So I went to prison in September as stated here (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120198) and I got released yesterday for good behavior and house arrest for 90 days.

I was hoping Velious would come out, but there's a beta which is pretty cool I guess. Now, I'd like to share my experiences to help you potential first timers so you don't get violated physically and/or sexually.

- Medium security doesn't mean it's any safer than maximum security. You just get more rec time.
- Prison is all about respect and being tough. If you can't hold it together, you're going to get punked and viewed as a punk. Punks get beat, raped, or extorted and it doesn't end pretty.
- Within the first week, you will get a heart check and by heart check I mean someone is going to test you to see if you're a punk or not. If you decide not to be a punk (which you should else you will get violated for your whole term), expect to be in the hole for up to a week. Trust me, one week in the hole is much better than fearing for your sentence. I got my heart check during chow on my second day. Someone cut me in line and then when I confronted him, he asked what I was going to do about it. So I'll tell you what I did about it. I cracked him right in the jaw and knocked him out then proceeded to beat the living daylights out of his unconscious corpse until the PO's got to me. I was put in the hole for 2 weeks. Of course everyone watched and right then, right there I earned my respect. Noone's going to punk me.
- The hole sucks. It's solitary confinement with 1 hour rec time in a 10 by 10 fence outside on the yard. You do a lot of thinking, pushups, situps, reading to pass time by. There's also a lot of psycho's in there and it's hard to ever get peace and quiet.
- Once you get back to gen pop, take a job to pass time and get into a routine...it'll only help time go by faster.
- Make friends only with your race, but never trust anybody...ever
- Don't gamble. I've seen a person get hit with a tool for not paying his debts.

It was quite a life changing experience. If you're interested and want to know more I'll post some more tips and experiences.

Some good tips for sure. What was it like being in the hole for 2 weeks? It's not a dark/silent solitary confinement place is it? Do you get some light at least?

Yeah, sounds fishy to me, too.

Seems likely the OP turned snitch and that's what earned him the early release.

Maybe that IS good behavior, compared to the other inmates.

You ever see boxing? Maybe it was a sucker punch because he didn't see it coming, but one good shot to the jaw will make anyone drop down no matter how big they are.

How did you get released for good behavior if you beat the shit out of someone in your first couple of weeks?

The Warden and the CO's aren't stupid, they know the politics in the prison system. First offenses are usually a slap on the wrist, it's the trouble you get into after that will extend your sentence. I stayed busy by taking a job in the kitchen and didn't get into trouble since.

So you beat the shit out of some guy for some stupid reason and they let you out for good behavior?

How much more would I have to pay in taxes to keep inmates in prison even longer when they rape or assault other individuals? Something tells me it'd be worth it.

I have a good idea what'd happen to me. I'd be raped and beatne senseless. It's just the way I act, it ain't normal. Ever since I was a kid, I don't say s*** if someone tries to punk me. Happened to me all the time in school. The more you try not to get attention, the more you stand out. By my 3rd year in HS it quieted down and I started to come out of my shell kind of. But I know if that were in prison, it wouldn't be softball.

Don't wnat to think about it. School was kind of like a prison sometimes.

Glad the OP is out. I had a friend while growing up who never stayed out of court and jail. And guess what? He still can't stay out. He's like someone who never got the hang of things, like being law-abiding. And yet some of the blame is probably on his parents. They kind of sucked. Still, my parents did a lot to make sure I'd succeed, but ultimately, it was my own actions that got me where I am. Parents don't always count.

So ya things haven't been great for me. Me and him have our issues.

I really think if a person stays in prison long enough they'll lose their ability to live outside prison. I think you see the same phenomenon with people who stay at home too much. They get stuck there. The prison programs where they put them to work is supposed to resolve that, but I don't think it's always effective.

http://www.hrw.org - No Escape: Male Rape in U.S. Prisons... (http://www.hrw.org/reports/2001/prison/report.html)
The Scope of this Report
This report is limited in scope to male prisoner-on-prisoner sexual abuse in the United States. It does not cover women prisoners, nor does it cover the sexual abuse of male prisoners by their jailers. Human Rights Watch investigated the problem of custodial sexual misconduct in U.S. women's prisons in two previous reports and the issue has been a continuing focus of our U.S. advocacy efforts. (2) As to custodial sexual misconduct against male prisoners, we decided not to include that topic within the scope of this report even though some prisoners who claimed to have been subject to such abuse did contact us. An initial review of the topic convinced us that it involved myriad issues that were distinct from the topic at hand, which is complicated enough in itself.

OP i have a question. do you think that in your situation the "heart check" was when he jumped you in line or when he asked what you would do about it. for instance, had you not even acknowledged that he jumped you would you have been considered a bitch? i think i would assume he was just hungry.

i ask this cause tho i have issues with violence, i dont go around looking for fights; im the dude that doesnt rage out when he gets cut off in traffic. so far it has worked out for me, but im wondering if maybe i should switch up my mentality for when i go to prison.

OP's post deciphered:

So I went to prison(Detention) in September as stated here (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120198) and I got released yesterday(after school) for good behavior(listening to the teacher) and house arrest(Grounded) for 90 days.

I was hoping Velious would come out(after I was grounded), but there's a beta which is pretty cool I guess. Now, I'd like to share my experiences to help you potential first timers so you don't get violated physically and/or sexually.

- Medium security(Lunch detention) doesn't mean it's any safer than maximum security(after School Detention). You just get more rec time(homework time).
- Prison(detention) is all about respect and being tough. If you can't hold it together, you're going to get punked and viewed as a punk. Punks get beat(bullied), raped(teased), or extorted(lunch money stolen) and it doesn't end pretty.
- Within the first week(hour), you will get a heart check(attendence check) and by heart check I mean someone is going to test you to see if you're a punk(to see if you're there or not) or not. If you decide not to be a punk (and not show up)(which you should else you will get violated for your whole term)(a lot of detention that semester), expect to be in the hole(last desk alone in detention hall) for up to a week. Trust me, one week in the hole(alone in the back) is much better than fearing for your sentence. I got my heart check during chow(lunch in the cafeteria) on my second day. Someone cut me in line and then when I confronted him, he asked what I was going to do about it. So I'll tell you what I did about it. I cracked him right in the jaw(speed dialled my mom) and knocked him out(presented him with a summons to the principals office) then proceeded to beat the living daylights out of his unconscious corpse until the PO's got to me(then proceeded to slap him when he didnt respond to the summons). I was put in the hole for 2 weeks. Of course everyone watched and right then, right there I earned my respect. Noone's going to punk me(talk to me).

The rest is blah blah blah not worth my time, tales of a kid who watched too much shawshank/american history x/ and lots of televsion......

Prison is my retirement plan too... roof over my head, free meals, and free healthcare. Except for the constant buttraping (there's young inmates for them to pursue... I imagine they leave old retired dudes alone), seems like a pretty good deal.

When in a "captivity" type of environment, you are constantly being judged by your peers. Had he not acted the way he did, it would make everyone who saw the incident think he's weak, and can be taken advantage of. They live by their own laws of the jungle, and common sense and logic have no place in their world, only certain factors apply.

Truth is, whether people realize it or not - they are constantly being judged by others, and in a place you cannot leave like a prison or the military, you cannot afford to let people think you can't stand up for yourself.
