My husband started a half elf in gfay so we could play together. The problem is, all quest rewards from cb belts or bone chips only give small armor. What is the best way to get armor to fit him as we don't have money for banded yet. Is there a noobie quest I am missing that rewards larger armor? Should we go to Freeport and check the quests out there? If possible it would be nice to stay in gfay a bit and level before travelling.

The rawhide armor dropped by the stronger orcs in Crushbone (legionaire, emissary, ect.) drop raw hide armor for large races.

He's probably going to be limited to cloth or raw hide until he can afford Banded mail (assume he's a class that can use it).

There are tons of people who'd be happy to give a full, free set of banded. I'm one of them.
Send me a PM if you'd like that.

Seriously? I could really use a set of Banded for my Rogue. Unfortunately I am kind of stuck out here in Qeynos area for the moment until a friend and I can level up. I will try and message you in game if this is possible.

Yes, he can wear banded, he is a Paladin.
Thanks for the replies. I wasn't aware that the higher mobs in crushbone dropped leather! They still con red for me so will wait a bit to avoid a mauling of a lifetime :D
I thought I had remembered something about bronze armor and unrest but it has been so long ago. We will definitely visit that zone as it is quite fun minus the hag squad.
I will send you a pm, Messianic. Thanks!

Heya
Mountain lions in Steam font will drop medium quality ruined skin you can tailor those into medium sized tattered armor. These mobs are about level 7.
just another option of medium sized characters.

Oh thanks Buellen! I didn't know cat skins dropped in Steamfont. I was thinking about making tattered armor the other day then remembered wolf pelts make only small, so I'll gather some of these. He ended up finding some fairly expensive leather armor on the city vendors and bought a few pieces last night. I'm going to hunt up some cat skins today and work on my tailoring. Thanks :)

Hit your low to mid teens and then go head off to Lesser Faydark and hit up the sisters camp. They always drop bronze weapons and pretty frequently also drop some decent gems for that level. If you take the time to level up between 12 to around 16ish there you can expect to pocket around 1,000pp which is a great kickstart for a low character.

Yeeaaaahhhhh....I may have left that tiny little itsy bitsy part out.
Thankfully it's super easy to check for. Generally that level range in Lfay is only there for one reason and it's Sisters camp. It's also nice that people at that level aren't usually /anon.

Great news. AC has barely any noticeable affect as a stat. Especially at low levels. It's nice to not be naked, but in reality it just doesn't matter much.
Also, if you really don't want to be naked your best bet is to use the economy. Sell the CB belts/pads and bone chip stacks to other players . . . make money . . . buy armor. If you sell enough belts and bone chips you can even buy special stat gear.

if you end up traveling.
Bandits and Raiders now can drop bronze weapon(human female male in leather ) and can drop bandit sashes which when turned give decent XP and Even more BRONZE weapons.
WEst karana: 9 different bandits camp. Even more single and double spawns through out the zone.
North Karana : Raiders along rivers as a ways down from the stone bridge to south katana. these drop same as bandits but have slightly higher chance at sashes from my own personal experience.
South Karana: Raiders along rivers edge if you head west from the bridge along the water edge.
loot same raiders in north katana.

I would just sneak to Castle Mistmoore and spam /ooc about needing gear. The stuff drops all the time there. Same like has been said about Unrest. Stuff is WAY too heavy to loot much unless you are Twinked from hell Ogre Warrior with 8 Tink Bags. :p

Thanks for the suggestions. I made some patchwork armor the other day using puma skins which I found the area to be really good for xp and collecting silks and bone chips to sell in EC later. (Likely after I get the bind spell) Messianic was very kind and hooked him up with some banded. (Thank you again :)
We will definitely visit Castle Mistmoore, that is a really fun zone :)

There is a second bandit camp in Lfay.

Yup and it's generally not worth the headache. Not only do those bandits hardly ever drop bronze but when they do it's usually daggers. You throw a wandering brownie that's most likely KOS into the mix and it makes for a piss poor mid-teen experience.

Just a thought for you, consider banded over bronze. Half elfs don't have a ton of strength and you won't really notice the ac difference until you are able to upgrade anyway.
