We are aware of the problem, and hoping to put out a fix soon.
For right now, OOC is basically functioning like it was before the patch. A few zones are unable to globally communicate (notably, Cabilis east :( )
Please try to keep OOC clean while we fix the problem. Happy to see a bunch of new faces around today - and we haven't even started the events/advertising!

this, the ignore function works just fine.
While there are still people using ooc as a public forum for their personal disputes, it has shown a remarkable improvement overall in reducing the stupid arguments. I don't think anything will ever stop people from making public spectacles of themselves. Someone will always want attention, praise, conflict or anything else that can affect how others think of them.
I know I do not speak in ooc often, if at all, but I do use it constantly as a way of finding those who need help. I've made spells for dozens and dozens of people (mostly necros) and almost every one of them I found because they were asking about Words or Spells in ooc. I send them a tell and usually wind up hooking them up with every research spell, or almost every one, that they will need in the future.
I know others use it in much the same way and losing the ability to keep in touch with those needing assistance will have a detrimental effect that is impossible to accurately measure.
I truly and genuinely enjoy helping people, and being able to do it is what I like most about this server. Others must feel the same way because I have met and talked to people they have helped, especially in the last couple weeks.
If it weren't for the existence of global ooc I know a good number of people that would have quit long ago because no one would have helped them or even known they needed it. I am not guessing at that either, as many of them have outright told me that they would have quit if not for my help.
I can only imagine how many players have stayed because of the kindness and generosity of others. Probably not as many as have quit because of the toxic bitchfights in ooc, but it is enough to at least give serious consideration to what might be lost without global ooc or some way to talk to people outside your current zone.
With the toxic conversations/arguments reducing in volume, especially compared to 6 months to a year ago, the Pros and Cons of the global system are much closer to being balanced and I hope that is examined thoroughly before the bug is fixed.
I know this post is likely to be ignored or completely disregarded because screaming and tantrums are more noticable than quiet sincerity, but please don't assume silence means indifference or that we do not care about anything other than ourselves.
Only a fraction of the population reads the forums and even less actually want to deal with forum trolls and repetitive childish exchanges that dominate something like half of all the topics, maybe more.
TL;DR: Please give consideration to those who have used ooc to benefit the server. Some way for those needing a hand to find those willing to offer one would be highly beneficial to the server. We cannot help one another if we have no way to communicate ingame. PVP can exist regardless, but compassion requires words.

Logged in to post the same thing. I hope it doesnt get fixed for a long time.
Finding my alts groups there, advertising ports on my porter for a low pop server that needs this if it isnt going to allowed to dual box porters.
Let it thrive for a while

I agree. As a new recruit to red the ability to find groups in a small server is amazing. I just ignore those that I don't want to hear.

This. I logged my friend's wizard in this morning to port a newbie who was stuck in Toxx for whatever reason. I've plenty of times had the same done for me when I was trying to catch a group on the other side of the world.
/o has also been the way to find xp groups. Earlier today there were 6 people online between levels 40-50. We were able to form up and xp for an hour. Would not have happened otherwise.
With the lower pop, and Velious coming out soon(tm) not using global will further distance new players with vets. Sure it can get out of hand sometimes, but if you don't have /o filtered into a spam or secondary chat window you aren't doing yourself any favors.
Everyone who has played here has benefited from global /o at one point or another, or been able to accomplish something they otherwise wouldn't have been able to.

Too much of a workload IMO for GM resources that are probably stretched thin already.
Id patch solution that was proposed often, one post in OOC every 5 mins. That would also solve the garbage back and forth trash talk we see often. This is why we cant have nice things etc

As a new player to the server I also really enjoy how the OOC is setup right now. Id throw my vote in to so leave as is!

Yea I like the "limited ooc" idea. 1 ooc per 5 mins or whatever. And just better policing. I've taken screenshots and reported ooc before. Not as good as a live GM but whatev. I hope the guy got muted/suspended for awhile.
Global ooc really does help the new players the most. The ones who need ports, groups, and who don't have guilds to help them.
if you dumbasses didnt mess with ooc in the first place you wouldnt have issues.
Good job trying to implement some retarded idea and it not working

I thought this was done on purpose and liked the idea.
I am a new player and like the fact that ooc is server wide with the little players there are.

Presently there are no populous zones to just crap around and do nothing in, because people can just go to /ooc and be connected.
With city link, city zones might be less of a ghost town which will be fun for newbs, and newbs will usually be within or near cities, and will have access to a broader /ooc system than more well traveled players.
I think it is an amazing, well thought out compromise, otherwise I say we go full classic.

Serverwide ooc currently works fine. The random QQ's about server politics are few and far between and people quickly ask them to take it to tells.
