Cwall has obviously played a lot of EQ but his time investment is legit when he says it is next to nothing. If I remember right he showed up to Steamfont with a noob gnome and got an AoN, then traded for his character. Not sure why Smedy would ever make that deal or how he got the name change but it happened.

I obviously don't know but I do believe him when he says the key was MQ. He is friends with a lot of people that farm a good amount.
