Am I the only one who didn't know you could click the hotkey for a spell to mem it to a gem rather than click on the gem you want to mem it to?

*mind blown*

Nope, first I've heard of it.

Doubt I'll do it though, been clicking on gems for 14 years.

After playing a melee class for 9 years, this is new and exciting information to use while on my caster! Especially because I suck at soloing, and die often...

Open Spell book
Click on spell in book -- (This places the spell on your cursor)
Press ALT + 1 -- (This memorizes the spell in slot 1)

^ Saves you time moving your cursor between spell book and spell bar. Not all that fancy on this server but when you are boxing 4-5 and die, it was glorious for getting your toons set again.

Especially handy if you are trying to switch spells between melee hits. Thank you.

At some point during 2010~ ish I started switching to ALT Casting cause I found it let me heal people faster and freed up my hotbutton bar.

I actually found out that you could memorize spells in this way on the Mac server, where the mouse functions much slower than it does here and I was usually boxing 3-4~ toons, so wiping was tedious having remem 24 different spells + self buffs, not always all on the first page etc.

Yes it saves you loads of time if you are trying to mem them in combat.
