Hey everyone! I played up until Ykesha back in high school. A week ago I felt the strange itch to get back into EQ and did some research on the official forums. I was sad to see much of what I loved about the original EverQuest was taken away. Luckily, I found a post that lead me here. I'm ready to go!

But wait..

Of course I gave up video games for Lent (TLDR: Religious thing, can't play until Easter..incredible timing) and I have to say it's proving to be pretty difficult to keep from double clicking the EQ icon. I mean..I found my old guidebooks and have been re-reading all of the awesome stories about Boomba the Big, Fuzzbeard, and the others to get my fix. So that's where I'm at.

Just a couple more weeks. Must...hold...out...

Must ... give .... in. Everquest is not a video game, it's real life (to some).

STAHP! Don't tempt me.

I must say it's been a long damn time since I've been this excited to play a video game. Vanguard, LOTRO, WoW; I've played all of them and though VG left an impression (especially the crafting system) none have close in terms of what EQ had. I've been keeping an eye on Pantheon as well and so far really like what I see. Here's hoping that works out.

Focus on painful exp loss and time lost on a corpse run. Might help you get to Easter. I gave up caffeine for lent, feel your pain =).

What class are you gonna make

If you can't EverQuest you might as well ForumQuest

I think giving up caffeine would be just as bad. I can't go without coffee especially with my 6 week old daughter. Good luck to you.

Haha, alright. One of my first race/class combos was a High Elf Magician so that's what I'm going with. I can't friggin wait to walk through Felwithe and Gfay again. That first bat wing....

I have a couple of friends that will be joining the server as well!

Mages are good but the pet agro will NOT be like you remember it. just a heads up :)

Also, if your pet does the majority of the damage, you get half exp!

And if your pet does all the damage, you get 10% of the exp!

^Yeah I was not a big fan of that change.

However in groups I think as long as one of the group members hits the mob then the pet takes no XP, so if you like playing your magician in groups (which I suggest you do since the population at all levels is pretty active and the community is very nice) then it won't be a problem.

I don't remember much of the actual gameplay in detail, just the wonder of walking through the zones and the adventures I had with the people I met. Which I guess isn't surprising since it's really what I loved about the game in the first place.

What do I need to know about the aggro, if you don't mind me asking?

NINJA EDIT: Yea I knew about the exp penalties. Greedy little guys.

Just pet agro growth is far under where most of us remember it being. Used to have to wait until mob was around 90% or 85% life before you opened fire (get it?) but on P99 you need to wait until 65% life before launching a nuke.

Is the Warrens still a good place to level or was it ever? One of my last memories was with my Wizard and my friend's Cleric killing Muglwump. And I'm pretty sure my Enchanter is still camped outside the Sarnak fortress in Lake of Ill Omen.

Why did I ever stop playing this game?

I don't think the Warrens exists..that came with Luclin didn't it??

Oh well.

Is there a more widely used UI or is the normal one generally used? I seem to remember more of the classic UI with the window. I'd love to use it and saw the thread where it was recreated, but my monitor only goes as low as 800x600 so I think that one is out.

Hey man welcome to p99! :) You should play both servers since you can at the same time. In downtime while you are lfg or medding or something you can switch tabs to red server and play there, or vice versa. Hope you enjoy it and have fun! I actually just rolled a character on the pvp server. Send me a pm if you are interested in starting up with me
