The melee solo challenge

No this is not a troll thread, I was wondering if it is possible irregardless of time to get either an untwinked warrior or rogue 1-60 100% solo. Items self found only, no heals, no buffs allowed from other PCs. Buying from NPC merchants would be allowed , but not the items sold by other players.

Suppose that this server was deserted and you only had 2 options, how would you go on about to the road to lvl60?

Monks could do it a lot easier. I think its possible on a warrior, 1-54 in the old world for sure. Could probably solo singles in Karnor to 60.

The obvious setback is how patient you are with sitting around waiting to heal up. I'd assume you'd want to play a troll or iksar for the improved regen? The 50s might take years with no healer! :p

Warriors solo up til about 50 is pretty doable. After that is gets a little hairy.

Is the extra regen from Trolls and Iksars really worth the xp penalty? Would the Troll or the Iksar reached lvl60 faster than the Halfling Warrior?

Even getting a decent weapon at 50+ would be very tough solo. I think maybe technically doable killing mostly light blue mobs, but even those would get really tough. Not able to buy gear it's going to be hard to get any decent weapon or armor. No 55hp rings even I guess.

I've heard that untwinked warrior soloing is surprisingly viable. I think you would definitely want to go with a troll or iksar for the regen, but it might be worth some experimentation. Bind wound would be a key skill for this kind of run. With a rogue, I think it would be harder. You can ghetto backstab by running past the monster, then getting back in front of it and quickly backstabbing - this works about half the time if you're good at it, maybe less. Once you get intimidation to a decent skill level you can kind of fear kite, but without JBoots or any kind of snaring weapon it would not be very productive.

How much different is intimidation compared to old school Instill Doubt? ID was damn near pointless in Live. Did not work in connection with Backstab and hardly ever worked.

Backstab and ID worked together on live, you just had to know which button to not push when. Here it's ok. It was severely overpowered for a long time, but got tuned down quite a bit recently.

Easy to joust mobs with a big heavy slow hitter, don't need to fear a mob to backstab it. (I backstab 3 out of 4 tries ) and haste is not even crucial to soloing until 50+
