It used to be much more powerful when melee dmg wasn't capped

Because it no longer drops.

I wonder what kind of damage was done at low levels with this + jumpy robe.

If you have the Tolapumj's Robe which is 36% Haste and the Rod of Annihilation you are a total killing machine. Scary damage for a Caster weapon wise.

It does not get any better. You can pretend like you are a Rogue DPS wise. Fun stuff. :D

If by pretend you mean do 20-30 dps then you're right.

With this rod you will put out the melee equivalent of 2 rangers.

Well I guess I did sort of over emphasize what they can do DPS wise. :D

But I still think it is pretty uber to SORT of be a Melee on a Caster. :) At a VERY steep cost plat wise mind you.

It's fun for a little bit if you're a chanter/mage/necro on boss mobs, because you can do somewhat some sort of DPS since you can't land a nuke; Think I hit for like max 180 without many strength buffs. I got bored after a while though. It's not that great bc the glamour wears off quickly.

yea all of this is what I thought. I was thinking there was swarmable sized exploit you could do if you comob'd it with a specific mob or buff or something... but it sounds like what I thought.

Steep price for a novelty! haha

however, melee caster with a full set of golden efreeti armor, pretty boss.

you could solo lvl 5-8 mobs as a lvl 1
my rl friend did 1-28 with a rod in 3 hours

nothing about this weapon suggests a lvl 1 cloth wearer could solo lvl 5-8 mobs. 20 dmg cap negates the high top end, and slow speed make this not all that good at super low lvls...

I used to PL people 1-20 in about 20 minutes. Curse you, exp cap. Now it's like 2 hours :P

RoA makes it very easy to monk PL a caster without them having to use mana. It also hits very hard against skellies in HS, and any pet class can do significant dmg using it + pet. It had it's heyday during the first few months of Kunark when you could string 4-5 max dmg hits in a row. When you are capped at 255 strength that's over 250 dmg a pop.

Lvl 60s fighting relevant npcs should mostly miss. Weapons and offense skill caps are pretty low for int casters

They do. But there's quite a large difference between a mage randomly throwing an RoA in his primary slot and swinging it and a level 60 enchanter with tola robe and strength gear and VoG and bedlam and werewolf swinging an RoA... let alone someone who has avatar also.

I don't have one, but may try to get one some day, because I think it'd be fun to fear kite on a necro with one.

Also, it's kinda funny when a certain enchanter says I can hammer off them then they beat the crap out of me before I proc.

Id like to see you stream that Tecmos.. But is it seriously a good strat? or is it just for goofing off?

When/where would it be usefull? pvp?

Having a Orc Pick on here 3 years ago was USEFUL. In the beginning here you could be Bruce Lee on any class. You newer guys missed out on all the fun since about 200 nerfs later now. Not counting double XP days, spells that lasted for like 10 minutes, etc. etc. Ahh, it was "Classic".:p

It's something extra. It's almost never necessary, but it can be handy, and it's almost always fun.

Next time I do a stream, I'll group in seb and use RoA with all my normal chanter duties. It's a respectable boost to the things the most powerful class in the game can already do :)
