Who trolls a list thread?

That's not what "trolling" means.

Also, anyone who thinks FF7 is one of the best RPG's deserves to be ridiculed.

oh goddddd here it comes. Please moderators just put this thread in R&F immediately.

and yes your response is the epitome of a "troll" remark.

X says "opinion"
Y says "you're wrong"

Y is a troll - it's an opinion

Also, anyone who thinks FF7 is one of the best RPG's deserves to be ridiculed.

I personally was never a fan of the Playstation era Final Fantasy games because they felt way too linear and where just bloated with cutscenes. (I did however love the old 8-bit and 16-bit ones. I also enjoy the Tactics series, not as an RPG of course, but just in general)

I'm too lazy to think of 5 better RPGs for the PS2 from 95-05 but here is a pretty good list to go by is somebody else wants to give it a whirl:

http://www.listal.com/list/rpg-world-ps2-edition

In any case, you are no less correct for liking FF7 than I am for not liking it. This is just an opinion poll after all. :D
Lighten up peeps.

Alright, so it's slow at work and I looked through the list I posted.

Some stand out games that I enjoyed include:

Summoner 1 and 2 (highly underrated and often overlooked RPG. I can't recommend this series enough for so many reasons)

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (Fallout can do no wrong)

Bard's Tale (hilarious game)

Dark Cloud 1 and 2 (no where near the best but it was a lot of fun)

Dragon Quest VIII.

For christs sake, what the fuck else could I have meant by "Name 5 better RPG's for PS2 dated between 1995-2005"

Was PS2 out in 1995? No.
Do you know what I mean? Yes.

What's wrong with you people!

I mentioned Oblivion - Morrowind.. same thing to me, yah I know there's been a couple.

And the SSI games? :)

I STILL HAVE THOSE. I'm a horrid pack-rat, I never sell, trade, or toss out games.
Hell, I still have the manual for most of those old SSI games I have. It's all buried in a box in the basement.

Anyone remember the Scott Adams games for old Commodore? Those were the first I tried.. Yeah, 'Mission Impossible' would definitely qualify as a 'RPG'. (no, not the Dilbert guy - more like the grandmaster of old RPG stuff - might have well been the first or very close)

http://www.msadams.com/

I emailed him - he'll email back too! lol
You can download it for PC, there's a 'port' to play them.. Old text based RPG's, hehe

When I first got an Atari2600, I played games like a mo-fo too. Never did stop. Never stopped begging dad for a real 'computer' too - got a VIC20, we lived in the country, a mouse got in the Keyboard.. well computer and severed all the wires from the Keyboard to the system board - it was my first computer repair and I was successful.

Sold it at a yard sale much later :( - wish I hadn't, but I bought a VIC20 off eBay a while ago for nostalgia. It's funny on a HD TV.

I don't really consider EverQuest or Diablo (1 or 2) great RPGs, though they are great games. A great RPG has to really engage me with characters, plot, and to a lesser extent atmosphere, which EQ doesn't really do because you don't really get much lore just doing the occasional quest (though I do like the gods and some of the races, and it definitely does a good job with atmosphere), and Diablo (1, at least) has good atmosphere but its lore is kind of meh and not presented in a very appealing way. So as games they might rank higher than some of these, but as RPGs, the following are my favorites (in rough order):

FFVII
Chrono Trigger
Fallout 2
TES: Morrowind
Earthbound
A lot of other FFs
EQ
WoW
Diablo 1, 2
EVO
Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones

Probably some others that I missed. RPGs are generally the kind of games I play then leave alone for a few years then play again so I can reexperience the story and whatnot.

Ultima Online and Everquest. MMO's pretty much had me on lock down and swayed me away from console gaming tbh.

This game if fun though:

I never played any of the spin offs but I would think the game-play is similar.

EverQuest pulled me away from the console scene. But I have recently been getting back into it, playing Resident Evil series on ePSXemulator, and downloaded an RPG pack with about 30 games in it.

I laughed when I saw some people list games that I thought were rare. Lunar silver star story, tactics ogre, wild arms, etc.

I have a really hard time picking favorites when it comes to games, because when I get into them it doesn't matter what type of game it is I'll devote a ton of time to playing it through multiple times. So instead of playing a lot of games for a little, I just play a few games a lot.

There are some that me and some good friends from my childhood were really into, such as Wild Arms, FF Anthology, and especially Breath of Fire 3.

Tactics Ogre is rare indeed! I guess / Kind of.

I think it was produced in limited quantity. I rented at Blockbuster back in the day, if I knew it was "rare" I would of stolen it / never returned it. After it left BB shelves I looked for it at various Game Stops a few years later. They used to sell copies of them for like $50, IF you get to the store in time to snatch it. Had one guy tell me a fellow employee swipes shit like that when it comes in... Mother fucker...

They're going for $75 - $120 on ebay now.
Still don't have my own copy... but than again I don't has any consoles anymore either :(

Not a lot of Sega love around here. I am glad to see Lunar, Shining Force and Phantasy Star getting a mention at least!

I'm taking this to a new level of dork, prepare thyself. These are games I've played, so I know there are omissions.

By system and era:

Sega Master System:
1. Miracle Warriors (holds more nostalgia for me for its time than PS)
2. Phantasy Star
3. Zillion (kind of a stretch, but RPGish for the period, fun game)

NES:
1. Zelda

Sega Genesis:
1. Phantasy Star IV
2. Shining Force 1
3. Phantasy Star II
4. Might and Magic 2
5. Shining Force 2
6. Shining in the Darkness
7. Sword of Vermillion
8. Phantasy Star III

SNES
1. Earthbound
2. Final Fantasy 3 (US)
3. Chrono Trigger
4. Super Mario RPG

Sega CD:
1. Lunar: Eternal Blue
2. Lunar: The Silver Star
3. Snatcher (Adventure more than RPG, but basically belongs)
4. Willie Beamish (Adventure game too, but awesome)
5. Popful Mail
6. Shining Force CD
7. Vai
8. Rise of the Dragon (Adventure)
9. AD&D: Eye of the Beholder
10. Heimdall

Turbo Duo:
1. Cosmic Fantasy 2
2. Ys: Book I & II
3. Dragon Slayer

Sega Saturn:
1. Shining Force Trilogy (Japanese versions, to this day a big FUCK YOU to the Sega localization department - not even a port of the whole trilogy to a handheld system?)
2. Shining the Holy Ark
3. Dragon Force
4. Grandia (JP)
5. Albert Odyssey
6. Dark Savior
7. Magic Knight RayEarth
8. Shining Wisdom
9. Panzer Dragoon Saga

PlayStation:
1. Final Fantasy 7
2. Xenogears
3. Alundra
4. Wild Arms
5. Grandia
6. Suikoden I/II
7. Final Fantasy 9
8. Chrono Cross
9. FF Tactics
10. Final Fantasy 8

Dreamcast:
1. Skies of Arkadia
2. Grandia II

...sometime around here EQ was born and my console list stops.

PC - Normal RPG
1. Arx Fatalis
2. Baldur's Gate 2
3. IceWind Dale 2
4. Fallout I/II
5. Gothic I/II

MMORPG:
I've played them all, but only these for anything longer than a month or two.
1. EQ
2. Vanguard
3. Shadowbane (I had a lot of fun early on in this game, Confessor spec'd heal instead of summon was halariously faceroll overpowered and for some reason, no one seemed to figure it out for awhile)
4. Guild Wars
5. WoW
6. EVE
