acquire BiS on this server.

This is more or less entirely true. Wish you could have been more precise as to how much semen the average new applicant has to swallow before being allowed to roll on loot, but i believe the specific values can be found on their guild's website.

It should be noted that acquiring gear on this server is incomparably easier to acquiring gear on blue, at least with respect to late game loot (though this realistically applies to 99% of items). That is because there is nearly zero competition for loot. Sure, you will be drowning in man fluid while peoples' fourth alts pick up a few BiS, but after that nothing but smooth, creamy sailing.

Also, I'd advise not playing a paladin for your first pvp character as they are not particularly OP. Burst damage is kind of the bee's knees for PVP and for that reason I would suggest wiz, druid, or SK (if you wanted to play melee) for a starting class on red.

Other option is level up while getting killed by Azrael, then app to them. If you get in you'll have 0 chance at loot and be left without any guildmates when they get driven off the server for the 20th time.

Then at that point you can app Nihilum and be months behind in the DKP standings.

Either way you'll end up in Nihilum eventually. :)

wish that was true, but after years of beratement and flakey awful players leaving to Nihilum Lite finally gave in and made a DKP system

Not sure how you could go without some sort of DKP system, even if its pretty much just for attendance tracking like Nihilum's.

Wow... didn't take long for you to turn a new player thread into a Nihilum vs Azrael thread...
