RL friend is interested in rolling a cleric on Red. I would most likely reroll from a necro to enchanter for ease of lvling.
What exactly can he expect out of pvp from the cleric class. Any preferable races (I think he was planning on going HE for starting stats).
Thx infoz

Expect to cast heals during combat. That is all.

Stuns? Smites? Survivability? Small group? 1v1?

Oh yeah. You heal people then rez them when you fail. For maximum effect do not level past 55.

If you die 1v1 as a cleric you're doing something wrong. They are very survivable. Stuns will rarely land unless its on a fully debuffed/dispelled target and aren't worth using in most situations. You will heal, heal again and then heal more after that - honestly. If you're doing anything but healing you're letting your squad down.

They use to be semi OK nuking people down wizard style if you could waste your opponents mana/use attrition, strafe properly.
Otherwise they are not that great and necros/shams will give you a hard time.
They are very good vs wizards and enchanters.
Vs any sort of melee they are at a severe disadvantage especially in tight quarters.
It really is better to heal in any situation where your not solo or duoing and have the jump, it's going to be a quick kill.

Races? Does it matter or is there some racial I'm not remember that sets certain races apart?

Dark Elves and Halflings get Hide, a cleric's only chance of self-invis outside of potions / clickies.
Halflings level slightly quicker, but with the xp mod that is a joke.
Innoruuk worshipping clerics (DE / Human) get a snare necklace.

dark elves can do a quest for an engulfing darkness amulet and can hide I think. Dwarves can do the roll and have good stats also.

How useful is hide? Don't most people run around with see invis at all times? Also what kind of resistance does the snare neck see? I assume its resist pretty often/useless once people start stacking any kind of mr?

U ain't never gonna use snare neck. I have it but it's completely useless

Seems like it would be useful for a fear kiting duo with backstabbing charmed pet at the very least.

It is. Did this with a shaman friend on blue with the same neck.

Fear kiting with a rogue gets way easier with snare neck. Also if your group sucks and has no real snare, there you go.

Snare takes like 5 seconds to cast and lasts 3 seconds
I have 2, 1 on a shaman and 1 on a cleric. Stopped using on shaman before I hit lvl 30 and never use on cleric.

i dont claim to be a pve expert but wouldnt it be more efficient to let the charmed pet get beat up while the cleric afks? break charm at low hp, kill both and enjoy double the exp for half the effort?

You have 2 racial options IMO.
Human, worship innoruk
The power game min max. You can use the paineel quested items as well as the darkness neck from neriak
Gnome
Getting as small as possible for pvp is huge. Stats are good.
Both can wear PD and vulak robes wich are BIS for their era

Not that youre interested in levelling quickly but...
Keeping pet alive:
Beguile: 120m over 15 mobs = 9m per kill.
Fear: 40-70m per kill.
Tash: 20m per kill.
Under 100m/kill and ultra fast.
Killing pet for xp:
Beguile: 120 per charm over 2 kills = 60m/per kill.
Tash: 20m per kill.
Nuke: 50m/kill.
Over 100m/kill and much slower due to no bs.
Rogue pets do ultimate damage from behind so if you commit to doing it you have to stick with it.

Cleric ench duo will be awsome at pve but will only be good at surviving in pvp. Ench basically only good for dispel and tash. Charmed pets are a liability in pvp. Every ench spell checks mr and everyone stacks mr.
Both classes are great support in larger group pvp settings though.
