Barbarbian Shaman?

I really want to play a Shaman, class doesn't matter too much to me, but if it's viable I would like to play a barbarian due to the looks and halas nostalgia.

What are the negatives to playing a Barbarian Shaman?

Positives? What other races are considered good Shaman races?

Cons:
No regen
Smallest of large races
No stun immunity

Pros:
Faction
Ridiculous good looks
Can wear plate
Is a large race without the cumbersome size that a troll or ogre have (have never needed a shrink pot on mine)

if I had the choice to reroll I would do troll or ogre. The difference is not huge but those extra stats are nice.

And before anyone chimes in about Velious gear maxes stats etc... Every piece devoted to one stat or a group of stats takes from another.

Barbarians can wear most medium and large armour, which opens up a few options (especially as they can wear some plate, unlike iksar).

They have almost acceptable charisma which means you don't have to roleplay a complete douchebag, and it may even help with the charm animal line (though I'm not sure on the mechanics of if this works or not).

Read through those, looks like Troll might be a better choice.. don't mind the look of trolls. Ogres on the other hand just look plan awful.

They can! Only iksar cannot wear plate.

Barbs get to wear Jarsath and you get a nice melee hammer (get to Karnors ASAP and beg for drops). Good faction is worthless, but you don't have a harsh racial penalty like Iksar/Ogre/Troll.

incorrect. means you can lvl to 20 in faydark(kaladim) in a matter of days*. Also makes it easier to lvl in hhk. (22-34)

troll/iksar are nice for regen, i went barbarian for looks. By the time i hit 50 or so i was wishing i made an ogre for looks.

You can take a barby up to ~lvl51 fairly quickly. Which is good enough lvls to farm reasonable pp solo.
(IF you have friends/gui you can go do howl stones or hole crawls at that lvl.)

Once you have a haste item and maybe regen bp, you can twink a `proper` shm race. SHould be able to solo it fast to ~40, and rejoin your friends in kunark etc.....if they will carry you for 11 lvls.

by that time you might realise that iksar necro are better option anyway :)
