Monk Quest faction problem (headbands)

I'm a Freeport monk that has finished my sash and am now working on my headband quests. I have completed white, yellow and orange but apparently do not have the faction needed to get the red headband. Togahn Sorast (cons kindly) says I am not trusted enough yet. I thought just doing the previous quests was enough faction to complete them all?

I read that you can just hand the items in and it will work, but is this confirmed? Any monk that has done these before knows how annoying Phido is to get so I'd rather not lose the quest items. :\

I can confirm just handing in the quest items for the red headband does work, even if you are not able to get the quest from him. He conned kindly to me.

Will update for the purple once I finished it.

I was able to complete purple as well without him actually speaking to me about the headband quest.
