New player necro questions

Hey peeps just had some questions here, new player starting EQ again used to play in Tallon Zek lightyears ago. Anyways! Are necros still viable in pvp and solo gaming? I've made an ikky necro and remembered that Kunark was a good place to level up in early games from back then. Also I completely forgot and enjoying how much more brutal it is with the learning curves and no maps it is with EQ than these soft new games out there. How does one farm for money early level cause spells seem more expensive now than they were back then, maybe that's just me =p.

Necro is great for this server, if you want to play one, play one. I am playing one and having a blast, it's what I played on Vallon Zek and it feels very similar to classic Necro.

That being said, post 50 you're going to get fucked up in pvp. Make sure you get a duo partner or something because a melee is going to maul you. Splurt is going to get dispelled. Jobaber going to get ignored or even worse, feared into mobs. Very classic, oh well.

Having played a necro for almost a year here, I can tell you with confidence, they simply do not last.

I have seen dozens of necros come and go, often quitting or rerolling.

So here is the advice to make it;

As a necro you are the second best farmer. Charming is absolutely op, get a buddy caster/priest or two and do zones like kaesora, lguk, City of mist and howling stones.

In that time you will smash exp and get good loot for yourself, twinks and friends.

You will not enjoy pvp. Your nukes cost more mana and take longer to cast. Your dots are only useful in group pvp but you often go oom quickly and get focused early.

In group pvp where training is unlikely to occur the best thing to do is pull up a pet for sustained dps. For spells da, dots, a lifetap and shadow step. Use call of bones as it is the same illusion as aon form.

Solo pvp can vary, against casters with low pr you will want to spam poison bolt and ebolt, because of the knock back component. You will want to lifetap dot as well.

Against melee, expect to get raped 1v1 if they carry pumice. Even with shadow step, you need to work so hard to wear so someone down only to get destroyed in a few seconds of melee contact.

6 1/2 hours of soothing rhythm is what that is. Used to grind SC2 while stoned for a transcending level of play. Pras Stoned Masters.

1) EoT doesn't quad on red.
2) EoT isn't immune to fear and is easily CC'ed.
3) Lifetaps only heal for 66% of base spell damage.
4) Lifetaps don't heal at all if they are cast into a rune.
5) All DoTs can be removed with one click of a shaman potion or pumice

So, I'd love to hear how a necro defeats a runed wizard equipped with pots and pumice.

But seriously, this server is different to every other server including classic.

Melee hit way more often than they should and interrupt with straight up melee more than they should.

Most melee 55+ are rocking full pumice and cure disease/poison pots. Unless you decide to use life tap as dps, you will end up oom before you kill your opponent and will lose out in a dps race since it doesn't heal for the full amount that it should.

Velious saw some improvements such as stacking lower level dots, but as far as I can remember, dispells used to hit random buff slots and sometimes didn't dispell dots the first try (almost like dispell counters), so buff stacking never helped.

Trains aren't legal bro. This isn't sullon zek.

Necros can pull of shadowstep and hiding in outdoor group pvp but wizards are still 2-3x more effective at killing, however necros have more survivability.

Indoors a necro is as good as dead, way to squishy than they should be.

Level 22 and enjoying it so far haven't met any pvp in Kunark yet so can't say much on that topic, the community seems tight here at lower levels. Spells are a bitch cause it's a fortune but thankfully I don't seem to need much gear to survive pve so that's nice. Incase anyone was wondering haha :p.
