New server in future?

Hello fellow forum questers. While my computer is in the shop I'm stuck here pondering and coming up with stupid topics to discuss. I have seen people ask if a new server will come post velious and every variation of that question. I'm pretty sure nothing is in the works. I'm more curious what fellow players would do if the option arose.
Say post velious release by some arbitrary number of months the option came out to play on a server that followed true timeline because everything was already worked out bug wise and ready to go. Would you make a toon there? Would you try to found a competitive guild to claim server firsts and to join in on the progression? I for one would love to play on a fresh server, though losing all my shiny items I camped might be difficult. Maybe i would roll a warrior because there would be no expectation on his gear. What are your thoughts?
Remember, this is just a fun discussion, save the trolling and hate for RnF.

Seriously someone asks this like every other week. Yes it's a little frustrating to be on a server where other people are higher level and have cooler toys than you. No, the GMs are not going to spin up a new server over it.

Just enjoy the server we have, and next time you may want to try reading through the countless existing threads (and polls!) on the topic before starting yet another.

P.S. If you are still stuck on a fresh server, you do have the PvP teams server to look forward to.

I think your misunderstanding my feelings/intentions. I love this server and am so grateful to have discovered a home post eqmac destruction. I also have no issue playing catch up etc etc. the only reason I mention it is because I certainly came too late to compete in meaningful firsts, have not been there on expansion day since kunark originally released and just yeah, thought a progression server on true timeline might be fun. Def did not mean to ruffle any feathers.
(And soooo jealous I came too late to get a guise) lol

Lol. The fact is I'm retreading posts and forum questing like mad cuz my comp has been in shop since Monday... Which has felt like fucking ages. This server has actually been a prolific experience, it has been a very long time since I really started out fresh. On eq Mac I had friends who geared me up. It's been cool questing my cleric armor, getting aegis if life, paw of opollo, testament of vanear. Shit has made my bond with my stubby dwarven cleric. Hoping to pick up comp tomorrow fingers fucking crossed I need a pixel fix.

Wow, there's only a single snarky (and not even direcly insulting) post per page; by this forum's standards that's incredibly tame. All the rest were just people informing you that you're the umpteenth person to try and start this discussion.

Now don't get me wrong, I agree this forum in general could use a bit more civility ... but that's because of the full-on attacks you see in other threads; this one doesn't even compare to those. If you're upset by it ... well you're going to need thicker skin if you want to start threads here.

i agree with your point in regards to this thread, but as far as that guy at the party? i think hes a real life hero. well, as long as he isnt bringing up these points to just make his. sometimes people only ask about things so that they can voice their opinion.

i would lvoe to be at a party where people are having a mature, informational conversation about religion/politics. but all it ever ends up being is a bunch of people yelling "SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOOOOTTSS"

Damn can't also quote next guys post.. Lol to both. I've been here a couple months generally like the community. Been a godsend with eq Mac going. Also, IMO, some from alkabor might send me hate mail for this, but I think p99 is a far better experience. Real groups and the old old content is actually relevant. Plus no mgb's to help you solo mobs ten levels higher than you. Still excited to run into trakanon again at some point, it's been far too long.

A) spend awhile lurking here first to learn the community's etiquette, or
B) search for previous threads before starting your own

you won't get legit frustration from people. You'll still get trolls: this community is open to all. But just don't feed them, and recognize them for what they are, and they don't have to ruin your day.

You can. Either:
A) quote one, copy the code it produces, go back, quote another, and paste the first quote in, or
B) just copy/paste the text you want to quote and use the quote icon (the speech box) to format it.

It's been tried before, someone tried to jump the gun on Rogean and release a """""Velious ready""""" (lol) server after getting banned here.

Needless to say his beta was a joke, and the amount of bugs and problems on launch night ranged from the XP rate being so slow it would take about 200 bard mail quests to hit level 2, to having non-classic mobs (added in later expansions) all over the place, non-classic loot, terrible forums (always important to have good forums ;)), and a GM/dev who got very emotionally invested when anyone criticized the state of that circus server.

Threads got deleted, nobody was allowed to give constructive feedback, so the trolls came out and made it worse... there was a clear split between the P99 red players and the EQ live players lol.

TL;DR - its been attempted, it didn't end well. He took his ball and went home... epic it certainly wasn't.

And even then, I'm not so sure I'd play on a New Blue. Probably, but it wouldn't feel right. If the Devs pulled the plug once, they could again, and it's a bad precedent to set.

The chicken little doom and gloom and drama that surrounds this topic everytime it comes up never ceases to amaze. But, then, we are gamers and that's just what we do, I guess.

One of the goals of this project, as I understand it, is to recreate classic era EQ as well as an accurate patch and expansion timeline. Classic era EQ has been recreated, with velious still pending, of course. But due to the unavoidable work-in-progress nature of the project we have never had an accurate timeline. Classic, for example, wasn't remotely classic because of mechanics and features that were still in the game and hadn't been nerfed or restored to classic. Kunark was never out for years before velious, etc etc.

So both sides of this constant debate just need to chill. Velious isn't here yet and even when it is there will still be plenty to tweak and fix. It will take time so dont expect a new server anytime soon even once it's out. On the other hand, once velious is finished, don't be so ridiculous as to think there will never be another server, either. We have the pops to support two blue servers and have for years. Lots of people will start and return for a new server also, because lots of people, myself included, really love fresh server starts. Besides, they did all this work restoring the game, it's just silly to think they won't apply al that work to a new server at some point. They've said from the beginning that it was a possibility and it makes perfect sense for them to do so, considering how non-classic the current server has been, particularly pre kunark.

They've also said that after velious there is the possibility of custom end game content. Not something I'm crazy about, personally, but duly noted.

So, all of that taken into consideration, what I would like to see is two servers....The one we have now, I'll call it the Perma Server, and a new fresh one I'll call the Timeline Server. The Perma Server stays as it is and that is where the custom content gets added. The Timeline Server starts fresh, day one classic, then runs thru the entire patch and expansion timeline up to what would have been the start of Luclin. Or that plus the sleeper being woken. Some milestone like that. Then the Timeline Server gets merged with the Perma Server, wiped, and starts the timeline over. Rinse, repeat.

This way there is something for everyone. For those who don't want to start over there's no need to worry. For those that do, they can. For those who missed the start of p99, the new server, or any other part of the timeline they particularly enjoy, the possibility of being there for it next time will perpetually be available to them. A win win for everybody.
