I'm sure you old timers know that Mayong was removed from classic not for any storyline cause or intention...but because of pathing/aggro issues that the company could not be bothered to fix. Apparently Mayong should not have, but often did aggro people hunting in the courtyard. Mayong would then train the entire castle to the zone line; slaughtering anyone in the way.
Having played 50 hours per week from July 99 to Aug 99, I've seen it all; but I've never seen Mayong in Mistmoore. What is a zone without end bosses? What would guk be without the Lord or King? Permafrost be without Vox; Naggy's lair without Naggy?
I vote that you wonderful, beautiful, genius, dedicated, risk-taking devs/proj-mgrs overcome the bugs that the company chose not to; and in so doing, put the boss back where he belongs; in his castle.

Makes sense, if a buncha elves and dwarfs were raiding my castle, I'd go put the smack down on them too. lol

he was on for two kills, then removed....but i do agree that mistmoore should have a end-boss just like any other dungeon type zone....thats why the priestess is in the throne room... :p

Mayong Mistmoore was one of the dumbest things ever implemented on P99.

I think you top him, but only you. :)
Mayong was killed more than twice, loot was only allowed to be kept twice.

A 12/22 Kunark era dagger.
I'm told it was given out at GM events back in the day.

No one refutes the reason Mayong was removed on live (laziness to fix the pathing/aggro issues). So we admit it was a bug that soe simply never fixed. He isn't supposed to be some super special gm event. He's supposed to be in his castle on a respawn cycle just like every other mob in the game.
/edit. That said, I have no idea what his loot table was originally supposed to be...Looks like Devs could get the opportunity to design some new loot! That sounds like fun.

Since Mayong Mistmoore was never killed on live, he was essentially custom content on a classic server. And he was changed half a dozen times, by the end he had rapid fire DT and Phara Dar AE (perma stun + huge dd). He conveniently reverted back to "doesn't do shit" mode for Transcendence to kill him, and immediately went back to rape mode when IB went to try. When IB almost had him down in rape mode, he mysteriously disappeared to never be seen again.

Reik, how would you know he was never killed on live? I suppose if you started eq in beta or something you would know more than I in this regard. By the time I got to Mistmoore (probably September '99) he was not in live; but I can't speak to before that. I do remember reading posts back then about why he was removed (pathing / aggro issues).

Dear Noobs, (if you don't consider yerself a noob, ya shouldn't be offended)
If anyone here was in beta; it musta been at the end of beta. Mayong was originally a spawn in MM. He belongs in his castle and was taken out only because the company couldn't fix his aggro-through-walls bugs. It is fking gay that he's some lame ass GM event that mere dozens have seen (out of millions of EQ players).
OO they even added lore post-mortum...uh yeah Mistmoore is like...not concerned with mortals...he's like...struggling for power in some alternate dimension...so he abandoned his castle....ya it has nuthing to do with the aggro and pathing issues that we didn't seem capable of fixing in beta... he's part of this really cool storyline that we'll tell you all about in seven years...cuz we planTHAT far ahead.
Are there any other NPCs in the game; that have a lair; that are meant to be killed only as part of a GM event?

It may sound trite, but....
Working as intended.
