Been at Grimrot for 6 hours, only PHs. Got the camp from a Gnome who had also seen 2 PHs before I took over. If luck be a lady, she's a damn Ogre with gas and horrible facial acne. Seriously, is the Aegis worth the time it could potentially take for someone who's luck is so bad, he's lost literally every roll he's made over the past 2 months?

altho i do <3 z
tbh, i wouldnt do it. solely because man fuck camping that shit.
Unless you have free time or feel like AFK camping it while doing house work or w/e, you would be better served xping or EC shuffling up to a Hiero cloak. Even more options are available with Velious.
However, you can kill the PH and pop over to the Groi Gutblade camp (20 min timer) and get some lionhide backpacks and rings of shadow while you do it.

Do it. It will always be a beneficial Item even if later it is used only for resists. It is my opinion that a person should do at least the signature type quests for their class and this is one of those.
Camp the area with your newb that is getting exp for the kills and log in your cleric/paladin to loot. Or plan ahead and do it with your paladin/cleric when they are proper level to get exp yourself.
MQ is also a possibility. I've MQ'd several pieces for guildmates as I've killed the mob in passing an open camp. Factioning up for it is not that bad either

This is good advice in general. Camping anything with low competition is infinitely more enjoyable if you're getting Xp for it. It's why I farmed Mina Glimmerwing for 5 levels on my Iksar necro. Made levels and got a bunch of red wood wands at the same time.

Well, I logged on this morning, knowing he would spawn @ 7:30 AM CDT. Got my scythe, so in for a penny, in for a pound, it looks like...=)

As somebody that has done it since the nerf I can honestly say I wouldn't do it again.

Low lvl, around lvl 10ish. You can get faction from them though. Grimrot will eat you though if you are low enough to get xp from the skeletons.

I know of 2 clerics who have spent pretty much a week solid there in the last 2 months. They both got multiple (6-10) live Grimrots, and had trouble with the dead version. On live, you could clearly control live/dead by time of day, but not here - its totally random.
I spent a few days there myself, but in the end, I decided to level. While a lvl 40 cleric camped it (who let me loot a rotting live Grimrot), I went from level 31 to 54. In the end I bought a MQ for the undead heart rather than camp it.
Your experience may vary, but this camp is really hard to justify at this time IMO.

So MQs on this quest do indeed work?

Yes, my Aegis was MQ'd within the last month. My scythe + the other person's heart.
You must both have the proper faction though I believe. If for some reason the other person doesn't have it, you can usually get it high enough in under 30min if you know what you're doing.

This cape is my most valued item besides Mana Stone & Guise of the Deceiver. It's well worth it, imho. Everything else I can replaced easily - not this.
Totally worth it.

holy shit I really despise you more now.
I camped this jerk for nearly a RL week on my paladin in 2010 only to see an undead Grimrot 4 times !!!!! ( 2 of which were during daytime hours ugh )
I threw in the towel, gave up, and cursed the ground he spawned on vowing never to return.
Flash forward to 2013 and there was 1 random time I was in SK doing Quilly with my Paladin and my tracker was like "GRIMROT".......low and behold it was also a dead one !!!! /shockedface
( I eventually got my Aegis thanks to Fingon who could only get live Grimrots to spawn but to this day the live version has never showed up with me sitting at the camp )

I had a friend spend probably 1-2 weeks trying to get Grimrot. Every time I logged on he would be there. I think it drove him to quitting because he never got the drop and I haven't seen him in a few weeks.
