I would like to know which class would fit, I have no gold to twink, and I am looking for a class that I can level fast, I know Iksar have a exp penalty, but that may not be that big of a deal, but would I be better off going with a troll?

or

Would I better off just going with a halfling druid?

I would like a class that is self sufficient, I know if I went Iksar I would have to probably stay in kunurk for it to be fairly easy. I am not sure which would be better the isar sounds more fun, but it might be too difficult when broke and new to p1999 (not new to everquest).

I started out on the server as a halfling Druid to farm ports once I was the appropriate level.. It's been pretty helpful in gearing the toons I actually want to play.

Druid to gear the shaman. Just don't make the druid your long term main, they are only good for ports.

well i am looking for something I can level and enjoy too.... I have read and decided if i want to go iksar i should wait until velious... or roll troll....

I have considered magician too.... (any race with smarts and agnostic)

What about a bard?

Shaman is definitely way more fun!

Not to mention how awesome they are at actually farming plat. Plus they have a pet, which in and of itself, make Shaman way more fun. Like someone else said "Druids are only good for ports"

At the end of the day, both classes can do just fine with minimal gear, but the Shaman makes an awesome duo for almost any class, group or solo. Druid just doesn't have that going for them...you're going to spend most of your time quadding.

I started as an Iksar warrior & it is not an easy route. As others have told many previous posters..."Just play what YOU REALLY want to play". Welcome back to the game & may fortune smile upon you!

Also, Velious is in beta; anything you could possibly need for your Shaman will probably be out by the time you need it.

Play whatever class sounds the most fun to you. Stop trying to think about it from min/maxing stand point. You will eventually be able to get gear and you will be able to level whatever class you pick.

If you want to be able to easily solo, yes certain classes are going to be more suited towards it. Some of those classes are not as desirable in a group. This is everquest, you don't get to have your cake and eat it too in this game, so just pick whatever seems to most fun to you and run with it!

which classes are not desirable in a group?

I am with what another said about iksar and gear... I guess as I also said put gear aside which would be better for shaman troll or iksar?

I understand some solo and some cannot, but since I am new having the option helps. I do not plan to solo most of the time actually. I do want a class that is group friendly.

I am kinda looking for classes that can be independent when they want to be and are not as independent on gear other than enchanter. And also is useful in a group. :P

All classes will get in groups. Some are just less desirable than others, druids, wizards. To a smaller degree mages, and Necros. let me reiterate, you will get groups with any class.

Once again as I said earlier, you want to have your cake and eat it too, and that's not how it works in this game. No one gets to do everything on one character, there is VERY strong class distinction here. Everyone has already mentioned what classes would most likely suit you the best. Bard is another good option, they can solo well, and group pretty well.

You're already playing the character has the best all around soloing/grouping abilities, and that is the enchanter. Everyone wants you in group for crowd control/mana regen buffs. But you can also solo due to charm. Nothing else is going to match this for what you are asking. If you're worried about things being hard in the beginning, then you're going to have a hard time in this game, because ALL classes are hard in the beginning.

Nirtixx are you ever going to stop being a weirdo and actually play the game that was made 15 years ago?

Ogre ;p

If your class can be an Ogre then Ogre is always the best choice.
